The midpoint formula that you gave is a+((b-a)/2)=(a+b)/2.I don't know you prefer the former over the latter,could you please tell me why?

They are the same in fact. No preference

i agree that they are the same.if you peform the arithmetic you will notice tha a-a/2=a/2.so it is indeed the same thing

It's simply x=a+b/2

3 years late but a+((b-a)/2) is used since the a+b in the other method can lead to overflow (a and b are very large) if you are attempting to program this.

can the roots used have a negative sign? like for example, a = -1, b = 2 ?
