My home airport, great to see it from a different perspective! Amazing how it has changed over the years. Thanks for posting!

Birmingham is my nearest airport so I love this! Thanks for pointing out the places of interest, I have lived in Warwickshire for many years but I have never heard of the former RAF site before. The runway 33 approach and departure is the direction I am more familiar with.

I used to watch BEA DC3's & Viscounts on this approach from my school playing field which can still be seen in Balsall Common, in the late 1950's / early 60's!

Great video of my local airport, if possible could I request you do a new video showing the instrumentation? Thanks :) I can even wave at you from the end of the runway if I know when you're landing!

Thanks for watching and for your support of the channel! I hope to be scheduled soon again to Birmingham. Then I - for sure - will try to record a new video with instrumentation and charts. It may take some time. Please stay tuned! Happy New Year!

I love watching your videos of take-offs, landing of different airports. I was just wondering will you be coming back to BHX to do a more up to date video. Its so much better seeing the captain and first officer with the cockpit view as well.

Super smooth landing - Liked the way we saw a plane take off whilst taxiing - by the pilot's and first officer's accents, could the airline be Lufthansa?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos4 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara, thanks for the feedbck and the question. Due to privacy reasons, I cannot release the name and the origin of the airline. I hope to be able to change this in the near future.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos2 жыл бұрын
Just to give you an update here, the airline is Eurowings. Eurowings belongs to Lufthansa group. So your guessing about the origin had been correct. All the best to you!

ahhh... i see they've done a lot of work at the end of the runway for us spotters to not have to sit at the side of the road... which was a cool thing to do back in the late 90s when i was younger... doing the whole "waynes world" thing, me and the missus used to sit on the bonnet of the car and let the planes go over :D
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and your very personal feedback! Some airports have really nice spotting locations. Years ago, I have been to a nice location in San Diego in California. There is a building with an upstairs parking lot underneath the very short final. I have been told that in between it is closed for the general public.

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos yea. At bhx back in the mid 90s, they had an observation deck on top of the terminals with the tower playing over the speakers. Then when I had a car as I say, I would sit there for hours across the Coventry road in the field (which is where that mound is now).

Runway 33 ? They only got one ?
@ApproachandDepartureVideosАй бұрын
They have one physical runway surface which we can use from both directions. So the same concrete/asphalt surface has a different name when using it from the opposite direction. The result is that they have runway 33 and runway 15. The names are generated by whatever the compass reads when we are at the runway threshold and point a compass to the end. If the compass shows 330 degrees, the runway would be named 33, if it shows 150 degrees, the name would be 15.

What if they take off backwards ?
@TrevorPoole-y7bАй бұрын
OR Two planes come into land. One gets assigned runway 33. The other runway 15. That might be interesting.

You can also land on runway 15. It is the same piece of asphalt or concrete. But then we come in from the other direction.
