My Amazon would have shredded that book into confetti in a matter of minutes and then run up my body to bite me in the face. She has been in the family for about 21 years, the last 14 years with me. We are obviously still a work in progress!
@period.92603 жыл бұрын
Yes, we lower the lights gradually (thank you dimmers!), put on ambient rain sounds, and chill vibes, and make sure not to crinkle any bags around the birds for an hour or so before nigh nigh time. A little bit of almond as a tiny snack and some head scritches also help put them in the mood for sleep also. Then they start to make those beak crunching noises, their eyes close, and they usually go sit on their highest perch in their enclosures without any screaming or fuss. It’s so sweet When we first got our first rescue bird we didn’t realize this is how you do it, and tried to shove him in the cage and expect him to just happily go in there. He would scream and freak out, jump back out and onto our shoulders. Then we ended up scraping him off our shoulders into the cage while my husband and I bickered about what eachother were doing wrong and just covering him, feeling terrible about it. Now we know we have a much much happier bird on our hands after not having a panic at bed time

@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 I blame all of the cute and funny viral videos of caiques people see on Tik Tok and KZbin of caiques stomping around and being adorable, so people get a caique from a breeder thinking their caique will start stomping around like the ones in the video, not realizing that there’s a lot more that goes into bird ownership than cute behavior that goes viral, and that you have to train them for months to get to the point where they can even be out and hanging around just stomping around the floor or your kitchen counter like in those videos. Then they get annoyed that their bird isn’t magically like the ones in the viral videos, and dump it at a shelter. Very sad.

With so many animals, they can reach that difficult hormonal stage and people will just dump them.
@period.92603 жыл бұрын
@@spiritmatter1553 oh that’s so true, and terrible hormonal bird behavior are something you don’t see a lot of on KZbin or TikTok in viral videos. Those don’t get shared by The Dodo. So when you get a bird you think it’s gonna be all fun and cute. But then spring hits or adolescence hits and it’s all screaming, biting, molting, brattiness, and you start to wonder “Am I just bad at being a bird owner? Maybe I shouldn’t own birds?” Not realizing that a lot of it is normal, and also a lot of it can be “fixed” with controlling daylight hours, diet, behavior, and just patience

most female cockatiels dont normally chirp or sing a lot like males do (not impossible, just unlikely), and if it's actual screaming, that's their contact call that they would normally use for their flock, so yeah they are screaming for attention whenever you leave

@jamssnana40843 жыл бұрын
I mean this in the nicest way possible, OK? If you can't afford the bird, what will happen when you need to bring the bird to the vet, which will easily be $200? And a good cage is another hundred, at least. Add fresh fruit and veggies, ridiculously expensive pellets, and a bunch of toys, and that 2 to 3 hundred you wanted to spend will have been a drop in the bucket. Just saying.
@6675rock3 жыл бұрын
Can anybody tell me what this means? We have been trying to be calm and give her treats, and play with her, but she still seems super scared!!: Ok, so I have an around a 6 month old Sun Conure. My other bird, pineapple who is a green cheek gets along very great with her. They preen, play, sleep together. (I don’t keep them in the same cage though, only on occasion. When we first got her, she wouldn’t even get out of the cage and was silent. She would eat small things, but not drink and bathe (intact the only time we have caught her bathing was like, 5 weeks ago.) Now, the SC is doing better, but he’s reliant on the GCC. He never lets anybody pet him/preen him unless it’s the GCC, and actively avoids it (like tilting his head and backing away) And he gets out of the cage now, but it takes 10 second runaround before he decides if he wants to step up or not. And also, whenever the GCC isn’t near him, he’ll fly to him or if he’s out of sight he’ll start SCREAMING! Can somebody please tell me what this means, I’m worried we aren’t being good enough bird parents :(

My rescue bfa and galah who I have worked so hard on the last several years while living in a house have both started to be extremely loud and needy again now that I moved out of my ex’s house into an apartment . They’re so noisy I’m on edge all the time and have to yell and do things like spray with water which I know only makes the issue worse but I can’t chance letting them scream for hours to “work it out” and get them back where they were before because I’ve already gotten several noise complaints . It’s the worst! The amazon literally screams for attention when I’m five feet from him in the kitchen! I have to wheel his gym Into the bathroom just to get a Darn “quiet” bath. It’s so frustrating . All that work ruined now because of unforeseen breakup circumstances :( I literally don’t know what to do bc everything I’ve tried isn’t working now in this new environment. It’s already been four months there and they won’t improve. They were even fine when we moved temporarily in with my parents before I got my lease. Because these birds so easily get hormonal & CRAZY CUTE, ppl encourage the birds’ antics like screaming, jumping around (so adorable) & running all over the place, the birds NEVER CALM DOWN. Seems like too many owners pet the birds’ backs & abdomens too. Then they give them toys like paper to shred, encouraging NESTING. I know this video is 2+ years old but Bird tricks should do an entire series on CALMING CAIQUES!
