Great detail at the roof junction. And the aluminum rain screen over the timber windows! So simple, but such a great idea.

Also, just realized where you are in the world. Love it. Have visited NZ a dozen times, can't wait to get back. Hear you're moving South, and congratulations on that! (I bought a place on the Gold Coast a few years ago, and I always said the best part of living in AUS was the short flight to New Zealand!)

@@michaelhorgan6640 Cheers mate, that's cool! Gold coast is not too far at all. We have been in Nelson just over a month now, loving it!

Ha! I do not think we'll aim for anything like that... Quite happy to be under-the-radar. We were coerced into making these videos as part of our mission statement to give away the secret formulas :)

Great job! This is important info. It's crazy actually how efficient your energy usage becomes after putting in some extra time and money up front. I will be sure to share this video with my peeps!

Is there a reason why the gutex fibre board is not covered with a waterproof membrane ? Surely if water penetrated the structure and got in around the window, the gutex would in time become wet and cause damage, or is it sufficiently waterproof to only need sealing at the joints ?Jeremy
@cairncollaborative77363 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy, This specific type of gutex utilizes a paraffin wax coating that allows it to have water shedding capabilities. We had 11 inches of rain get absorbed while this was up and it dried out completely in about 24 hours.

@@cairncollaborative7736 thanks. I’m planning on using the gutex on a prototype passivhaus that I’ve designed. We have a particularly unforgiving climate here in the UK. especially when it comes to water penetration.

I like this video series. Glad I found it. How did you air seal the outlookers?
@cairncollaborative77363 жыл бұрын
Hi Jesse, glad you found us. For the outlookers we made sure that the roof membrane came down past our wall membrane to prevent any gaps at that junction. We then cut out just enough space for the outlooker and taped around it. We probably had about 30 in the back and front too tape, so it wasn't bad at all. I think you can spy this detail in the wall mock up video? But basically- very careful taping and that overlap to begin with!
