Jesus did not get rid of borders; He got rid of the doctrines of man, which were taught as the Law of God. In Malachi 3:5, God says that He "will be a swift witness against... those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans, and against those who turn away an alien-" That being said, aliens need to vetted properly to ensure the safety of the citizens of those within the borders that they are seeking to enter. Our God is a God of laws. Those who wished to sojourn among God's people (Israel), were required to observe His laws. I pray that the President will be compassionate with regard to how he handles deportations and that it will be handled on a case by case basis. One misnomer is the fact that these people are paying taxes. While some are, many are not. You cannot work legally and pay taxes without a social security number or tax ID number. That means that many are utilizing resources withou contributing to the funding for those resources. There is nothing Biblical about that. Additionally, you are assuming that they are "good". One doesn't know whether another person is "good" without vetting them. When one assumes, one opens themselves up to becoming a victim. As Rabbi wisely stated, we cannot let emotion override wisdom.

Shalom Rabbi Schneider, I respectfully disagree with your comments in regards to migrants. You have used the Old Testament to draw comparison between America and Israel in regard to borders and foreigners. Migrants are native to this continent due to indigenous ancestry and highly Catholic and the majority are God fearing. Many come for work and come from abject property. They should never be compared with the inhabitants that God instructed Israel to drive out primarily because -they are also christian/catholic. They don't bring strange beliefs to this culture.(however we can all agree that criminals should be punished and deported) president trump uses blanket statement "criminals" to describe 11 million ppl. ICE has permission to make arrests in work places, schools, hospitals and churches. Jesus constantly told us to love our neighbors and set aside prejudices. He reviled the hypicritical religious establishment because they abandoned mercy in favor of, as you point out, logic. The Lord shared the story of the Good Samaritan because perhaps to overcome xenophobia and not letting cultural differeces keep us from compassion toward one another. And In I John 3:17 "... if anyone has this world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him how does God's love abide in him." The bishop was not being emotional she was being scriptural and although she may have had faults, The Bible says that love covers a multitude of sins. Dismissing the bishop's comments as merely an "emotional" plea that should be overridden by logic, then really why would anyone care for anybody? Why should history matter? May I challenge you to be careful where you are getting your news. The legacy media (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc) are all spinning the immigration issue exactly the way you are saying, and I do not believe they (legacy media) even desire to portray the issues in a non-biased fashion.

I pray that Rabbi Schneider would talk to the president that he would want to accept Christ…for out of Trumps own mouth I heard him say “why do I need to ask for forgiveness.” Perhaps Rabbi could sow a seed and someone else will water it and God will grow his heart and Trump would in turn no longer speak in a childlike manner but speak God’s truth and not his own.
