Today we watched a herd of bison risk the lives of their new born calves, not once but twice, to avoid a brutal attack by grizzlies. These calves risked drowning twice to avoid a family of grizzly bears. For most of them this was their first river crossing and for two little calves it pushed them to their limit. The is cold, fast and pretty strong - will they make it?

After about 30 seconds " Flight of the Valkyries " began playing in my head. To my untrained eye it seems two or three bison took turns standing rear guard. Or maybe it's just my romantic side showing through. The antelope are almost comically unconcerned. Great video. My daughters will have to see this.

Fantastic Opportunity & most Excellent Filming. The Test of the Physically Strong and Hardy Bison Cow's with week Old Calf's. Avoiding the Highly Intelligent Sow Grizzly with possibly Two year Old Young, persistently intent on taking a Calf by Separating the Herd 🦬🦬 aggressively or Causing a Calf too be Flushed Down Stream too them. Now that is Interesting, Highly Intelligent and just Friggin Amazing Hunting Prowess, in My estimations. Nature is a Very Intriguing Thing, when You Can See it Play Out in Such Rare Events. Thank You for Sharing. PS. All Ended Well After the Event Started Hurrah Hurrah. YEAH 👍😂👍.

I have a Grizzly video on my KZbin channel that I posted from another channel. (I believe it's posted on my 'playlist'. These 2 guys were camping in tents and hunting elk. (I believe it was in Canada???) They were up on a mountain looking for an elk and saw this Grizzly bear running down in the valley, so they started filming it. Now, I'm not going to spoil the video, but once that bear caught a scent, it was amazing. The ENDURANCE and speed of a Grizzly bear in general blew my mind.😳

Wow I found it and watched it. I think I had watched that before but it was a couple of years ago. Thank you for sharing that. This time the defense of an ungulate in the river didn't pay off at all. Please do subscribe and nice job on the farm pics you shared I am sure that was a lot of work!

Glad you enjoyed it! We all were happy to see a great ending and it’s super illustrative of how strong these little guys actually are. It’s a tough life they have.

Added Comments. Can anyone Seeing this Play Out? Conceptualize what this Scene would've been Like, In The 1800's when Bison 🦬🦬🦬 Roamed the Continent by the multi Million's, and the Numbers of Calf's that would have Perished? While Crossing the Yellowstone, or the Huge Missouri during Spring Run Off, or the Heavy Rains. OMG 😱 😳 now that Would have been Really Tragic, and just Heart Breaking to Even See Once? Let Alone Every year, after year Like Clock ⌚⏰ Work.

@robertwaid3579 you know the other thing I see from time to time in big herds is that the yearlings trample a calf now and then. They don't mean to but those are big animals out running.

The adults seemed to keep the last two calves in the middle of the river instead of walking to the shore. Grizzlies should have no problem to cross the river.

You are right - I think the current was too strong and they kept trying for sandbars to stand on. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Odd to see how much more detached these bison mums and herd are compared to elephants in a similar situation.

Can you imagine... I have thought it would be fun to rent a really good bigfoot costume and wait by the side of the road. My fear is there would be a bear and it would attack me.
