NO COUNTRY needs their government to control their population. Governments have no place in 'limiting the size' of a population. The Philippines culture is self-correcting in terms of this problem (which isn't really a problem since in the long term population growth drives economic growth more than anything else). People in the west are being alarmist and getting Filipinos scared about overpopulation, but actually we have a lot to learn from Filipinos because our population isn't growing quickly enough.

Sex Education is usually a hopeless taboo in The Phillipines and only the well educated and enlightened few are prepared to use modern information and modern contraception. Good video Pea. I hope some people listen to you. I went through this with my filipina. I couldn’t get her to take the pill and it was due to religious beliefs. 4 kids later I got clipped. My wife always told my daughters the best birth control pill was an aspirin held firmly between the knees. I’m glad she didn’t practice that method.

I used the withdrawal method in high school. My son is 34. Education is key in the family. I have three children (2 boy, a girl) and was very open and honest about birth control for both. None of my kids have children yet. My youngest is 21. Plan you're family responsibly. great video!!!!

This is just an observation, I enjoy watching the pure honesty, love and carefree personalities of the Philippine culture. I don't want to see that change. It will over time and It as begun already with the cell phone being the most powerful information tool of the century. As the people become more educated, they will become more cynical of government, church and there own neighbors and anyone in authority. Then we will have what's happening in the USA.

I've been visiting the Philippines for many years now.. and have sadly seen the large number of unmarried and single mothers there.. the Catholic church has a lot to answer for this along with lack of education in schools.. it's heart breaking in many ways.. unable to provide food and schooling because everything costs money.. there i personally have chosen not to have children because I believe you should have a solid relationship before introducing a child. UNfortunately many servicemen who would go to the PI on leave or were stationed there had a very chauvinistic attitude about birth control. Their attitude was "If she gets pregnant, that's her problem." Personally I think if you aren't willing to take care of the baby you might create from your one night of fun, then you should do the right thing and wear a condom. Don't expect the girl to be on the Pill, heck she might just go off the pill just so she can have a baby and make the guy marry her.

Steve Foster : We went to visit an orphanage in Manila it’s one of the saddest days I’ve ever had in my life . The orphanage was full and overflowing with unwanted children . We all left the orphanage in tears .

I'm married to an Ecuadorian. Of course, Latin America and the Philippines have much in common historically and culturally because both were lands with indigenous people colonized by the Spanish. My wife went to a strict Catholic school and received virtually no sex education from her family or others. Once we became intimate she went on the pill. A few years later we decided we didn't want to have children and I got a vasectomy. Of course, it depends on the individual. But, based on this video, most Latinos do seem better educated on the subject and with fewer irrational concerns about taking birth control. This is especially true among the younger generation. Of course, the pill can have side effects. But the people in this video seem to have exaggerated worries about it causing birth defects based more on rumors rather than medical science. Pea I appreciate your effort to shine some light on this obviously controversial topic. I've watched most of your videos and love that you are a truth teller who says it like it is.

Are young people in your country better informed and more rational about this topic than older people? My wife was one of 14 children. But none of her siblings have more than three. Most Latinos still identify as Catholic. But the church no longer has as much influence as it used to when it comes to personal issues like birth control. So maybe that's one of the differences.

It's mostly a taboo subject because of the Catholic Church. In many majority-Catholic countries, sex and family planning education is limited to information approved by the Church. Such is their influence even today!

Excellent video again. I agree that an equitable solution should be found. Ive been in a church service here where the priest encouraged people to "be fruitful and multiply" In the middle of a pandemic. Really. Living in Las Pinas metro Manila I see children running around butt naked, dirty or wearing ripped raggedy clothes daily because the parent (s) cannot afford clothes or basic needs for them. I've seen and lived voluntarily in the slums here. I've watched these kids play in sewage water and their toys are pieces of junk from piles of trash. I've had to help a man bury his wife. The mother of his seven children. She was 29. Died of organ failure from starvation. They lived in a wood and tin shack in the middle of a city. She intentionally starved so her children could eat and survive. Seven children at 29? Yes, I'd say there is a social disconnect here concerning birth control. It's no place for any kid to grow up in without basic needs being met.

The fact that so many Filipinos are ignorant of the birth control facts is the Philippine government's failure to adequately educate its people (women and men and not just women). Birth control is so important to the future of the Philippines that the subject should be covered in school each year from ninth grade to graduation. The government clinics should address birth control use and provide oral and written information to every patient over 14 (two years before the age of consent). The government should act responsively and independently of Church doctrine but does not based on its failure to legalize divorce and abortion. You did a great job of covering this important subject. You are a true crewsader. Well done!

I control the birth control. A visit to the doctor, an outpatient procedure, ₱8k , and a week of discomfort. Now I'm free for the rest of my life. One of the best things was getting my test results that said Zero swimmers.

This topic needs to be addressed more and more. So much misinformation, learning in the streets. Birth control not used correctly. The men are not going to be responsible for unwanted pregnancies so it is up to the woman, to decide what to use. Look at the advanced countries of Northern Europe, such as Sweeden and Norway with a zero rate of population, the more educated the fewer children the couples have. Education is the key.

Good video P, I'm glad you are taking on all subjects and not just the easy ones. I'm a practising Catholic but not very happy with some of the conduct of the church in the Philippines. I did notice the tip toeing around the miss information campaign the church continue to conduct and I do understand why you would take the route you took. Unfortunately, I think that mountain will need to be conquer before Filipinos get honest information. I find my wife has so much incorrect information, it's mind-boggling sometimes. This is a touchy subject regardless of where you are. Religion plays a major role with people not using contraception. Misinformation is sad to see and just makes matters worse. I don't have any good answers but it appears attempts to educate are being made but fighting public perceptions be it right or wrong is very hard along with Religious and Cultural beliefs. This is a hard one and not an easy one to resolve. I only have 2 children I went and had a vasectomy after my wife thought she was pregnant with a 3rd child. I knew having more children would put a financial hard ship on the family. I love children and if we could of afforded it I would of had as many as possible but reality sets in and well you have to live within your means. Good luck educating people on this very important subject. Its so important you might want to do a follow up video.

The level and breath of misinformation and misunderstanding is simply amazing. It's obvious to an outsider how imbedded the influence of the church and social stigma has on the culture and society. What's also obvious (to this foreigner) is the need for real down to earth cultural education. Contraception should not be imposed from 'outside'; it should be a family decision. And certainly the community - government - needs to take a role in sex education.

It is to bad that so many people believe that pharmaceutical medications will cause damage to the person taking them, however, condoms also protect against dreaded STDs which can still be incurable. With the Pope saying the use of condoms for family planning is allowable I hope the use of condoms increases. When I was there back in the day condoms were not for sale at most places, I hope and pray that the attitude for the use of any birth control changes.

Good subject Pea. I agree with many others that the Catholic church is behind a lot of the attitude there when it comes to birth control. There are families over there such as my own where Nanay had 8 or 9 kids (one or two lost at birth) and her own children ended up having anywhere between 0 and 2. The one thing that amazed me though was the fact that my family over there took in a baby that wasn't their own and raised him about 16 years ago, and around 4 years ago took in another cute little guy to give a better life to. If you ever check my channel you'll see a picture or two of him. I call him my little buddy. ;)
