Here is the catch 22....the more bitcoin gains in price, the less likely it will be used as a payment system (you wont spend it if it is quickly appreciating), which is the whole basis of the argument for its adoption as a store of value. So, for it to be used as a stable payment system, its price needs to stop rising, in which case owners will cash out and then price will plummet. Bitcoin is a tulip.
@n.s.30075 ай бұрын
Gold? Do people go out to the stores and drop their nuggets of gold on the counter to pay for things? Nope, yet gold is still a store of value. You are on the wrong side of your own argument.
@68008915 ай бұрын
@@n.s.3007 I never mentioned gold. I used the term "payment system" as this is the stated purpose for which block chain technology was created. I was simply pointing out that bitcoin, or any asset, that fluctuates wildly in price will never be adopted as a payment system.
@TKayCO5 ай бұрын
Bitcoin is used to buy billions of dollars of things every day. Mainly other crypto’s. That is a very important function currently though.
@n.s.30075 ай бұрын
@@TKayCO gold was used to purchase many things as well in its 'beginning days of value'. Before gold became a store of value, it was used as money the way we know it today. Just like bitcoin now, as it is at its beginning stages. Now it is being used to purchase things too. Once it becomes too high of value, it will mainly be used as a store of value. Only real difference then to gold will be that transactions will be infinately more easy to do with bitcoin compared to gold.
@StephenCurran-ho3lu2 ай бұрын
Why would any BTC owner cash out of something that is quickly appreciating,? smh If you mean that higher fees to pay for cheaper items will get too high to justify buying it, then yeah, that's a decent point, but I think the more this becomes true, the more the Lightning Network and/or Liquid Network will be adopted, not to mention any other unforeseen innovations in the meantime.

Fred is wrong about fiat currencies, IMO. Bitcoin will not replace fiat, but it will be the asset to store wealth, like gold is today. You use fiat in your nation states for everyday transactions, but then you store your excess labor / energy in an asset that does not inflate away. Currently, we store our saved labor in fiat and fiat derivatives which is purposefully inflated away at 2-10% in the USA and much higher in other countries. Most of us rush into stocks, real estate, gold, rare coins / art etc, to protect against this theft of inflation by buying hard and limited assets. Btc will be the king of the hard assets and because of the nature of how it operates in the digital sphere, it will be available to most people on the planet. In Turkey, or Lebanon, people save in gold and spend in Lira and the Lebanese pound, yet the government has not outlawed gold. This will compliment fiat currencies and pose no threat to the currencies of nation states.

Does Bitcoin worry about the new quantum computers which possibly could break the blockchain

The miners will implement the latest quantum computing tech, believe me. They have the money to. They print money. The centralized banking system is at much greater risk of attack by quantum computing.
