Charlie Shrem, 33, was born in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of the Yeshiva of Flatbush high school, Shrem founded the now-defunct BitInstant, and is a founding member of the Bitcoin Foundation. He is also a federal ex-con.
According to a 2019 New York Post article based on a then-new book by Ben Mezrich, when Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss attended a 2012 meeting about Bitcoin, they were expecting a professional introduction to a business opportunity in cryptocurrency. Instead, they got, as the Post put it: "...a 22-year-old Orthodox Jewish stoner living in his parents’ Brooklyn basement. Charlie Shrem was the founder of BitInstant, one of the first firms to buy Bitcoin for clients. In his Midtown office, with weed paraphernalia on every shelf, he kept three bongs on his desk - and was toking from one as he met the millionaires. “Welcome to the ‘Bakery,’ gentlemen,” said Shrem."
On January 26, 2014, on returning from an e-commerce convention, Shrem was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Prosecutors alleged that Shrem and Robert Faiella conspired to launder $1 million worth of bitcoins to help users of the Silk Road darknet marketplace anonymously make illegal purchases. Shrem was also charged with failing to report suspicious banking activity and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business. Two days later, Shrem was released on $1 million bail, which included electronic monitoring, and a requirement that Shrem live with his parents. It was back to the basement for Shrem.
On April 10, 2014, Shrem was indicted on accusations of "operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, money laundering conspiracy and willfully failing to file suspicious activity reports with banking authorities." On September 4, 2014, Shrem pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aiding and abetting unlicensed money transmission. On December 19, 2014, Shrem was convicted ordered to forfeit $950,000, and sentenced to two years in prison. He surrendered to authorities on March 30, 2015, and subsequently entered Lewisburg Federal Prison Camp in Pennsylvania. He was released from prison on September 16, 2016.
According to Wikipedia - which lists the wrong release date for Shrem's prison stint - in September 2018, the Winklevoss twins sued Shrem for $32 million, claiming that he stole thousands of bitcoins from them in 2012. An affidavit filed in that case suggested that the $950,000 restitution required in Shrem's 2014 conviction had not been paid. In 2019, a judge overturned an order freezing $32 million of Shrem's assets, ordered the Winklevoss twins to pay Shrem's legal fees, and the case was dismissed.
In 2017, Shrem joined Jaxx and served as its chief operating officer, subsequently founding the cryptocurrency advisory firm CryptoIQ.
An impressive post-prison turnaround... but why hasn't he registered his car?

To be successful in markets, traders should understand the crossover between asset classes & liquidity flow. Maryjane Davies focuses on Multi-asset trading, a single strategy to manage risk, profit, and the code or the actual decision-making across multi-asset classes. Her skills set is top notch.

As a first time investor i started trading with Mrs. Maryjane Davies with just a thousand bucks. My portfolio is worth much more than that now within just weeks of trading with her.

I love that we thank officers for taking money and time from us. So funny. And the fact of what ifs should never come into play. We could what if anything and everything. What if you’re on your phone and you wreck. Well then we have a wreck. But I didn’t wreck so it’s not a big deal

Texting while driving def deserves a ticket... but if only the cop knew that changing lanes over a solid white line is not illegal (which is likely why it was only a "warning" ). I tried citing sources that prove this, but my comment got deleted, so you'll have to do your own research. ;)

Sorry you are wrong, you can only cross a solid white line to avoid hazardous conditions within your lane. This is true in all states. Florida also uses a double solid white line. I have been a professional driver for over 20 years and it's only broken lines where it's legal to change lanes

@@davidweaver2156 YOU are wrong. Sorry. DOUBLE solid white line has nothing to do with a single solid white line. ;) I truly hoped you would actually do some simple research to confirm... but apparently that was too much to ask. I was a Police Officer for 20 years - not in Florida, but all states abide by the same guidelines in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) - and, in my state, there isn't even a traffic law that addresses solid white lines at all (and I couldn't find one for Florida). The Florida Driver Handbook does say that solid white lines shouldn't be crossed except for hazards, but I could find no law to back that up - it kinda just goes along with the indication in the MUTCD that solid white lines are to be used to "discourage" lane changes, not prohibit them. There are some things that are indicated in my state's Driver's Manual but they aren't enforceable because there is no statute that corresponds to those indications, so they are merely suggestions. (I hope this comment doesn't get deleted for this, but... see article "SOME FLORIDA TRAFFIC LAWS PUZZLE NEWCOMERS" (it's older but still relevant) and "What's Driving You Crazy: The rules of solid white lines on city streets, interstates" (it's Colorado but indicates it pertains to ALL states).) If you can find an actual Florida statute to back up your assertion, please provide it. I could find nothing, and Florida law (not just what is in a handbook) on solid white lines should align with the MUTCD, which is universally adhered to on most subjects.

@@davidweaver2156 In the MUTCD, you'll find this several times: "1. A wide solid double white lane line where crossing is prohibited. 2. A wide solid single white lane line where crossing is discouraged. 3. A wide broken single white lane line where crossing is permitted." and you'll find: "A STAY IN LANE (R4-9) sign (see Figure 2B-10) may be used on multi-lane highways to direct road users to stay in their lane until conditions permit shifting to another lane. Guidance: If a STAY IN LANE sign is used, it should be accompanied by a solid double white lane line(s) to prohibit lane changing."
