I'm sure science fair volcanos weren't made for kids to go "ooo wow look so cool" like this work wasn't made for spare change but c'est la vie.

Imagain a world. Where we train birds like crows to clean up trash for food. We outsource that part to the birds. Nature literally cleaning itself up. Im positive crows could learn this easily and in fact we could even target specific trash. Like train the from straws and cups. They would pass that information along the entire country. This man has got something amazing.

@roz bi Well no. Because we just use slave labor or pay slave wages woth prisoners. They are the ones who end up doing the work thst otherwise doesn't get done. Such is picking up cans to recycle which homeless do the work. Put simply we pay next to nothing for next to nothing. In fact city's in the case of the homeless make it actively harder for them to exist. Such as removing places for them to sleep. Such as an overpass or a bench. Which removes any sort of benefit to the economy they could of had at all. From a socialist point of view and a capitalism one our current system makes no sense and training, resupply, and removal of the collected trash could add jobs to the economy. There's no reason not to try. Because while yes it does cost money it would provide a much bigger benefit to the economy and the environment.

You sir, just make the ecosystem better. Imagine these on large scale. The amount of bottlecaps that could be recycled. We wouldn't need robots, they cost money and need stupid amounts of effort as well as trial and error in order to program into becoming dedicated recycling drones. Even then, they still wouldn't have the unparallelled learning capacity of modern day organics. Birds? They can fly, they already have a natural attaction to shiny. They've got the learning capacity to crack nuts with cars, they're motivated by survival, they breed autonymously and lay several eggs at the same time, they migrate towards places with higher rates of survival which could be artificially altered with the addition of these boxes. Absolutely genius. Bravo.

I am sure they can be also trained to remove cigarette-stubs and so on. nothing more CO2 neutral than this. Well maybe it can end up totally differently and people might loose stuff like earrings, watches and other shiny stuff. In Vienna, Austria. We have a Cleaning team from the Government called MA 48. They do a great job. But i also realized when i worked at a food stand in a crowded area, that the pigeons there actually cleaning up all the dropped food from the people. And it never looked messed or dirty. SInce then i had a deep respect of Pidgeons and called them the Airforce 48. Yes, its also true they can become a plague and mess up monumental places. But still they do a job for us.

I have a question. So if they didn’t find any bottle caps after, say a week or something, will they lose the memory to do this?

I don't believe so, birds and most animals in general have a much better memory than we think. They might need a refresher though, maybe put a bottle cap next to it to remind them.

I see that the caps you provide are metallic only, no design on them. Have the birds started bringing in bottle caps from elsewhere yet?

At some point they must have tried any small circular object they could find. Birds are incredible.

Very cool. Makes me rethink the social behavior we have with scavenger animals such as raccoons or pigeons.

Excellent. I thought those were pet birds. But brilliant discovery. Hope to replicate it in my garden
