Spectacular performance, appropriate French playfulness in the second movement. Plus the adorable violist at 10:45 with her pizzicato.

fantastic performance... though I wish the person who edited this focused less on shots of each person and more of the group together. often when the camera is on one person, they don't even have the important part

Beautiful performance, so passionate and present. I'd like to say something about the videographer. They seem to be taken by surprised every time someone has a major solo. Do they know the score at all?

slow zooming and all that . it's the camera guy and editor who fancy themselves artists, and doing interesting things. unnecessary.
@IndyRecords-Thor4 ай бұрын
it's the editing that's really bad. the cello has the important part and the camera's on the violins, then the 2nd violin has the interest and the camera switches to the violist etc. Distracting.

but Debussy isn't romantic, it's 100% pure constructivism.
@g3mck1206 жыл бұрын
When asked about his compositional method, Debussy is said to have replied "I take all the notes that there are, leave out the ones that don't fit, and write down the remaining ones." That's a subtractive method, not a constructive one. Impeccable ensemble playing in the performance. I prefer a more ethereal atmosphere in the early movements, but the enthusiastic interpretation is totally right for the last movement.
@freasy1236 жыл бұрын
Thank you, that's interesting and I've learned something new. I would still call this a constructive method, instead of other motivations such as mood or feelings, romantic expression and so on. Today, many people who use a DAW/MIDI software work in a similar way. When you look at the notes of a Debussy composition in a MIDI program, you can see how patterns are rather constructed in a way that reminds me of drawings from constructive painters.

All Your critics don't matter . just listen to the music - that's southern France und it's Storms during Spring - Mistral and so on - Light, Lavender, Smell, Colours - truly a jubilee to life

Wikipedia says: "[..] he was one of the most prominent figures associated with Impressionist music, although Debussy disliked the term when applied to his compositions." Debussy is also known to have influenced constructivism composers like Bartok a lot. "[..] his use of non-traditional scales and chromaticism influenced many composers who followed". Not even the scales are romantic.
@freasy1236 жыл бұрын
Debussy hated the word 'Impressionism' and said: "It's a swearword. What certain morons call 'impressionistic' that on the contrary is the réalité !" (CHRISTIAN BERGER, "Debussy und die Französische Musik um 1900", page 4)
