I got surrounded by a herd of bison in the Wachita National Wildlife Refuge in southwest Oklahoma once. Like the one in this video, an all-ages group, but the calves were much younger and still that pretty golden-rust color. The herd surrounded my car and then just stopped right there on the road. I put my car into Park for the next 15 or so minutes and enjoyed the live close-ups until they decided to move on. Best part was that I had five of my 8th grade students with me in the car, and we were to be camping in the park for the next several days. Every morning, we all had to wait til the Buffalo moved on out of our campsite before heading for the bathrooms. My chaperones and I didn't worry about kids sneaking in to different tents, because the Buffalo came in and bedded down to sleep each night, surrounding us. The Buffalo made interesting snorting sounds and grunts in their sleep, and some even were snoring!

I grew up in suburban California, and it was common to see animals that clearly weighed more than I did. These animals knew who was boss: them. The bucks had antlers that could easily break every bone in my body. There were also bobcats and a few local mountain lions. They LOOK like house cats; they MOVE like house cats; but they are NOT house cats. If you ever meet a wild cat in the hills - just back away slowly. That’s what I did, and now I am an old man (whew!).

As a South African, i enjoy videos posted here bcos its good to see how others in this world experience life. I like reading and enjoying the comments, and so its very odd to observe the intolerance here at times. That doesn't happen here. And yet we r so diverse here, u could possibly expect it. I'm beginning to see that South Africans r a lot more genial towards each other and a lot more accepting of each other.
