I have been on this road and sat through the same thing... we stayed at the north entrance to Yellowstone and every morning would go into the park. This large herd crossed every morning from the west side of the road to the east. We spent the day in the park and then every evening got stopped by the same herd crossing from the east side of the road to the west. They come very close to the cars. I have a great pic of my entire side passenger window filled with the shoulder of a buffalo. I could have reached out to touch it, if I had been stupid...

@mariashaffer-gordon35612 жыл бұрын
@@dawnegan3984 I don't know about Yellowstone, but in Custer State Park in South Dakota, they have a good idea of how many bison can be supported by the park, and they try to keep the herd to around that size. If there are too many bison, then there's not enough to eat. I think they eat something like 32 pounds (14.5 kilos) of food/day. Unfortunately for the bison, they are tasty as well as magnificent. I eat the meat of cows, pigs, and chickens, so I see no reason not to eat bison as well.

Been in traffic jams where they threaded in between cars nonchalantly, but this large herd is great. In Sept. they should be heading for lower altitude, but these are heading up to Silver Gate.Maybe they turn off before reaching Beartooth Pass which is above timberline.

Once I was hiking and saw few Bisons in the open, so I got up close to 40m as national park suggested, and bisons got panic, started running in circle surround me. and there're not few, more and more coming out of forest, following the swarm of panic, I felt the ground trembling. There were hundreds circling me. Some young male stopped panic, and started kicking their feet, like they're going to charge. Fuck me. I stand still, and walk back super slowly try not to walk into direction where there's cub. Finally they moved on, and I saw a sign in the open area, It said '1. in mating season, keep 200m distance. 2. don't stand in the open'. and they didn't have this info on brochure, must be insider joke. But I'm proud of myself for not peeing in my pants.

Years ago a large bull attacked a school bus and tipped it over on its side. I didn't see any really large bison in this group. A really large bull makes me shiver a bit knowing their power. But if you're nitwit city slicker or just totally clueless you probably won't be alarmed at all.

People should really think about how they title their videos here. This is no more a charge than I'm a famous comedian. I guess they do it just so that they'll get more 'hits' to their videos. I"m a native Idahoan and spent MANY times in Yellowstone Park and the surrounding area. This year, there have been multiple bison gorings due to human stupidity. These are NOT tame animals. This guy, grunting at them as they pass, or having his arms out the window ("I guess I should pull my arm in") only shows his ignorance. Sat through a couple of these "charges" earlier this year. An awesome sight that may disappear if people continue with their stupidity.

"Funny noises", to a wild animal may be taken as a challenge. I take if YOU're a tourist too.

I drove up through West Yellowstone this past summer, and on the road going North along the Gallatin River, there was a herd of about 50-60 bison walking right up the road as these were. Those of us in our vehicles simply stopped and let the bison walk around us. I had a window rolled down and my camera in one hand, taking shots as they came past. It's an amazing experience - these animals are so huge and powerful.

I think it's a chance of a lifetime to see these creatures walking about 3 feet apart. I hope one day i will have the chance to do so.

Having grown up (and still live) 90 minutes from Yellowstone Park, I still always get a thrill at seeing big game.

They are not charging. If they have charged you this post wouldn't be here. Bison don't attack unless you frighten them.
