I was working on this 50 years ago when I was ten. My dad was abig Mickey Mantle fan growing up in bklyn in the 50s. So he taught me to swich hit in 1964 when i was 5. To this day im still a switch hitter, but i started throwing righty too. Around 1970 on little league i was almost good enough to throw both ways, outfield to home plate on a fly, but i gave up on it when it started hurting my right shoulder really bad. You have to do this from a really early age. Now im 62 and play golf, lefty and righty. You should see my golf bag, half lefty, half righty. Never get stuck by a tree, lol

I’m ambidextrous also. Played varsity baseball at BHS in Bayonne NJ just outside NYC in 1966. Played centerfield lefty in HS and shortstop righty in lower leagues. Made all metropolitan NJ/NYC all star team as an outfielder in ‘66. Had to switch gloves back then.

I too am ambidextrous. When i was in Little League, I played catcher as a righty, and 1st base as a lefty. This was in the 60's. Had one coach saw my potential as a pitcher, but no one had time to help me develop that talent. Oh well.

I think in the 1950s, a Little League team from Monterrey Mexico went to the LL World Series and they had a pitcher who pitched both ways. The story was made into a movie, called "The Littlest Angel (?), but haven't been able to ever find it. . He'd put his hands behind his back and the batter did not know which way the ball was coming at him.

Does bring up the question though, what are the rules for gloves? How big can the be? In tennis they have gone through all sorts of weird racquet shapes over the years, I think finally settling on the shape is up to the player but the total surface area of the strings can only be so large.

There was switch pitchers in the late 1800s in MLB. hands: Tony Mullane in 1890 and in 1893, Elton Chamberlain in 1891, Larry Corcoran in 1884, and George Wheeler.

I’ve tried switch pitching before, the hardest things to do is first to get a feel of the ball with both hands, then take on muscle build up with both arms. Also yes it is hard to get a feel for the ball on both sides even if you are ambidextrous, unless you have two gloves you are still restricted to throwing with one hand in baseball, and throwing a baseball is the only way that you are ever going to a feel for the ball.

I played with a guy who pitched both ways and would relieve himself . I was his catcher for 1 season . We played in an unaffiliated league . He was a natural left hander with a fast ball around 92 and when he threw righty he was in the upper 80s

I want that glove. I taught myself to throw left-handed but have never dared to try it while playing. The only time I HAD to throw lefty was when I filled in for someone during a softball game but didn't have my glove. The only spare they had I had to wear on my right hand. I actually did get to throw it left-handed once in the game but I don't think anyone else noticed that I did it 🤣
