Bishop Barrón quotes Acts 4,12 in this video. “12 Salvation is found in no one else,” It’s very clear cut, the question here is not whether an Atheist, Buddhist, Hindu believes it. They Don’t. The question is whether we(you and I) believe it. In verse 17 something interesting happens and we have to be careful not to fall in this group of non-believers. “17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.” 18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.” IT’S Very difficult and troubling to speak truth it will get us in trouble. But Peter and John we not afraid of hurting peoples feeling when speaking TRUTH because TRUTH is JESUS(John 14,6) In verse 19 (Acts 4,19) the answer Peter and John give has to become our answer “19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!” Love and truth go together, you cannot have one with the other. Peter were very determined to speak truth even to other people from other religions and non-believers.

tim spangler Actually I think since God made humanity in His image and likeness if I would agree. Given the day and my interactions with people I would not be so sure lol. It's a difficult question for me. I have colleagues and friends who are agnostics and atheists but many if not most were raised Christians and I believe they're still running off the fumes of Christianity as their moral compass (whether they acknowledge it or know). Further generations of atheist Dogma terrifies me because of their souls and the extreme danger of moral relativism. What do you think? Great question!

Kelly Epperson Kelly, your commentary was perfect for this discussion. People presume, thoughtlessly as if it's a given but "to not rape and kill" are Judeo Christian values. I recommend people believing in the "be a good person" grossly oversimplified philosophy should search deeper. WHY do I think rape is wrong? Why is murder wrong. These things were and REMAIN ACCEPTED practices to this day in counties without values based on Judeo Christian teachings. Those who scoff at us silly religious people need to be reminded that their morals in fact are the same... because of Christ.

@LandaverdeJR4 жыл бұрын
Great answer! Bishop Barrón quoted Acts 4,12 but I urge you to continue reading thru verse 18, 19, 20, There is a reason why people are bothered 😕 you will find it here. “18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Peter and John did not fear what other people thought or how others felt. It is because they were speaking truth. You see TRUTH =JESUS John 14,6 “6Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.c From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” Something doesn’t add up in this explanation. 1 Corinthians 3, 10-15 explain how others, nonbelievers and those not sanctified might be saved and it’s is thru FIRE 🔥.

Thank you, Bishop Barron. I love to listen to your clear explanations of things theological. I've always thought it important to remember that God/Christ is Love, and therefore, those who have true love, the spirit of caring for others' welfare, also have a part, perhaps the second most important part of Christ in them, the love of their neighbor -- the first being loving God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Let us acknowledge that Love which is Christ in us, and let us acknowledge that Christ put His Love into our hearts, and let us share with others how the Love of Christ is in them. Let us pray that God will send His Holy Spirit as Love to call all His children to His Son, Jesus Christ. And when we hear that call, let us, most sincerely, invite Jesus Christ into our hearts that we may glorify the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit--the God of all. I pray that all find the Love of God within them, that all find their walk with Christ, the Lord God, and that all find the ineffable rich life that comes from knowing Him.

Thank you for the video addressing this important topic. We also had another reading recently that is close to, but doesn't include where St. Paul says the time for ignorance is over and then goes further and points toward judgment. St. Paul also stated that salvation is being offered to every creature. I like what you have said, but I think it is important to pin some things down for the sake of practical use in life and peace. I know drawing any hard lines is difficult here and it is a place where many welcome ambiguity to avoid the heavy weight of Jesus's impending judgment, but answering a few questions might clear some things up for those of us who like to make an effort to live more clearly in truth. 1. If someone dies in rejection of the Catholic faith, is it possible for them to be saved? 2. If someone rejects Jesus's words, can they be saved? 3. If someone rejects that Jesus is the Son of God, can they be saved? 4. How must anyone treat the faith, if they have known of it or had it offered to them to be saved and what is sufficient for something to be an offer of salvation when the internet makes the faith available to so many today? 5. How do we incorporate Jesus's teachings of brushing the dirt of one's feet off against them that reject the word, yet also that he did not come to condemn? 6. How do we interpret that we must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the Kingdom of God? 7. If anyone sins and is not formally forgiven, and so their sins are retained, can they be saved? Basically I would like to hear more and with all of the strong New Testament verses involved, please. Maybe this can be done in writing somehow. I know that I'm asking a lot but salvation is the big deal for us. Just to be sure, what you have said is great, but I find it insufficient in this short video format to address the problem as completely as I would like. Thank you again.

As a former Roman Catholic, now reformed protestant, it has been eye opening to see Catholic doctrine discussed by sincere Catholics on Pints w Aquinas and now this video. The protestant point of view would be that no one will be saved except those that hear the Gospel of Christ, repent from their sins, and put their faith in the saving work of Christ death on the cross. This is based on Romans 10:13 among many other verses. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:14-15 goes on to say "How, then can they call on the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" As far as a person who has not heard the gospel but has a desire to please God through the revelation of nature and his own good conscience, I believe the Apostle Paul makes it perfectly clear when he states in Romans 3:10-18. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one: there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless: there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths full of cursing and bitterness." "Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know." "There is no fear of God before their eyes." In Jesus time, the Jews put their traditions ahead of the Law and the Prophets, which were given through divine revelation. Jesus said "you have heard it said, but it is written" to show them God's true will. The Talmud was their extra-biblical text by which they tried to make detailed rules about following the Mosaic law. It led them further from God's will. Many protestants believe Catholics hold their traditions in higher regard than the clear teaching of the Bible. I would not want to follow the practices which Jesus rebuked. I am not trying to insult anybody. I am just sharing my point of view.

Well said sir. I agree whole heartedly because I feel many justify their sin or other's sin by compromising truth. Truth has one meaning, their is no compromise. I think everybody just wants to be nice. I eould argue what is nice about lying, whether on purpose or by ignorance. I know I commit that sin of wanting to be nice in order to not create further tension everyday, but it is still lying... it is truly a massive struggle.

I know we don't have to believe in saints or NDE but I do find some comfort that everyone has experiences when dead for few minutes or more that seem to be the same no matter how they were brought up. Jewish children and adults see people they loved, angels, feel a love they can't replicate on earth.Some are taught lessons by seeing sins. God is perfect, we aren't, God isn't human with a human brain and he'll judge fairly. This "we are it" mentality to others who weren't exposed to the same upbringing or who had awful experiences with Christianity make God into a human dictator who sees black and white. The bible is real but so much isn't there too, so many conversations, so many stories. You will know them hopefully one day. We can only pray and keep trying to be good followers.

Thank you for your thoughts, Bishop Barron. I have been helped a lot through your various teaching venues. Several other Scriptures came to mind on this topic. This same St Peter says after he noticed the Spirit's decent on the household of Cornelius. (Acts 10:34-36) "Peter began to speak: “Now I truly understand that God doesn’t show favoritism, but in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. He sent the message to the Israelites, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ - he is Lord of all." Again, both ideas brought together: "...(1) in every nation the person who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.... (2) Jesus Christ - he is Lord of all." I also thought of St John writing: (1 John 3:7) "Children, let no one deceive you. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous." While certainly not "the whole story" there is something to be said for that.

God and Jesus are Love. All religious teachings, and those who have Love in their hearts, must therefore have a part of God and Christ in them. I am proud to be a Catholic and am glad to see that the Catholic church preaches as it does, sharing the Lord Jesus Christ with others. To experience the fullness of God and what He wants to give you, you must develop your walk with Christ. More and more people are figuring this out day-by-day. And as the world becomes more and more corrupt and bizarre, more and more people will find the Lord. Every knee will bend, eventually. Christ is Lord and He is open to all who would turn toward Him. How communal, how inclusive is that?! Thank you Bishop Barron. You work tirelessly to save souls. Even the most die-hard atheist would appreciate your courage of convictions and your work ethic. May more of us learn about the Lord and share Him with others as you have with us.

Bishop Barron, correct me if I am wrong. I think it all begins with defining what is the proper concept of salvation. The general populace concept of salvation is freedom from material suffering and misery, their consciousness is centered in "I", I, Me, Mine. I want to be save. They are not eye specialist but "I" specialist. They are selfish, narcissistic, their subjective objective of love is their self. There is no relationship. For me, the real concept of salvation is not freedom from suffering but freedom to love the Supreme lovable God (meaning of Supreme is there is no higher than Him) whatever the circumstances and conditions of life. It is real love, it is real relationship, it is the relationship of the lover and the beloved. And the reciprocation of love that transcends us into the material misconception of life. Again Bishop, kindly correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

Well, Bishop, you're right that there are rays of light in other faiths. And you're right that other faiths can commune with God. "I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, `Here am I, here am I. " You must remember, that salvation only comes through Christ. He is the Narrow Gate. Other faiths have communed with aspects of our LORD, but only a believer who has all three Persons of the Trinity in their worship, can be saved. Even religions that have the Son, but not the Father, or Spirit, cannot be saved, such as Unitarians. There needs to be worship of the entire Triune God. I would modify your statement with that.

Once again, Bishop Robert Barron teaches exactly what Holy Mother Church teaches, in the most beautiful terms possible! Thank you, Bishop Barron! To be clear: He never said you can be saved without Christ. He said that God-given conscience is the "aborginal vicar of Christ," that is the internal voice FROM CHRIST and the Holy Ghost, not from someone else, in the event of Invincible Ignorance. Which is the same thing Pope Pius XII said, before Vatican II. Which is essentially the same thing Saint Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church, said in saying that the non-Christian who earnestly follows his conscience can be converted by Jesus at the instant of physical death. Actual Pope Pius IX did, however, say "There are, of course, those who are struggling with invincible ignorance about our most holy religion. Sincerely observing the natural law and its precepts inscribed by God on all hearts and ready to obey God, they live honest lives and are able to attain eternal life by the efficacious virtue of divine light and grace since God who clearly beholds, searches, and knows the minds, souls, thoughts, and habits of all men, because of His great goodness and mercy, will by no means suffer anyone to be punished with eternal torment who has not the guilt of deliberate sin." This was NOT Vatican II or later. This was in the 1800s! He wrote this in the context of EENS and how to interpret it.

@Charles Carroll , What absolutely "proves" GOD's existence, and that He established only ONE CHURCH - being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH??? GOD keeping His covenant promises. GOD established the Davidic Covenant promise in 2 Samuel 7:12-16 (931-722 BC), then that same covenant promise was expanded upon in Psalms 89:27-37 (539-450 BC), Isaiah 22:21-23 (700-680 BC), Jeremiah 33:14-22 (586-570 BC), and Ezekiel 34:23, 37:24-26 (590-570 BC). Jesus Christ (whom fulfilled 355 old testament prophecies and resurrected from the dead overwhelmingly proved His claim of being GOD in John 10:30) fulfilled the Davidic Covenant in Matthew 16:18-19 that has now resulted in 2,000 and ongoing years of covenant "proof" (Pope): www.accordingtothescriptures.org/prophecy/353prophecies.html www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm catholicexchange.com/church-new-israel

@Charles Carroll , A Sacrament that has salvation written all over it. Much more than a "personal relationship" it is a marriage covenant between GOD and His chosen people - "Marriage Supper of the Lamb". ***You need an altar and Catholic priest to enter that covenant relationship.*** How do all Catholics become His ONE BODY, ONE "VISIBLE" CHURCH, ONE TEMPLE OR ONE BRIDE??? "Real Presence" or Holy Eucharist Defense 1. "Pascal lamb" In Exodus 12:3-14 GOD "forever" liturgically commands the PASSOVER as a means of proper worship. In the Passover, GOD REQUIRED the "lamb" to be consumed for "Death to Passover" (Exodus 12:3-8). Then Jesus, the "Lamb of GOD" (John 1:29, 1 Corinthians 5:7, 1 Peter 1:19), transforms this "forever" GOD commanded PASSOVER Feast during the "Last Supper" (in every synoptic Gospel account) into the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER (Luke 22:19). Further, in context of the PASSOVER (John 6:4) Jesus Christ's "Bread of LIFE" discourse He REQUIRES us to "abide" in His BODY and BLOOD for "Death to Passover" (John 6:54-58). ***Protestants, Jesus Christ states the consequences of not partaking of Him in John **6:53**.*** Additional John Chapter 6 Proof??? In John 6:60, everyone was disbelieving Jesus's "hard" teaching (John 6:54-58) about the Holy Eucharist. So, put yourself in Jesus's shoes how would you respond to people disbelieving you??? Wouldn't you want to provide some sort of "proof" or "evidence" you mean what you say??? How does Jesus Christ respond to His disbelievers in John 6:60 and what "proof" will He provide to them and you per John 6:62??? 2. "Heavenly Manna" GOD provided "Spiritual Food and Drink" (1 Corinthians 10:1-4) to His old covenant people, so wouldn't Jesus Christ provide something for His NEW COVENANT chosen people??? Jesus Christ compares Himself to the old covenant "Heavenly Manna" in John 6:31-35. Jesus teaches how the "Heavenly Manna" that came down "daily" will now actually be Him (John 6:51-58). In the "Our Father" prayer Jesus Christ states "give us THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD" that actually refers to the NEW COVENANT MANNA or Jesus Christ Himself as the "BREAD OF LIFE" (John 6:35, 48, 51). Acts 2:46. The Catholic Church has been "breaking bread (of LIFE) daily" of the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER (Luke 22:19) before the Book of Acts was even written in the mid 60's AD, all along since Jesus Christ's death in 33AD, and to this very day fulfilling Malachi 1:11 prophecy all across the world "daily"!!! 3. "HOW HE WAS MADE KNOWN TO THEM in the Breaking Bread" (Luke 24:35) In the Luke 24:13-35 "Road to Emmaus" scriptures, there is a clear "structure" of worship being referrenced - being the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER or better known as the Catholic Mass. In Luke 24:27, there is an opening up of the old testament Sacred Scriptures (Readings). Then, a clear explanation of how Jesus Christ fulfilled all the old covenant prophecies and covenant promises (Homily). Then, we have a "participation in" (1 Corinthians 10:16-17) the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER "breaking of bread" where the "Lamb of GOD" Jesus Christ ultimately becomes "KNOWN" to us. Protestants, what does Jesus Christ say to you refusing to "break bread" and "become KNOWN" to Him in His ONE and ONLY "Kingdom of GOD" here on earth - being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH - per Luke 7:21-23??? Still saved??? 4. "Bread of the PRESENCE" Along with the Passover, GOD "forever" liturgically commands the "Bread of the PRESENCE" to be part of proper worship of Him in Leviticus 24:5-9. In the old Jewish Temple, the old "Heaven and Earth" of worship, a veil seperated two main worship rooms. In the outer room was the "Bread of the PRESENCE". A veil separated it from the inner room that was called the HOLY of HOLIES, where no one could enter but the High Priest once a year. This inner room the HOLY of HOLIES is where Jews believed God's "real presence" remained. So, when Jesus Christ died the veil was reported to have been "torn" (Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45). Thus, liturgically speaking there no longer remains any barrier between GOD'S presence and the "Bread of the PRESENCE" (Matthew 28:20). So, if the veil was "torn" allowing GOD'S presence in the Holy of Holies to flow to the "BREAD of the PRESENCE" in the outer room of worship, then what does the Holy Eucharist or "Bread of the PRESENCE" truly become in the fulfilled NEW COVENANT FORM??? 5. "ONE BREAD ONE BODY" 1 Corinthians 10:16-17. If the "many" become "ONE BODY" through "participation in" the ONE SACRIFICE of the "Lamb of GOD" Jesus Christ in the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER, then how can the Holy Eucharist logically be a mere symbol as Protestants purport??? Truly, we can ONLY become ONE BODY (1 Corinthians 10:16-17, Ephesians 5:29-32), ONE FLOCK (John 10:16), ONE TEMPLE (1 Corinthians 3:17), ONE CHURCH (Ephesians 4:4-6), ONE BRIDE (2 Corinthians 11:2) through the "ONE" Jesus Christ (John 6:54-58) the "Lamb of God" (John 1:29, 1 Corinthians 5:7, 1 Peter 1:19) in the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER (Luke 22:19). 6. "EAT AND DRINK JUDGMENT UPON OURSELVES" 1 Corinthians 11:27-29. If "partaking unworthily" is "eating and drinking JUDGMENT upon ourselves", then once again how logically can the Holy Eucharist merely be a symbol as Protestants purport??? 7. Partaking of "Divinity" (John 6:55-56, 2 Peter 1:4, Catechism #460) is the only way to become a true Son or Daughter of GOD. In the Garden of Eden man was created in the "image" and "likeness" of GOD. Through Adam and Eve's disobedience it caused us to lose our "likeness" to GOD (original sin). For how can GOD's "likeness" and goodness ever mix with sin??? (John 3:6, Romans Chapter 5) Jesus Christ is the NEW ADAM OF OBEDIENCE. In God's beautiful salvation plan He takes a "do not partake" old Adam of disobedience and the removal of the "TREE OF LIFE" (Genesis 3:23), and completely transforms it into telling us to "partake" of the "TREE OF LIFE". Catholics actually receive His priest, prophet and King "divinity" in the Holy Eucharist, thereby obtaining our "likeness" back if we only partake "worthily" (1 Corinthians 11:27-29). We truly become "divine" Sons and Daughters of GOD by "uniting" with Jesus Christ the NEW ADAM (Romans 5:12-21). As a result, we become a part of GOD'S NEW CREATION (2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15, Ephesians 1:10, Colossians 1:15-17, 20) here on earth. The "TREE OF LIFE" hangs above every Catholic Church altar. 8. "Thanksgiving" or Jewish Todah In this Jewish Messianic prophecy feast the "lamb" sacrifice had to occur at the same time the "bread and wine" was consecrated. Just as the Jews believed they were "participating in" the original timeless and eternal first PASSOVER when celebrating their old covenant "forever" GOD commanded Passover (Exodus 12:14), so do we Catholics believe we are "participating in" the ONE SACRIFICE of Jesus Christ during the consecration of the bread and wine (1 Corinthians 10:16-17) in the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER. The Greek "Eucharistia" or English meaning "Thanksgiving" Feast for what Jesus Christ has done for us is the source, summit, and ultimate high point of worship in the NEW COVENANT. 9. "Marriage Supper of the Lamb" (Revelation 19:9). Every CATHOLIC during the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER "Mass" enters the aisle and approaches the "Bridegroom" Jesus Christ the "Lamb of God" who hangs above every single Catholic altar. We see the "Bridegroom" who emptied Himself out of love for us on the cross - for His ONE and ONLY "BRIDE" - the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. The "right and just" response of each and every Catholic is to give all of ourselves back to Him in the "Marriage Supper of the Lamb" NEW COVENANT PASSOVER. Historical support per Early Church Father beliefs on the "Real Presence" Holy Eucharist: www.therealpresence.org/eucharst/father/a5.html Be "ONE WITH CHRIST" by accepting His ONE and ONLY BODY in the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH.

@Charles Carroll , PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY AS IF YOUR ETERNAL “LIFE” DEPENDED ON IT In the Book of Hebrews Chapter 10, in context, the author was talking to “baptized” Christians (Hebrews 10:22) telling them to not be “neglecting to meet together” in “the Church” - being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. Why “the Church”??? ***Hebrews **10:26**-29 “For IF WE SIN DELIBERATELY after receiving knowledge of the truth, THERE NO LONGER REMAINS A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, BUT A FEARFUL PROSPECT OF JUDGMENT, AND A FURY OF FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES………..HOW MUCH MORE PUNISHMENT DO YOU THINK WILL BE DESERVED BY THE MAN WHO HAS SPURNED THE SON OF GOD, AND PROFANED THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT BY WHICH HE HAS SANCTIFIED, AND OUTRAGED THE SPIRIT OF GRACE”.*** What does Sacred Scriptures clearly say “IF WE SIN DELIBERATELY” or willfully break any of the commandments whether the old (10 Commandments) or NEW (Laws of LOVE or refusing to LOVE as Christ commands per John 13:34)??? If “THERE NO LONGER REMAINS A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, BUT A FEARFUL PROSPECT OF JUDGMENT”, then how does one obtain reconciliation with GOD again??? We must examine the old covenant to fully understand the NEW COVENANT. In Leviticus 5:5-6 and Numbers 5:5-9 we understand what an old covenant Jew had to do to receive GOD's forgiveness. Additionally, GOD in the Books of Leviticus and Numbers any time personal “sin” is even mentioned you will read over and over again “THUS THE PRIEST SHALL MAKE ATONEMENT FOR A MAN’S SINS AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN” (Lev 4:20, 4:26, 4:31,4:35, 5:6, 5:10, 5:13, 5:16, 5:18, 6:7, 7:7, 12:8, 14:18, 14:19, 14:20, 14:29, 14:31, 15:15, 15:30, 16:32, 16:33, 19:22 Num. 6:11,15:25, and 15:28). In the old covenant, GOD clearly uses ordained “men”, the Leviticus Priesthood, to administer His forgiveness. Now, does GOD keep His WORD and covenant promises??? GOD promises to have a perpetual priesthood per His covenant in Numbers 25:12-13 and Malachi 2:4-7 and has WORDS of “forever” in Exodus 29:7-9, 40:15, and 1 Chronicles 23:13. Then, GOD promises to have a perpetual priesthood in Jeremiah 33:14-22 NEW COVENANT PROPHECY. And, in context of “gathering the nations” in Isaiah 66:18 GOD states in Isaiah 66:21 “some of them also I will take for priests”, meaning no longer based on Levi tribal lineage in the NEW COVENANT. In John Chapter 13, we see Jesus Christ fulfilling His Father’s Levi Covenant promise and Malachi 3:3 prophecy, when He sits down in the upper room “purifying” the NEW COVENANT PRIESTHOOD with a “washing”. This “washing” was a “forever” priestly liturgical GOD command in Exodus 30:21- in order to perform any altar work or sacrifice. What “same” power does the Son of GOD give to His ONE and ONLY established Church or “the Church” per Matthew 16:19, 18:18 and specifically explained to the NEW COVENANT PRIESTHOOD by Jesus in John 20:21-23??? In 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 St. Paul describes what Jesus Christ did was He “GAVE US THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION” and concluded “SO WE ARE AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST”. An “ambassador” wields what kind of power as an “official representative” of Christ or more specifically explained in “the Church” as “persona Christi”??? Please come or return to your real home and be “reconciled” to “the Church” HIS ONE BODY (Ephesians 4:4-6). What did Jesus Christ create, pray for in John 17:21-23 and die for??? If you really LOVE Jesus Christ, then you will respond to His prayer and join the “ONENESS” that He created. The “Lamb of GOD” wants to unite with you in the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER (Luke 22:19) in His ONE and ONLY established Church, so we all can be “perfectly ONE”. May GOD richly bless you on your journey.

I think it's a fine distinction to make. On the one hand, the scriptures seem clear to me that Jesus is the only way. And the urgency with which the apostles preached the message testifies to that. However, I also believe that if God was willing to incarnate himself as Jesus Christ and suffer all he did for the sake of all, surely he will pursue us until we are saved. But we are also free to choose and to receive the consequences of our choices.

The question that comes to my mind is. What is conscience? Is it something given us at birth by God, or is it developed by training and exposure to values in our environment? An action committed "in good conscience" may mean different things to different people.

" There are much more effective ways to control people." Not as long as people fear death. " The fact that Christ's teaching were against the status quo does not make it effective." You are looking at just one tree in the forest. Eternal reward for commitment to a particular faith, or eternal damnation for having no such commitment? Avaible to everybody capable of believing, can not be disproven (nor proven), paints us out as creatures BORN with sin, meaning the we ought to be compelled to indoctrinate even or innocent children. Chalks up all miracles that save people as acts of God, while all non-miracles are reduced to "God works in mysterious ways". This is a brilliantly designed system to exploit the fear of death. You propose to somebody superstitious that they are gambling with their eternal happiness, and that their child will be doing the same thing. Why do you think that the gods offering no carrots or sticks of the afterlife are all abandoned?

True, but there are many who are with Christ even if they don't know it. Those are the ones who will say to Him "When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?" and He will say to them "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Those who follow their conscience and treat others with love and compassion are in effect receiving Christ in their lives.

Thank you Bishop for your fervor for Jesus! In my understanding Jesus' name is Agape Mature Unconditional Love & Mercy & and he gave us his Holy Spirit of compassion and He became sin and on the cross of judgment. forgave us so that we would not perish so that we could stay in Father God's family for eternity. God recently tapped me on the shoulder to let me turn around to repent from looking at all the wrong things to repent from listening to the devil turning around to look upon the face of Jesus who is perfect love that drives out fear and nothing else matters besides His love, pure joy and pure peace. We can choose to draw close to him becoming prodigals praying for those who are beat up by the devil like all who sinned & begin to protect others in love in prayer for HIS glory so that they might see Him with His love grace mercy and compassion. God said He gave me my brain and said he could take it away and he can give it back. He is my Lord. He honors us with giving us the privilege to wash each other's feet from the dust of stepping on one another in our attempts to justify our theology. Lord have mercy for we still don't fully understand how to love one another as you have loved us. Repent & be baptized in the fullness of the Lord!

And you see that these pagans had ALREADY the Holy Spirit before they were baptized ... Only through Christ and the Catholic Church, but sprinkled, spilled, poured, spread to EVERYONE (who has a rightfull intention in their heart) !!! Thanks to the Father

This makes no sense to me. I'm a new Catholic and I came into the Catholic Church because I understood it to be true. I believe in God when before I didn't. However, before I believed I still followed my conscience choosing right over wrong. I didn't break laws or hurt people. I spend my whole adult life trying to help people. From what I understand, you say I would have gone to heaven even had I not converted or believed what the Church teaches? If that's true, then why even bother? I was made to understand (in RCIA) that unless I get baptized (if possible), eat the body and drink the blood of Christ in the Eucharist, and Confess regularly, that I would end up in Hell. Only we Catholics do this. I want to avoid hell which is why I converted. I just don't understand. I guess I'm just not grasping what you're saying correctly. This is the second time I've heard you say that non-believers can go to heaven. This seems to be a dilemma with what I've been taught in the church so far. Sort of a paradox. Bishop, help me to understand please.
@BishopBarron6 жыл бұрын
Non-believers can in principle be saved. The Church is not saying it's easy, but it's possible, through the sincere following of one's conscience. None of this conduces toward the relativism you're worried about however. The fullness of salvation and the surest path to salvation are on offer in the Catholic Church, and therefore by all means remain in the Church! For the details, take a look at the Vatican II document Lumen Gentium.

Bishop, why does then Jesus say he is the only way to the Father? Why can we not be as direct as Jesus or the apostles? To the brother who asked the question, please read the following in Galtians 1 " 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. "

Don't ruin your life worrying about an existent or non existent after life. If you are a good person, that is more than enough rather than listening to any church or the men who created these rules in the name of God. A God with unconditional love wont have a condition that you should be baptized, its as simple as that. Catholics\Christianity in general do not really have any concepts of their own. All stolen from older Greek, Hindu and pagan mythologies , Trinity, hell to name a few. Just peace out and live your life as an experience than live in fear of hell after death. Cheers.

Alex, appreciate your views, its your choice and your way of seeing penal substitution. This is the core doctrine of Christianity and this is just absurd. I was a Catholic for over 30 years believing in all these stories. You can either consider that as Jesus' sacrifice for your sins which you are born with (original sin) or an absurd doctrine created by men using a noble man's brutal death. The real reason Jesus carried the cross was because of his blasphemous teachings at that time. With regards to hellfire, prove it. Don't believe everything people say to spread a propaganda of their own. It is about time to be a heresey of Christianity.

There are other passages such as the one on Mark 16. He says that if ones gets baptized will be saved but if not that person will not be saved. And in Matthew 28 it says that if priest do not forgive our sins they are not forgiven. Also in John 6 says that if we do not eat his body and do not think his blood we have no eternal life. And finally he says there are two paths and narrow is the path for salvation and few are the ones that walk on it. St Peter says if is hard for us christians to be saved is even harder for those who are not. That is why we need Christ and his church.

The following (below) is from The Catechism of the Catholic Church. It certainly agrees with Bishop Robert Barron. And it certainly helps Evangelization. And it certainly helps with a zealous compassionate zeal to assertively share The Catholic faith *without* a judging or condemning attitude toward persons. We are supposed to help with understanding of how The Church is necessary for a much more complete relationship with Jesus Christ; assert the virtues; and mostly by living attractive compassionate peaceful lives. This shows much more how the Church is necessary for salvation than either extreme - get in or go to hell - or it doesn't matter. It does matter; and evangelization will be much more successful the more we live as witnesses, shining Christ's Light on the hillside. "Outside the Church there is no salvation" 846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? 335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body: Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336 847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church: Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337 848 "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men."338

As such, most people simply envision the "deities" or "prophets" of their culture/belief system: www.near-death.com/religion/islam.html Sorry, but Jesus ain't making house calls to Hindus and Muslims.

Remember that "This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:4) I envision Jesus or his angels having to instruct everyone that is trying to enter the "pearly gates" about the truth. The sincere muslim has to learn that Jesus (Isa Ibn Maryam) isn't just a messenger, the sincere Jehovah Witness member has to learn Jesus isn't St. Michael, the sincere Reformed has to learn that Jesus wasn't punished by the Father on the Cross, etc.

Would never teach this as official church teaching but it sounds as if it would fit in well with the Mercy of God who wants all to be saved. It's a good theological opinion. I like it.

Thank you for clarifying Catholicism... now have another question. What exactly does the word “death” “die” vs. reborn” mean within Christianity?
@Eserr78564 жыл бұрын
Death and die mean the same thing in Christianity, it is the separation of the soul from the body. To be reborn occurs at baptism, when we are spiritually united to the Holy Trinity.

We all have the opportunity to be saved. But those who know Christ and deny him will not be saved.

John3: 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Like Bishop Barron. said, this is not a mountain where everyone going to the top will reach by taking a different path. The question is, though they might have some aspects of truth would you risk eternity on a some aspects? Let us look at this from another angle. We are travelers on a long trip to our home in need of water to finish the journey. Along the way we see Five glasses of water. The first Glass is pure water, that reflects the Catholic church, each of the other glasses of water contain 20, 40, 60, even 80 percent Arsenic. Though they contain some (truth) pure water, would you risk drinking? Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heaven. Matthew 7:21

It is in the name: Jesus = Yeshu = Yeshua = Yahushua = God Saves
@JohnSmith-yw9nk6 жыл бұрын
You do realize that name was extremely common, right? "Jesus" comes from the Greek "Iesous," which itself was a rendering of the Hebrew "Yeshua." This was a pretty common name back in the day, both in its own right and as a shortened form of "Yehoshua," the English equivalent of which is "Joshua." Then, as now, it was a pretty common name. Biblical names frequently are. Thus, if you look at the Septuagint, the ancient translation of the Bible into Koine Greek (Greek from the time of Alexander the Great to about the time of the fall of the Roman Empire), you'll find many, many people with the name Iesous. None of them are the Jesus of the Christian Bible, though - the Septuagint was written two centuries before that Jesus' time.

Not as extremely common as John Smith ;)

John Smith , I used to live in Israel, and once had dinner with a curator who told me he had a deed from the first century documenting a house sold by Yeshua to another Yeshua and witnessed by two other Yeshuas. He also said variants of Miriam were roughly a quarter of Jewish women at the time.

The name Jesus isn't like a Harry Potter magic spell. Were there other people in the Bible and beyond with the same name? Yes. If your intent when saying the name is to communicate with the Second Person of the Trinity, as known through the gospel, that will be evident in your heart.

Kelly, not that I have the same authority as the bishop, but from what I can tell, you aren't off base at all.

I understand what this priest is saying about the other religions. Jesus Christ is the church. Only He can save us. It does not matter who you are or where you come from. If you confess with your mouth,"Jesus is Lord, and you believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Roman's 10:9
