It's interesting to see how many president's birth state is different from the state they represent. This is the list as best I can tell: Jackson: born in SC, represented TN WH Harrison: born in VA, represented OH Polk: born in NC, represented TN Taylor: born in VA, represented KY* Lincoln: born in KY, represented IL A Johnson: born in NC, represented TN Grant: born in OH, represented IL* Arthur: born in VT, represented NY Cleveland: born in NJ, represented NY B Harrison: born in OH, represented IN Wilson: born in VA, represented NJ Coolidge: born in VT, represented MA Hoover: born in IA, represented CA* Eisenhower: born in TX, represented KS* Ford: born in NE, represented MO Reagan: born in IL, represented CA GHW Bush: born in MA, represented TX GW Bush: born in CT, represented TX Obama: born in HI, represented IL Biden: born in PA, represented DE This means that almost half of all presidents (20/45) were born in a state other than the one that they are most closely affiliated with and/or pursued politics in *Taylor, Grant, Hoover, and Eisenhower, along with Trump (NY) never actually held any elected position prior to becoming president, so the state they represent is a little less concrete than the others, who were all a representative/senator/governor/etc for their respective state.

Regarding people who ran and lost, we associate both Barry Goldwater and John McCain with Arizona, but neither was technically born in the state of Arizona. McCain was born in the American zone of the Panama Canal, while Goldwater was born in the TERRITORY of Arizona in 1909, three years before it was admitted as a state. Regarding some other also-rans, we associate Hubert Humphrey with Minnesota, but he was born in South Dakota. John Kerry represented Massachusetts in the senate for 28 years, but he was born in Colorado. Thomas Dewey, was a former governor of New York, like FDR, but unlike FDR, he was born in Michigan. Hillary Clinton was the First Lady of Arkansas, but was born in Chicago. Mitt Romney was a Massachusetts governor and is currently a Utah senator, but he, too, was born in Michigan (a state where his father was governor). Adlai Stevenson II was governor of Illinois, but born in Los Angeles. Al Gore was a Tennessee senator, but was born in Washington, DC., presumably because his father Albert Sr. (also later a Tennessee senator) was serving in congress as the time. Some runners-up who actually were born in the state we associate them with are George McGovern (South Dakota), Walter Mondale (Minnesota), Michael Dukakis (Massachusetts), and Bob Dole (Kansas)

It's interesting how many presidents were NOT born in the state we associate them with. Reagan was not born in California, neither of the Bushes were born in Texas, Ford was not born in Michigan, Biden was not born in Delaware. Obama was also not born in Illinois, but I think his birth place being Hawaii is better known, due to the "birth certificate" BS. It's interesting that, even into the 21st century, presidents born in western states are exceedingly rare. I guess this is because the eastern US is still heavily populated, whereas there are relatively few states west of the Mississippi with major cities.

Presidential death trivia: while several current or former presidents died in Washington DC, William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor were the only two who died within the White House. John Tyler died in Virginia when it was part of the Confederacy, so he technically is the only president who died outside the United States. Warren Harding came very close, having suffered a likely heart attack playing golf in Canada; he died several days later in San Francisco. Dwight Eisenhower was the first president to die in a hospital (JFK was pronounced dead in a hospital but almost certainly died in his limousine). Harry Truman, Richard Nixon and George H.W. Bush have since died in hospitals. Lyndon Johnson was born and died less than a mile apart, a record. His successor Richard Nixon holds the opposite record, having been born in California and died in New York.

It's not really known where Andrew Jackson was born. Jackson's exact birthplace is unclear. Jackson's father died at the age of 29 in a logging accident while clearing land in February 1767, three weeks before his son Andrew was born. Afterwards, Elizabeth and her three sons moved in with her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and James Crawford. Jackson later stated that he was born on the Crawford plantation, which is in Lancaster County, South Carolina, but second-hand evidence suggests that he might have been born at another uncle's home in North Carolina.
