She is a baby, white bellied caiques have black spots on their heads when they're babies and then loose them after the first moult (I have a caique, I'm not making this up hehe). Also the screaming sounds like the baby screams, mine just stopped doing that when she turned 6 months old or so and now she barely screams although she makes the most hilarious sounds 😂

I had a screaming conure that I "inherited" from a roommate. She was the loudest bird I've ever lived with and I got her to cool it the same way, ignoring her until she was quiet for a minute or two, then showing lots of affection and positive reinforcement. Stretched it out to 5 minutes before I acknowledged it, and after a month or two, she was the quietest bird I've ever lived with! She'd call to me softly when she woke up and only screamed when another conure in the same apartment building got going. She was getting on in age when I got her, had been passed from owner to owner until she came with me when I moved out. I had her for 5 years, really don't know how old she was. My little Peanut was such a joy, she gave me the bird bug, I've had at least one ever since. I've only had cockatiels for 30+ years (current ones are 12), seeing Widget makes me want another "big little" bird! I bet my two tiels would wonder how that weird looking tiel got so big! 😂

My 11 year old cockatiel Baby is very loving towards my conure Skittles, but Skittles is ALWAYS in his cage when Baby is out. Skittles is rambunctious and playful and LOVES to "wrassle", but he plays rough, including some vigorous play biting. He could easily hurt or even kill Baby unintentionally.

@@cyn4476 He's gorgeous on the INSIDE. He's the comparatively dull-colored dusky headed, but he's still my beautiful and super affectionate little boy. Squawks excitedly every day when he first sees me, loves to be petted and to cuddle, and would probably give me kisses for hours if I had the stamina. I couldn't ask for a sweeter little boy. And my cockatiel is just as sweet.

@@richardadams4928 That's pretty cool. My first cockatiel was very affectionate like that. He was my best friend! Widget screaming reminds me of dogs I’ve worked with that have separation anxiety. Where they will bark and cry and carry on until you give them that attention they think they need. It’s difficult to teach any animal with reinforced separation anxiety to “break” the bad habit and it can be so exhausting. I know it’s not their fault and they don’t know any better but I can’t imagine trying to help them out of that habit with an animal as intelligent as a parrot! I wish you the best in helping her out of that anxious mindset! She is such a sweet bird from what I can see in this video! I love watching and learning different training techniques and how they can even help other animal trainers to understand and work with their animal! You are truly an amazing person and your videos are so helpful and informative! ❤️(edit: also your children are so sweet with the birds it makes me cry! It reminds me so much of myself when I was little and raising chickens😭)

@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 I am aware that they can come with behavioural problems as two of my rescues did. But they deserve just as much love, training and respect as a bird bought from a breeder. Birds from breeders can still develop undesirable behaviours if raised incorrectly.

If that's how you really feel, that might be a good instinct, but know that people online fear-monger A LOOOOT. I remember when I was on dog forums some years back, and I had nearly convinced myself to never get a dog again, because the people there have such impossibly high standards, if you're anything less than perfect, you're a "terrible owner" - at least that's how they make you feel. And with parrots it's even worse, because they have this huge "they are terrible pets and should really all be in the wild"-image. Well they're not terrible pets or millions of people wouldn't own them, but they ARE high-maintenance.

@@rosiehawtrey oh lol, I didn’t realize that this was a snake. I thought it was a species of bird. I’ve heard of peoples birds getting eggbound from producing too many eggs, which is what I meant by the eggs being a problem. We had to give her back after 2 days because the screaming hurt my dog's ears so bad she tried to run away 3 times. Still feel bad about that, but it was our first bird ever so I know I can't be too mad at myself. If we got her now, I know it probably would've subsided through training and just time. Yay! Caiques are my favorite! I'm so excited to see another caique project bird. If I was ready for a bird, I would seriously consider Widget. She is amazing! I know the right bird will come into my life at the right time, but that is at least 3-4 years down the road. One thing I'm curious about: are her wings clipped? Is that why she has trouble flying, or have her muscles not been exercised? She seems very confident and brave, and very friendly.

You don't need 3 to 4 years to get a parrot if you can financially afford to buy one right now, caiques are my favorite parrots as well I have two of them which I bought within the last two months , I offered to take this caique as well but my comment was ignored so I removed it..

@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 It's not a financial reason. I can afford a bird, but I have a dog that would probably try to eat it, and I will be starting an intense two year college program next summer. So I want to wait until I am finished with that program and can give it the attention it needs, and my dog is either too old to care about a bird or passed on (he's 12 now).

My conure Skittles can EASILY outscream what we hear from Widget here. But when it gets annoying, I just remind myself that he's really expressing his affection and desire to spend time with me.

I was so exited to see a Caique video! I wish you kept one permanently in your flock lol. I have a 10 month old black headed and I love it when you post videos specifically about this species. Looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks for all you do
