I had no clue what you were doing until the very end and a google search for "Seed Phrase" :-) But your split unit install was so good and the fact that I like Jigs, I watched anyway. What a great idea. And you can use that keyphrase as a weapon too 🙂 Just put it in a sock or tight in your fist. Thanks.

really cool idea man. like you mentioned these would probably rust away in water which could be a real concern after what we saw in the hurricanes that hit north carolina and the vast amount of debris which could take days or weeks to sift through before finding your seed phrase. assuming you had a decent amount of wealth in your wallet, you may also want to protect against this by covering your washers and bolt in thick grease and protected in a plastic water proof container of some sort. or if you have real wealth on there, stamp your seed phrase to gold coins or washers which would never rust in a million years.

For sure, lots of options here. They are stainless so rust should be minimal, but yeah it's possible depending on the grade (these are 304). If you're worried about that, I guess you could suspend them in a container and pour epoxy around em to encapsulate. My issue with gold is that it's soft

@@redbeardengineered great point on the gold being soft. your idea of encasing the washers in something like clear epoxy or resin is genius i cant believe i didnt think of that.

How about double sided? First and last word single sided, facing inward, instead of extra washers. Then you get a 24-word seed on 13 washers instead of 24 or 26.

also, how do you like the laser engraver and how reliable has it been for you? ive been wanting something like that for ages.

Well it depends on what you want to do... Fiber lasers are good for metal and Diode lasers are good for more natural materials. Check out my other channel "Red Beard Ops" for a few laser reviews.

Cool. Can someone help me out though? Does each washer have a word on it? Just don't know much about it.

Hey Carl, each washer will have a number and a word from the BIP-39 world list.

@@carlk1183 The 12 or 24 word seed phrase can be used to derive your bitcoin private key. The words and the order of the words matter.

This is cool and all, but you don't need any such jig. All you need are the washers, a hammer, and the punches. You just line up the lettering by eyeball, it's not difficult at all.

Asking as a total bumpkin here, is this a way to create a hard copy of a crypto password?

Hey Steve, When setting up a hardware device (wallet) for custody-ing your Bitcoin (or other crypto), you will be walked though a process that results in you having a 12-24 word seed written down. This seed phrase is the "backup" to your device in case it's stolen or destroyed. Once you have your device set up and seed phrase secured in a different location, you can "move" your cryptocurrency to the device (in regality the crypto never moves... just the ownership/keys). It is for this seed I spoke of above that I made this video; however, you can use the same method to record and store any type of password or passphrase.
