They have to be insanely powerful because they're out to completely overpower and kill their prey. The fact that it hurts humans so bad means it's guaranteed death for the creatures that it hunts and eats. The most painful sting of my life was administered by a small assassin bug in central Argentina. It was black with a yellow spot on its back, and came to lights in fair numbers. Only about 12 mm long, so not one of the larger species. Unlike the larger species, which often are quite phlegmatic (like this red species), this thing drilled me in the thumb the instant I picked it up, and it felt like a railroad spike dipped in acid. It was shockingly painful, far worse than a hornet or bee sting. Most of my thumb was discolored, and the discoloration lasted for a month. By the way, it was not the "vinchuca," the larger conenose assassin bug that spreads Chagas-Mazza. So if you're ever in Argentina, beware of these little guys! They're found in pampas, not in rainforest, so I suspect they are not as well known as iconic rainforest stingers like the bullet ant.

We've had a bit of an explosion of kissing bugs in Southern PA these last two years and they are very good at finding their way inside buildings, particularly during winter. Prior to their arrival, we had a spike in Wheelbugs after the introduction of the stink bug. I have seen them attacking the newly established Lanternflies, as well. Having been bit by wheel bugs, I can say it is potentially dangerous, as well. The sharp pain lasts for a few minutes but you will get a very aggressive immune response that will cause a throbbing welt that can last for weeks. My arm swelled up so much I had restricted movement in my elbow for a few days.

The most known vector of Chagas disease here in Brazil is the Barbeiro. It is more commonly found in wattle-and-daub houses and is a blood-sucking insect. The transmission is quite disgusting, as the bug defecates near the bite site, and scratching can sometimes spread the feces with the protozoan that causes the disease in the wound.

The assassin bugs I get on my plants though never get to the size of the assassin bug in this video haha. Oh also their egg sacks look like honeycombs, if you ever spot them on your plants in your garden, look up assassin bug egg clutches and verify them and if they're assassin bug eggs leave them be, once they start hatching they're really cute and small and will hunt down aphids and whatnot and are great beneficial insects to have in your garden! Every clutch of eggs I've found on my plants from assassin bugs were on the undersides of the leaves. I get them every year and they do wonders protecting my plants! Is there a webpage or any other place online where the BSI can be found? As a list or official ranking that is continuously updated. if there isn't, there should be or y'all should be working on that.

The really bright colors looked nice, but I know it doesn't always mean it nice. I can't believe the strips on its legs. They were something different. I really could not get over the second bite. It was really longer than I expected. I really did see it have a hold of your skin when you pulled it away. I'm really glad your blood test came out pretty good. That was such a relief for me too. With the fact that they would fly and bite unexpectedly, without any warning is crazy. I can imagine them doing this to others who are not even disturbing them.
