Hannah was nervous to film this one. It’s deeply personal, a little painful, and very important. Thank you for your time, for supporting us, and for helping spread the word that bisexuality is valid, and not temporary!
Bisexual erasure or bisexual invisibility is the tendency to ignore, remove, falsify, or reexplain evidence of bisexuality in history, academia, the news media, and other primary sources. In its most extreme form, bisexual erasure can include the belief that bisexuality itself does not exist.

I'd like to admit that I'm not perfect regarding my perspective on bisexuality. I agree that bisexuality is a 100% valid sexuality. I find myself having to check myself whenever my bisexual girlfriend mentions that a guy was hitting on her. My girlfriend chose me, a woman, and that's the end of the conversation. It was a bit sad when I heard her say that she lashed out at a man one day who was hitting on her and told him she was gay to get him to back off. She isn't gay, but she didn't want to explain bisexuality nor give him any chance to continue to keep asking her out.

hey bball33g. I've been in similar situations with my straight & bisexual friends, telling a guy whose aggressively flirting with them their gay. Usually it's the safest way to get the guy to back off. It doesn't bother me because I know the reasoning behind it.

I am a Bi (and Autistic) man, and it's been interesting realizing my Bisexuality and then going into the KZbin rabbit hole of Bisexuality during the present situation of the Corona-Virus. Also a conlang that I'm developing (although Online School has gotten in the way) has language for Bisexuality very simply Bi treating it as the default however I still need to build the vocabulary of said conlang (Vocab generation isn't the easiest of funnest part of Conlanging).

Videos like this are truly life saving. I’ve had a really rough time throughout my 20s trying to understand my bisexuality. Bi-erasure has contributed massively to this and it’s such an important topic to discuss. Bi people actually make up over 50% of the LGBTQ+ community and yet we’re often we’re erased, ignored and overlooked. Thank you so much for making bisexuality part of the conversation and raising awareness of bi-erasure 💙 💜 💖

I guess people are either scared or confused because they don't understand how someone can be attracted to both gender, i've seen that happened with some friends. I've been asked if it was bothering me and if they were "normal" (to which i always answer "oh yes ! more than you") or if i will still be friends with them, of course i will. Why losing time judging others when you can embrace it and learn from it. To be honest I've been called stupid and weird for acting that way and everytime i answered with a big smile and say "thank you so much for the compliment ", their answers was, "you're a lost cause", "with that mindset you won't get far in life", and many insults i won't put in here but i've always stayed nice and answered "thanks, you to" My grandfather taught me that the secret to have a good, happy and fullfilling life was to be compassionate, a fighter, understanding, curious, honest, respectful, confident, accepting, to never judge without knowing the other, to never give up on anyone or anything, to always expect the unexpected, that diversity is important in any aspects of your life. What i've said probably doesn't makes a lot of sense, never been good at expressing my feelings on paper.

Being an engineer by trade I have a knack for being overly technical... I feel the need to define things, I can’t understand why this has to be a focus. By definition - Human sexuality is the way people experience and express themselves sexually. This involves biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behaviors. Because it is a broad term, which has varied with historical contexts over time, it lacks a precise definition. Regardless of who you love or how you love/ how you identify or if you choose not to label yourself or others - your feelings are valid, you are important and we are all human - can’t love being love and the amazing profoundness of it, be enough for us all? Just accept that like anything else we are each our own version and that includes “how we love”. Hannah or any bi person is no less defined than the rest of us because as the definition says “it lacks a precise meaning”. Great Video - and Hannah regardless of peoples lack of understanding of Bisexuality doesn’t make you’re feelings less valid or important, and people who care about you won’t judge how you self identify or choose not to identify.

I cant agree to something to make it easier for someone else to understand. I feel like we shouldn’t have to explain anything, it’s 2020 and people should already know the difference and know that it’s real. It’s taken me a long time to figure out who I am. But I know a few bisexuals that I have been friends with for a long time.. And they still haven't came out cause they are scared.. It hurts me like it does you how Bisexuals are not portrayed in the media.. I would love to see the new Disney princess to be bisexual or lesbian.. It would make me so proud.. We seriously as a community should be loud and proud of who we are, and not hide it.. I am so proud of myself now for being who I am.. When I was little I was short, fat and shy.. I didn't think anyone wanted to be my friend.. But now I got all kinds of friends I never thought I would have.. I also want tell you two how I am proud of you all for being you and tell your story with all of us.. You two are amazing ladies and so awesome.. Can't wait for the next video.. My girlfriend identifies as bisexual, I identify has a lesbian. I love the fact that she is open minded and can find the beauty is anyone regardless of sex. Personally I don’t want to have sex with a dick, I don’t want to see one, touch one, smell one, play with one. Majority of my friends are straight guys, guys are dope, nothing like watching some ball or hanging with my boys I just don’t want a guy in my bed. I correct people all the time when we are out and someone makes a comment about us being such a great lesbian couple. People are strange and make comments all the tine I don’t know if it’s trying to show how cool with “us” or what. The amount of complete strangers who tell me their neighbor is gay while waiting in line is unreal. My girl is amazing, well read, sexy, sarcastic, fun, supportive and bisexual we are 7 years strong I can genuinely say I fall more in love with her everyday. She is the best part.

I'm bisexual and I live in small homophobic country. For about a year I've been hanging out with gay people and totally stopped. I was so disappointed, because they are asking straight people for tolerance and understanding, while they are being judgemental towards bisexuals. It is not fair, but as you grow older, it doesn't bother you so much. I didn't find the love of my life yet, but I absolutely don't care is it going to be a man or a woman. I just want it to happen, already! Hi I'm bi :) Thanks so much for you video! (doing the bi handshake) An interesting prejudice I come across often has to do with the fact that I'm also in a non-monogamous relationship. People usually assume that I am non-monogamous because I am bisexual, when in fact those two traits and identities are completely separate. I knew I was bi long before I knew I did not want to be in monogamous relationships. And so sometimes I don't like telling people that i'm bisexual because it somehow devalues my identity as polyamorous and because it reenforces the stereotype of the "reckless" bisexual that simply doesn't want to "settle". I also very much agree that I'd like to see more bisexuals in the media and everwhere! I still remember when it occurred to me for the first time that bi is even an option, my mind was blown by the fact that I did not have to stop liking men if I wanted to like women :D One of my favourite (presumably) bi chracters are Casey from Atypical and Adam from Sex Education.

There’s also a lot of sexism to be discussed. Specifically, there are straight men who know a woman is with another woman, and whether she is bisexual or lesbian, he will still think she’s fair game. I think that plays into all the imbalances here. Let me know your feedback!
@QueentDB
@QueentDB 4 жыл бұрын
I agree sexism is at the route of aggressive flirting regardless if the woman is single or not. I've been approached by guys who flirted with me and where really respectful when I politely said no thanks. Then their's those guys who don't take no for an answer, those guys get increasingly aggressive and downright dangerous. As a female I'm harassed by men on a daily basis, and when I stand up for myself, I'm seen as a Bicth. When I see another woman being sexually harrassed, I always say something so she knows I've got her back. Because as women we should feel confident that other women are being supportive. And a person whose bisexual should feel supported by those who are also in the community. 🌈
@HannahSadie

We agree- there's a lot of sexism we didn't touch on in this conversation. There is such a huge problem with the idea of a man "turning someone's" sexuality. And Dee- we totally agree that women should stand up for one another. We're stronger when we build up those around us. Thank you both for being here!

A few great pop culture representations of bisexuality that I have really found great and meaningful to me personally, if you haven’t seen them: the song Gettin’ Bi (and Daryl, the character singing it) from Crazy Ex Girlfriend; Sara Lance, main character on Legends of Tomorrow; and Waverly Earp on Wynonna Earp. Also, the last two in particular give a big old middle finger to the “bury your gays” trope that unfortunately still persists in a lot of media today.

I remember when the mother of my now ex boyfriend (of almost ten years) said that she doesn’t believe in bisexuality, I explained it in an email later: sexual activity vs. sexual orientation. As an example that people tend to understand quite well I give Elton John. I ask: “Do you believe that Elton John is gay? If yes, do you believe he was gay when he was married to a woman? If yes, do you understand how this tells us that his ACTIVITY (being in a straight presenting marriage) differs from his sexual orientation (being gay)? If yes, expand this to bisexuality.” I also explained it in the context of hair colour. “As a straight woman married to a red haired man, you are still aware of the fact that you could potentially be attracted to a man with brown hair. You being married to a man with red hair doesn’t mean you lose all capacity to be attracted to other people potentially, nor does it mean that you implicitly “miss” being with a brown haired man and cannot feel “fulfilled” unless you are in a threesome or in a polyamorous relationship with men that have different hair colours. It simply means that you have the possibility, but as a monogamous person, right now, you are with this man, who happens to have red hair. You’re still attracted to certain actors who look nothing like him, and that doesn’t invalidate your relationship nor your sexuality.” For some reason this tends to really make sense to straight people in regards to bisexuality. I say “I’m that same vein, as a monogamous person, my “visible” or assumes sexual activity based on the relationship I am in doesn’t invalidate my being bisexual - it simply means that right now I’m happy with this person but I know I could theoretically like a person who is not the gender of that person. Or has a different hair colour. And I could also want to be with this person always and be just as happy but that depends on the relationship itself, not on my “missing a gender” just like you wouldn’t “miss a man with brown hair”. I feel like making sure monogamy is brought up clarifies a lack of education that makes people who simply are not as well versed in this topic because they don’t have to be, wrongly assign to certain labels. So this also ensures that bisexual experiences which are, for example, polyamourous, are not erased. I’ve also come to notice that this gets understood quite well: explaining a few different possibilities for sexual orientation with the SAME OUTWARD BEHAVIOUR. 1. So the first example was Elton John, always knew he was gay (as far as I’m aware), but compulsory societal pressures of heterosexuality etc, eventually came out. This example shows an awareness of one’s sexuality and deciding to act in ways which contradict it. 2. Second example would be someone like Sadie (or as another example, Ingrid Nielsen). Certain labels and categorisations as they are taught to be understood and certain feelings being framed throughout life that once shifted, puts everything in a different, more honest light. They may not have been aware of their sexuality previously but once the paradigm shift happens, regardless of their past activity or compulsive heterosexuality informed conviction in terms of their sexuality, they realise they were gay all along. 3. Third example could be someone whose sexuality is fluid. This is apparently fairly rare, but there are a few examples (Nyle DiMarco). People with fluid sexualities do have phases in preference, and those can go back and forth. This is distinctive from sexualities that encompass several genders in that during certain stretches of time, they find themselves being exclusively attracted to one gender. There’s a youtuber whose name I can’t recall right now, who genuinely was straight and one day a switch flipped and she’s genuinely fully gay as of now. She also explained that it is different from “realising it” or “looking back and finding signs” or thinking “this explains a lot”. She was very attracted to men, not at all to women, now it’s the opposite, and she seems very aware of the difference between outward pressures and her genuine attractions. 4. Now there’s the monogamous bisexual or pansexual, for example like Hannah (but also like Rosie from Rose & Rosie). Their lived experience is either one of being aware of their sexuality throughout, or even not aware at first, but experiencing that potential to be able to be attracted to most genders at any given time, as explained above. 5. The “exception”. This one kind of speaks for itself, I think, and I think it’s just as valid as any other one on this list. An example I can think of is Lindsey in queer as folk, who cheats (yeah I know, not a good example, and definitely not part of this category) on her girlfriend with a man, but tells her parents she’s still a lesbian and that it was an exception. This category, I think, falls into being a “flexible” sexuality. For example Hannah Witton has explained that she considers herself hetero flexible because there have been exceptions but she feels bisexuality would misrepresent how much she is into men. Okay these are the ones I can think of right now and it’s already probably a pretty long comment.

One of the most prominent member of an lgbtqiq+ couple, Rosie from Rose & Rosie identifies as bi, last year's winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Duncan Laurence from The Netherlands identifies as bi. I'm married to a woman and therefore I felt (also from within the lgbtqia+ community) that I wasn't gay enough to call myself a member of the community. It took me many years of struglle until a came out less than a year ago. For me the word bi comes from Latin for 2, so I always felt as if bi was just 2 genders, female and male. Although I was told that it should mean the opposite gender and any other gender, the lable feels wrong for me, because I feel I would have to prefer a gender, which I don't. For me the character of a person is all that counts and therefore I sort of lable myself pansexual (and also here I was told that I should lable myself polysexual). That's also the reason why I don't really like to lable myself. Thanks to you I just use the term "I'm not straight" and I'm very happy with it. At the end of the day if a human finds another human that makes it happy, then genders and lables aren't an issue.

Great video on an important topic. There's plenty of female bi representation out there (Kat Barrell from Wynona Earp or even on YT - Alayna Joy (engaged to a man), Rosie Daughton, married to a woman and so on) but there's much room for education. Even my wife, totally accepting of lesbian workmates believes bisexuals 'choose' to be bi. Aargh.

Another aspect that contributes to bi erasure is that a lot of bi-identifying people might have only been in relationships with the opposite sex. That doesn't make them any less bi but they're so often told it's just in their heads or that they can't possibly know and they are just basically absorbed into or pushed into the heteronormative world.

As bisexual, I have to say we’re the happy medium. Not to much, not so lil. My point is: we’re humans who fall in love with the person that our hearts chooses. Everything is different. Being bisexual is like food or sports. It depends what you like and how you like it. And with every single person is different. I honestly say that is depending on the person you’re with. Don’t have to label 🏷 ourselves. But as humans we do, and forget the real reason of every single life on earth is... LOVE 💕. What I see is Hannah loves Sadie and wants to be together. I’m glad that you guys are doing good and safe! Take care and be safe my girls 💜🌹♥️

08:00 Thaank you, I HATE the terms "straight" and "gay" relationship. It annoys me so much. It completely erases bisexuality and feeds the stereotypes. I personally think that if either of the people in the relationship are lgbtq and you NEED to call it something, then it's a qu**r relationship (censoring so YT will let me post it). Even because, this also erases nonbinary people, because then what are you gonna call it? I see no need to label relationships tbh, bc a relationship doesn't have sexuality.

Hey Patricia. When you are in a relationship with someone should you have to compete with another woman, man or transgender? If you and a person love each other and you are committed to each other then it should not matter what your partner's sexuality is. If you feel like you are competing with other people then there is something fundamentally wrong with that relationship.

No no no no no no! Being bi doesn't mean you're more likely to cheat. I have experienced this in the past, often from people who also say things like we'll your gay really, or straight really, depending on who you're with at the time.

Hi...I am gay and from Denmark. Not that it is a quality in itself, but just to put it in perspective. I sometimes, when me and some of my bi friends talk, hear the comment "Oh, so you havent decided yet what team you play for". I find that very rude, and I can see that it hurts those of my friends who are bisexual. But they dont say anything back, mostly because they are hurt by the comment, but also because there is really no point in trying to explain the difference between being bisexual, being gay, being straight and being stupid.

Thanks again Hannah and Sadie who are not straight ! its mind blowing indeed that most of us are bi.. the chance that some are 100% at one or the other end is quite slim. Being whatever we want or decide to be is pretty much the answer, based on cultural, traditional, occasion or just to fit in. i wonder what happen in those country where homosexuality deserve a life sentence in jail or death, therefore as if you are bi do you get away with half the retribution !!! hahaha, funny but so sad at the same time. The one who votes these discriminatory laws are probably bi theme-self obviously !! Bi Bye Bi 😁💕

Thanks for your comment and for watching! We agree (and probably should've said it more explicitly) that the biggest piece is that sexuality is fluid, but should be up to the individual to determine and share/not share! Jokes aside, we can't imagine what it would feel like to live in a country where some sexualities are criminal. Anyway- thank you for sharing! 🤚👌🤚👌

My daughter is bisexual - she is in love with, and engaged to a woman. When people ask me about her I just say she is gay. I use the term as an all- encompassing LGBTQ+ term. I don’t mean for it to be dismissive, I just hadn’t thought her label was important. She is who she is, and we love her as she is. We also love her fiancé and are looking forward to their wedding. Anyway, to me it’s nobody’s business - but I’m willing to listen if should be saying bisexual instead of simply gay. She doesn’t care, by the way.

By you referring to her as gay, that is the exact definition of bisexual erasure. She isn’t gay, she is bi. I would ask her how she wants you to refer to her and respect her wishes. Think of it this way, let’s say she marries her female fiancé, and then they divorce and your daughter remarries a man one day, does that mean she is straight? No, she is still bisexual.

Hi Hannah, bi girl here, we are everywhere, but kinda hiding... Because the words people who are plain homophobes dont hurt as much as the not-welcoming looks from part of the lgbtq+ community itself Another reason is the critisms from a part of the community that state we should identify as Pan. Wich, interesting argument! But.. BI has been a part of the lgbtq+ for ages and now sould be completely replaced?? There might be some misunderstanding because they feel the term excludes non-binary people, but that's not what the definition of Bi entails. Annnd even if there are a lot of us out there, most people are unaware themselves, there is a lot of people that just dont know this is a possiblity, they believe since they like the opposite gender they're straight. If they never meet someone of the same gender that completely "moves their foor", they might never start to think about it. Specially in strongly religious communities. (PA: love your videos! Spceally the music interludes. Your voices are just.. beautiful. Once i had really terrible stomach pain and having your music in the backround hepled me relax. So, thank you for uploading them :) !!) Much love from Argentina

I’m bi. But why care so much about other or society opinions. While fighting so much for labels not to have an importance you guys give too much importance to labels. If someone thinks I ‘m going trough a fase or I’m not a real lesbian. So what? Why wast time thinking about other reasoning? When in the end one must live a comfortable live. The way best fit me. Not others. People can only hurt us and be damaging and hurtful if we allow it. If we give importance to their words. That’s is just victimizing.

I'm a female who was born absolutely only inclined towards females and that has been my entire experience romantically and sexually in my 35 years of life. I also have never had to come out because my family is very special and I grew up just very secure with who I am. I think maybe for this reason I have always gravitated towards bisexual women somehow. I think it takes a lot of valor and self assuredness to be a person who is openly bisexual in this world. I also find that bisexual people who are sure of themselves have less hangups about what it means to be feminine or masculine and there's just a really long list of things that bisexual people just tend to "get". Again it depends on the individual but in general I am a fan of bisexual people since forever. I don't date often but when I do, I keep it bisexual.
