I remember learning about Frida in middle school and I thought she was awesome! I would read books about her, watch documentaries about her and I studied her paintings. My family thought it was weird that I admired her so much because she was “So Ugly” to them and the fact that she was bisexual made my homophobic dad constantly say stuff like “If you end up liking girls because of her, I’m kicking you out” (I’m straight) The person who questioned it the most was my second older sister. We shared a room so she was tired of seeing me reading books about Frida and she even ripped off a print that I had bought of her painting “The Two Fridas” off the wall next to my bed. She said she hated seeing her “Ugly” face and that no boys would date me if I tried to look like her. Fast forward to now, Frida all of a sudden exploded in popularity and now people are treating her as a mascot rather than a human. My sister is no different. All of a sudden she loves Frida and even bought herself some clothes from the Frida collection that Shein had (I hated it so much)

Biphobia is lame. Like seriously, why do we have to complicate things by pulling these bigotries out of our bums? Things are already a mess for the LGBTs.

America and uk are in totally different places regarding queer rights and visibility. Especially since Trump and the rise of the radical right. Torchwood is simply impossible in the US.

I was concerned when I read your title, but you smashed this. It IS a story about love between 2 men, but not sexual love. There's also a strong challenge to the English class system here.

I'm a cis straight man, so I'd love to hear you say more about the Trans story in the IT Crowd. Long before we knew the truth about Linehans views, I watched this and thought it was very sympathetic to the trans character and portrays Renholm as a total bigot. But you say it's cringe. Can you say more about why?

For me the best way to stop consumerism isn't to criticise the people who provide supply, but criticise the people who are on the demand side, don't you think?
@thedubstepaddict3675
@thedubstepaddict3675 Күн бұрын
No, because demand is artificially created.
@mariarusek1851
@mariarusek1851 3 сағат бұрын
@@thedubstepaddict3675 Almost always in a free economy supply is created by demand, not the other way around. That's why people who develop any product must consider who would buy it. If there are buyers for these plastic HP stuff there will be someone who sells it. If the author of the video wanted to stop excessive consumerism, it would be more productive to redirect his energy from senseless complaining about people who make money legally to trying to change the law in some smart way or educating children, e.g. about utility theory

Earthsea is so much darker and haunting in its tone than HP. TBH I don't think they stand up to deep comparison. As great literature, Le Guin kicks Rowling's butt.

The part about having to buy the signature weapon or tool, nail on the head, imagine if Altaïr or Ezio had to buy their hidden blades to get inducted into the Assassin Brotherhood, or some of the other examples like the Jedi, it just doesn't make sense

My copy of The Once and Future King had Rowling saying Arthur was 'Harry's spiritual ancestor' which was so arrogant and pathetic I covered it up. And 'Gedo Senki' is just _awful_ and it's a blight on Ghibli's body of work.

When getting to last points in the video, of America being the place to go for LGBTQ media, it made me think of the genre of BL and how widespread this piece of media actually is. Thailand seems to be a major source of BL as it is becoming a more popular term. Then we got Japan, where the term "fujoshi" first came to be to describe (particularly) girls who like BL/yaoi. China also plays a part through the book genre of danmei (you could say also a bit through series before the censorship and even the ones now that are portrayed as bromance when the original material is danmei). And yes, technically, Netflix is an American streaming service but Heartstopper is not American, it's British. Call Me By Your Name and Young Royals are also not American yet still have received a lot of attention. I understand that this genre is still also used as a means to make money as businesses realize that it is getting more popular but the entertainment industry is an industry after all. In order for us to get any type of media, we have to be able to give back (by money, views, promotions). Like going to a restaurant, you go to get food and pay as a means to give back. The waiters and chefs could also, like those in the Hollywood, could care less of minorities or what you actually want. This is not to say that being heartless and accepting the indifference from those in higher status is answer to all this, I just think that this way of doing business is not cruel but understandable in fact. A place where there is a lot of queer content though is GagaOOLala. Variety of themes and place of origin.

I would argue people are more interested in a story with characters who are bisexual, than a story solely based on bisexuality. And as a bisexual, I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I’m more interested in an interesting story with queer themes than a story based upon queer identity. There’s nothing wrong with a story like that, but I also think part of the reason people don’t watch showed like “the bisexual” is because the premise seems one-note. Is there any intrigue other than “person struggles with bisexuality”? I think that has something to do with it

This video is great by the way, I don’t mean to come across as a hater lol I would say though, heartstopper and the bisexual are just…very different shows, with very different viewers who want very different things out of their media. Heartstopper has a lot of “moral moments” because it’s predominantly for younger viewers, and I don’t think sexuality and homophobia should be “debated” in shows like that

I began watching dr who with Christopher ecco and sropped after matt smith.nit in purpose i just was busy doing other things.. i watched a few capaldi episodes and thought he was great but thought the series had lost its identity once they made the dr a woman lol. I mean how long can you go on for before you're making a different show? Its the paradox of perpetual tv shows that eventually you habe done all the stories and villains and characters to death and yu either dredge up old characters for nostalgia orvyou innovate. So while i applaud them trying new stuff and am sure the show is still popular today, they'll never top the likes of chris, the brilliant david tennant and matt smith. Such brilliant actors all with their own spin on the iconic hero

I once read an article published in 2018 written about Lady Cassandra O'Brien which I believe made her character a better representation. To summarize, the article stated that she should not be looked at as a representation for transgender people, but rather a representation of the process of transition. The article stated that she is representation for all the ugly parts such as the surgeries, the need for perfection, etc. She is still a product of her time and always will be, but many people underappreciate her. The fact that her being trans was originally just brushed off when mentioned in the show, I believe, was a good choice. It made it inconsequential. As a member of the lgbt community myself, having people not care about this minor aspect of me which has no major impact on me as a person is more than I could wish for, so having something that represents the statement "It's not a big deal" is important, at least for people like me. I am more than just this tiny aspect of me and people need to see that lgbt people are more than just that one letter.
