As a bi writer, I feel the "most people are kinda bisexual" thing so much. It makes me feel better to know that there's an audience for that.

OMG Yesss! If you have a link for your writing... Would be awesome. In the past 4 ish years, bi-poly me and my bi-mono ex partner wrote a whole series of books, and she would constantly get onto me for everyone being bi 🤣 She was like "Someone has to be straight or gay, someone has to be monogamous" And I tried so, so hard, but couldn't do it lol Story of my life lol

@@verilybitchie I love this video you named some interesting books . Have ever read " invisible life" and "any way the wind blows " which are both written by e.lynn Harris with bisexual men taking center stage ? And if so what are your thoughts on these two books that focus on male bisexuality? I read them both in my teens and I loved them.

Kushiel's Legacy (the first trilogy's the best one) by bi author Jacqueline Carey. The genre is historical fantasy and takes place in (an arguably low) fantasy France specifically (though the characters do travel). There's political intrigue, wars and magic. The sex positive religion practiced in the setting plays a huge role and the main character is a religious adept herself (which in the story is like being a holy sex worker basically). Almost everyone's bisexual including the protagonist of course (who also skews towards non-monogamy)

„The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet“ by Becky Chambers, her whole Wayfarers series really, it's full of bisexual, gay and lesbian characters, also poly characters. The author is either a lesbian or might be bi, it's not mentioned anywhere, but according to Becky Chambers website she „lives with her wife“. „Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl“ by Andrea Lawlor. The author is a lesbian (I think). The book is more like a trans shape shifting gay lesbian-extravaganza, technically not really labeled as „bi“ , but the main character falls in love (and has sex) with both men and women. Nonfictional: „Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World“, an anthology edited by Robyn Ochs and Sarah E. Rowley.

I read Fire Logic by Laurie Marks, first book in the Elemental Logic series - I don't know if the author is bi, but the world of the book feels very bi and feminist. It's a beautifully written fantasy series. In this world gender distinctions exist, but have little effect socially. One character is a very tough military leader who is pregnant in most of the book, then she has the baby, gives it to her male partner, and goes back to work. Gay, bi, and straight characters exist and are barely commented on. And it's not a utopia at all, but it's a world where extremely violent conflicts can find resolution. I'm looking forward to getting back to the rest of the series.

Thank you so much for all the Bi content!!! I'm lucky enough to have access to an academic research library, so I searched for "bisexuality" and found some interesting research titles (hopefully they're easily accessible beyond the academy's gatekeeping): The Journal of Bisexuality (in publication since 2001, I believe some articles are open access) Women and Bisexuality: A Global Perspective, edited by Serena Anderlini-d'Onofrio (2003) Bisexuality and Transgenderism: InterSEXions of the Others, edited by Jonathan Alexander and Karen Yescavage (2012; also available in the Journal of Bisexuality, Volume 3, Numbers 3/4, 2003) Bisexuality: Theories, Research, and Recommendations for the Invisible Sexuality, Joye D. Swan and Chani Habibi (2018) Bisexuality: Identities, Politics, and Theories, Surya Monro (2015) Bisexuality: The Psychology and Politics of an Invisible Minority, edited by Beth A. Firestein (1996)

Well now I want to read all of these!! Very late to the party here, but if you're still looking for bi books by bi authors, I can't recommend After the Revolution by Robert Evans enough. It's mature, graphic, and wonderfully alive and showing so many facets of humanity! He even narrated it as an audiobook, which I love! Robert Evans has mentioned he's bi on his podcast before, and the character Roland in the book? Easily my favorite bi character of all time.

Advice to read a book without knowing anything about it is actually really great. Love doing this. And the same can be applied to movies. No expectations, no disappointment. And you get just genuinely yours uninfluenced emotions. Just enjoy the story without thinking about what some critics said about it.

These all sound really good and most of them were new to me. Thank you! I wish I had some great recs of my own to give but haven't had much luck finding bi books, especially ones by bi authors, but I'l try my best to think of some... Against my expectations, I did very much enjoy 'Loki: Where Mischief Lies' by Mackenzi Lee, and I'm pretty sure she identifies as bi. This one might be too specifically catered to me as someone who attended Australian high school in the late '00s while having bisexual feelings but didn't even see it as a possibility to identify as bisexual because I didn't fit the stereotypes, but I have a soft spot for 'Pink' by Lili Wilkinson. It's fairly decent YA. I've definitely read worse. Not a bi author, as far as I know, but I remembered it being a refreshing part of 'Jonathan Unleashed' by Meg Rosoff when the main character has a crush on a co-worker whose gender he's not sure of and he just decides that he doesn't care. (For an author who has recently hinted at being TERF-lite, this was quite a shock to me as several of her books have characters who basically read as trans/nonbinary.) And while I'm here, I may as well shoutout my favourite early 20th century bi character, and by a gay author: my boy Alec Scudder from 'Maurice' by E.M. Forster.

What you said about how gays and lesbians (but also we bisexuals) view bisexual history?? And how we think bisexual history boils down to our contribution to gays and lesbians??? and how this way of thinking is rooted in a need to have bisexuals being valued by gays and lesbians???? and how the same thing happens with the trans community and its history????? i'm screaming. I always knew some parts of the way trans people (gays, lesbians and straight) were treated by cis gays and cis lesbians is intertwined with the way we bisexuals (cis and esp. trans) were treated by gays and lesbians... but this?? *mind blowing galaxy gif* I need this book asap.

12:30 YES! I feel like "Conversations with friends" isn't talked about enough. For me personally it helped me normalise not only bisexuality but also relationship anarchy... sort of, I mean it could be better explained but that's part of the point. You get to be there exploring the limits of secks and love alongside the characters whilst they figure out their relationships... Def helped me navigate my crush to someone who's gender fluid and polyamous

I’m just commenting before watching the video in case you don’t mention this author but VIVEK SHRAYA is my favourite bi author ❤️❤️ Her book She Of The Mountains is very bi. She is also trans 🏳️‍⚧️ Also James Baldwin has a lot of characters in his books (usually men) who are queer and it’s usually not specified if they are gay or bi - it’s quite fluid a lot of the time. Giovanni’s Room, Go Tell it on the Mountain and Another Country come to mind

Glad to hear that you recommend books where the characters aren't all "good" people! I believe that the best representation is, I guess, diverse representation? Not just in terms of surface level identity diversity, but also in the personality, motivations, social position, etc of the characters. We should be able to have minority characters who are both good and bad, characters who fight oppression, characters who oppress, characters who are loyal, characters who are treasonous, characters who are emotionally healthy, characters who are emotionally damaged. Because then we aren't perpetuating or creating single stereotypes of the group. Also it's just more interesting? I don't want to read about good people all the time. It's not that relatable :v Like can we get FLAWS up in here??

i think that at this moment in time it's totally fair to come for young adult, because it's written for immature readers (which in-and-of-itself is fine) but our current pop-lit culture is one OBSESSED with YA literature because it's marketable. as a result the already widely accessible YA genre gets further accentuated, to the extent that for a lot of people, they arent aging and maturing out of YA. im not saying people should ever /stop/ reading YA, because it's not that theyre bad books. but because they are intended for immature readers, they're not very.... complex. so people aren't getting past a 10th grade reading comprehension level, without challenging themselves beyond the complexity of john green and sarah j maas.

I can't even read books really, I'm just watching this to remind myself that there are other bi folks out there making shit. Is helpful knowing there are more creators like me, especially working in genre fiction. I want more Incidental Queerness in Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

My favourite bisexual book is “the girls I’ve been” by Tess Sharpe. It is a YA novel but I think it’s worth reading
