You can see why they won. I loved the sense of tension and surprise that they created almost immediately, and how incredibly well matched their sounds is as a group.

Beautiful playing. I liked the way they looked at each other (particularly the end stations) and made such a balanced sound. I liked the violist's old-fashioned gown and the violist in it. Beethoven!

The Dover Quartet does an AMAZING job on this piece. no wonder they took the prize! Cameraman does not know this piece of music or how to keep the shot on the primary player in a passage. You'd think the ensemble consists of the 1st violin and viola. Incredibly annoying! @Banff Centre I hope you have addressed this for later filmings.

Very, very, very good! But I pray for one (1) fixed camera showing the whole ensemble. Here the player in focus appears to be chosen at complete random, utterly disregarding what "happens" in the score.
@MrFpam9 жыл бұрын
@105343080350451172331 Not quite true, although i agree a fixed camera would be better. There is a tendency for the camera to linger on the beautiful violist, not always at the right time.

I agree. And this is quite widespread in classical music videos. Unfortunately the ability to work a camera does not always go hand-in-hand with the ability to follow a complex piece of music. Filmmakers should be more knowledgeable about the subjects they are attempting to capture. We expect no less from crews filming sports events and we deserve an equal amount of knowledge about the subject matter when it comes to serious music. At the very least they should be open-minded enough to ask for input from the musicians.

Wow. The first violinist is great, but did the camera really have to be on him 99% of the time? There were other people playing.
@telephilia6 жыл бұрын
Pre-Haydn the string quartet was essentially the first violin with accompaniment. But since then, one the string quartet genre's greatest strengths is the equality of all four voices.

Si je ne me trompe pas , le mouvement 2 est marqué par Beethoven molto adagio ; c est donc un non-sens de l interpréter ainsi.

What piece is this? It is a great piece of music. Very nicely put together. Is it Beethoven? Seems mostly like Beethoven but not quite as rich. Is it Mendellsohn?

@MrFpam9 жыл бұрын
intervalkid It is clearly stated more than once at the heading of the video. Beethoven String Quartet in E minor, Op.59, No.2. Mendelssohn was influenced by Beethoven's quartets.
@intervalkid9 жыл бұрын
It is not clearly stated more than once at the heading of the video. It is half visibly listed at the top for 2 seconds and IF you put your mouse overtop the video. The most I can see is Dover Quartet Beeth... Which IS enough to answer my question about the composer but not enough to know the piece. I understand that Mendellsohn is heavily influenced by Beethoven, that is obvious. You may wish to be snide in which case I will write you off as a fake. Due to the fact that I am an innovative and known music theorist and composer.
@MrFpam9 жыл бұрын
+intervalkid Perhaps you have a problem with your computer. Immediately under the video it states in large print BISQC 2013 - The Dover Quartet- Beethoven Quartet in E minor. You have twice spelt Mendelssohn incorrectly. Nothing in my comment could be regarded as snide and writing me off as a fake is a silly and meaningless threat. You regard yourself highly as a known music theorist and composer, but you did not know this very well known quartet by Beethoven, so perhaps it is you who is the fake.
