Your taste in cars says a lot about you. We collect, covet, and drive different cars for many different reasons, but we see all kinds of different themes in people’s tastes. Some people are one-marque wonders; others chase a great driving experience or even a colorful palette in their garage.
Perhaps what makes car-shows like Radwood so incredible is that they’re brand-agnostic celebrations that bring together car enthusiasts who would otherwise not meet one another. Where else would you find someone with a mint-condition Chevy Lumina with its original sales documents laminated and on display?
Derek went to Stanford to study why people like cars, but has car-ADHD in his own tastes. Or is it that he likes a variety of different experiences? Cars, after all, are a reflection of where they’re created - in geography and culture.
It’s easy to get stuck with one marque, because the barriers to expand can be daunting: you’ll need new expertise, new friends, new parts-suppliers, a new mechanic, or even new tools. But does that mean someone who drives a Datsun 240Z can’t be interested in a 1977 Rolls-Royce?
Nope. And she should buy it - It means she’ll make new friends and form a new support-group. Making new relationships and joining a new network means that she can pass on the joy of vintage British car ownership to others. And spreading joy - not viruses - is the meaning of life.
The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.
Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on KZbin alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile - and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with.
Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering - which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.

I wonder how you reacted to Cammisa's take on the 308, I wonder what attracts you to it. 280 is interesting, want a 260 myself, more of a 240 with a discount coupon. Charger is hot. As is M3 and GT350. The way I view it you could sell the GT350/308, get a 355 and have twice the headache with half the space and the 280 is the same kinda experience to me to the C4, decadent from different sides of the world; in a good way. Shoutout to the 1800.

I have watched these videos/played them in the backround and over the last 2-4 videos I e realized I haven’t hit the like button. You guys deserve all the support I can afford to give. There’s plenty of creators who I logically think deserve my support monetarily but you guys are the only ones who I want to support for reasons that go beyond reason. You both create content that really fuels and inspires my own interest in cars in a way that feels totally natural. Donut media is fun, savagegeese is precise and honest and committed to serving everyone and not just enthusiasts. But you guys are the only ones who can get me to watch an hour of your two chatting. and it’s so convoluted that I could never recap one of these to my friends but every time you open your exhaust valves you spit wisdom and knowledge and experience and passion and it’s Better than anything else in car media

The interesting thing about the sorts of people who are into terrible 70s and 80s cars, is they're some of the friendliest, most welcoming, inclusive car enthusiasts. I'm a member of a Facebook group for these cars because the people are good people, not because I'm into Chrysler Cordobas. In fact they've really increased my appreciation for cars like that, even if I'd still never choose to buy one.

Talking about the VW vs Honda. I believe its a Japan vs Germany thing. For example, I sold my E46 and got myself an IS300. I loved my E46 and didn't want to let it go but I never had a Japanese car and wanted to have that experience. Now I am confused. I like each one, for very different reasons. The BMW right mirror tilted down whenever you put it into reverse. Also, you could open or close the windows even after you removed the key, in case you forgot. The IS300 has the right noise...I really like NA 2Js. The M57 even though magnificent, had alot of peripheral issues. That damn Lexus just wont break down!! 180000 miles on the clock and no issues whatsoever. 2 years of BMW ownership and I had to change 2 diffs, coolant tank, rear shocks and more...and I drove them both like I stole them.
@victoralley708
@victoralley708 4 жыл бұрын
IS300 is a great car. Hard to find them now without a ton of mods or a million miles on the odo... Personally, I prefer cars that are very reliable and have lower operational costs.
@kanadezosGT
@kanadezosGT 4 жыл бұрын
@@victoralley708 Yes. Everytime I feel nostalgic about my e46 I remember all of the hours I spent under it. But that is another issue. The is300 feels a bit...soulless...I can't explain it. Don't get me wrong, I still look back at it every time I park and walk away (at least twice) Also it's a wagon... But is something to be said about cars that make you feel something...even if that something is frustration.

I love how lo production this show is - the other higher produced shows are also great, but it is fucking refreshing to hear people just talk, tangents and all. Re quality - sound is great. Don’t care if you fix the mic issue. My only request would be more photos of what y’all are talking about - so you talk about derek’s mx5 or miura or Jason’s lotus or scirocco show it, kinda like you did for some of the other cars. '80's and '90's VWs will literally drive you mad. They are so fun to drive, but you are always knowing that a mechanical issue is waiting to catch you off guard. When Jason mentioned the high idle, I immediately thought of the idle air valve. That bugger was making me crazy on my GTI. BTW- VW Digifant fuel injection may be the worst injection system ever fitted to a VW, or maybe even to any car.

I've owned 12 Datsun 620 model pickups. My first Datsun was a conversion 4x4, I've had 5 king cabs, my daily driver is my 78 king cab that I've been driving for 35 years, it's got a Buick V6/overdrive 2004r swapped into it that I did 20 years ago, it's my "daily" because it's a blast to drive! I've never owned another brand/model of Japanese car/truck except for my 2006 Toyota tacoma quad cab 4x4 that I bought new, drove it for 9 years and sold it back to Toyota cause I really didn't like it and they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. I've pretty much been a one-marque man when it comes to Japanese vehicles. As far as American cars go I've owned 3 Chevy's a 1972 and 73 Camaro, and a 68 1 ton truck. For mopars I've owned 3, a 1969 Coronet R/T, a 1970 Valiant, and a 1969 coronet 4 door. Datsun, Toyota, Chevy, and Dodge/plymouth is all I've ever owned. Motorcycles, I've owned the big 4, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda.

I've always been a car enthusiast but wasn't involved in any kind of car "scene" or community until my mid 20's and was only able to last 2 years at most in anything brand specific. It just gets so dull and I find the opinions in those groups to be very close minded and holier than thou. The only two types of events I enjoy anymore is Cars and Coffee and track days. You get all kinds of people in every type of car, and for the most part it's people that realize the point of being an enthusiast is loving something, not hating a barely different version of their own thing. Sadly that attitude is rare these days

That guy rding in Jason's always-needs-something 1980s VW sounds like me. I'm spoiled by being raised in a Honda family, where cars run in spite of maintenance, rather than because of it. I don't know that I could tolerate a vintage car and all of it's constant needs. Like they are saying, there's a huge learning curve when switching communities. Like I'm comfortable with my FR-S's rattles and squeaky clutch and probably dying throw-out bearing, but the smells and noises of Jason's VW would probably freak me out for a bit of time.

You both love the 240Z but for $25k, how does it compare to a 987.1 Cayman S or another much newer sportscar at the same price point?

Can we put Derek on the left and Jason on the right next episode? Their personalities would match left/right brain asymmetry better.

I can’t stand single minded car people, such as “Mopar or no car” crowd. I’m not saying you can’t have a preference or gravitate towards a particular brand, but you should appreciate them all. In the past couple months I traded my 17 mustang gt for a new 19 C7 and my wife just traded her 18 SXT plus challenger for a new 2020 LT1 Camaro. I am very diverse in the the cars I like or don’t like and don’t limit myself to experiencing only one kind. I feel you miss out on a lot when you do that.

LOL my uncle drives a 77 Rolls Royce. It's the car he and his partner take to go antiquing, or to go to gala events where they donate said things they get while antiquing to...causes.

I'm certain Derek has never bought - or even considered - a Strayan car. In the last coupla years the last of our car companies shut up (its selling) shop, having ended the actual manufacturing aspect back in 2017. Granted, our automotive highlights were few and far between - and mostly inspired by elements of the Seppo* industry, with some influence from England and Germany. Still, some interesting and distinctive creatures did evolve at times. In the 60s and 70s, Chrysler, Ford and Holden (GM) created some performance cars that _might_ hold some appeal. Later, in the noughties, a handful of reasonable performance sedans provided some amusement. 🤔 Now I think about it, Derek hasn't really missed much. 🙄

trying to decipher the taillight easter eggs on the Lotus t-shirt. outside-left: no idea inside-left and inside-right: frenchie or pug dogs? outside-right: looks like cesar romero's joker OR it's adam sandler ...i am probably WAY off on these. but i love the design of the shirt. the "T" in Lotus is very clever.
