I made this a week ago. I halved the recipe (not knowing if I would really use it). Well, I wish I had made the full amount! Perfect for cobblers, fruit shortcakes, etc. A real timesaver!

I consider myself as having on open mind, so if I ever get a chance to try a cobbler or shortcake with Sloppy Joe mix, I will give it a try!

Thanks so much Terri! I will be making the bisquick clone this week. I used to use Bisquick all the time, but have missed it since coming to Ecuador.

Thanks Terri--If you just want to use bisquick--Can you skip the 1st part of making your own mix?--For this recipe then what would you add to the bisquick to pour over the pie?
@catscratchkitchenАй бұрын
Yes, you can skip the first part. Then just follow the recipe for the pie. The link to the recipe is in the description.

It looks so delicious, I have to make this recipe. Thanks for sharing! Where can I buy powdered milk and vegetable shortening in Cuenca please?
@catscratchkitchen2 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you liked this recipe! Powdered milk and vegetable shortening are available both in large groceries like SuperMaxi as well as local tiendas. You will find powdered milk with the other shelf stable milks, in bags labeled "Leche en Polvo". Lots of brands to choose from Vegetable shortening is in plastic tubs or bowls and will say "Manteca vegetal" somewhere on the label. A couple of brands I have used are Las Sambrosa and Los 3 Chanchitos (which regardless of the name is actually manteca vegetal). I hope this helps you. Rest assured all the recipes I post can be sourced locally.

Is it possible to use lard in this instead of shortening? Will it keep as well on the shelf? Shortening has gotten more pricey as of late. 🤔Plus I prefer natural animal fats if I can. I also wonder if purified rendered tallow would work as well. I have lots of that but I keep it in the fridge. I would ask if coconut oil would work but I am guessing it might have too low a melting point to hold up in this mix if it gets warm at all. But, Just curious.

Yes, you can use lard instead. Under certain circumstances, you can store lard on the countertop or in the pantry. Make sure that lard is in an airtight, tightly sealed container to protect from external moisture and in a cool, dark place. Make sure that the temperature stays below 75 degrees Fahrenheit. If your home regularly climbs above room temperature, you may want to refrigerate your lard instead. Also, mice may be attracted to lard if your container isn’t correctly sealed. If you have a rodent problem in your house, you may want to refrigerate lard. Does Lard Need To Be Refrigerated? Lard doesn’t necessarily have to be refrigerated, but it’s helpful if you live in a warmer climate or if you have a rodent problem. Here’s how to store your Lard in the fridge: Seal your Lard tightly in an airtight container. Store Lard in the fridge and only remove the container when you’re ready to use the Lard to keep the Lard’s temperature consistent. All in all, storing your Lard properly is essential to maintaining its quality. If you notice any odd smells, colors, or moldy appearances coming from your Lard, it’s time to throw it out.
