I was guilty of bullying when I played football in high school, but I'm a changed man now and I don't pick on the nerds or the weak because that will only lead to Columbine and Virginia Tech type incidents. We alpha males need to protect the weak. It's not good enough just to be narcissistic and focus on getting money and girls, we need to look out for these guys and not drive them over the edge.

There's a reason it's a trope: That's fairly common. When you're social pariah -- especially due mental health struggles/behaviorial issues/rumors, you don't have a lot of friends. There's usually one or two people at max who are willing to look past that -- usually outcasts like you. This often leads to trauma bonding, a sense of comradery/loyalty, and situations like the one described in the video -- conveniently allowing for characters to form close connections quickly. Also, the pushback from others and/or personal struggles (because people who are socially outcasted are usually treated poorly and may have ended up that way due to mental health struggles, lack of confidence, bullying, etc...) sets the stage for action-packed plot. This trope consists of common human behavior in a somewhat uncommon situation that is also plot conveinient -- which is why so many stories include it. I'm not really arguing anything, for the record. I just find these things interesting.

Yeah, schools have no ideas on how to handle bullies. My school used to accept kids that had notorious pasts for bullying and harassing at other schools- to the point where the past school had actually kicked those kids out. I had to stand up to one of those notorious kids and it was damn scary (the kid I faced up was 6ft, I'm 5'1). But despite the fact that I got in trouble for 'harming' a student by standing up for my friend who was getting thrown slurs at, this kid did not get punished. It was only until my friend said that she wanted to kill herself because of this kid that the school actually took action. And that action wasn't removing or punishing the kid, it was to make us 'talk out the problem.' I wanted to punch the Headmaster right in her ugly mug.

That's probably why the principal didn't call your mom. He probably knew his ruling wouldn't sit well with her, and he was counting on you to be too scared/relieved to not be in trouble to speak up. A lot of teachers/school admin are spineless like that, they'd rather hush up a problem than do the hard work of fixing it. Good on middle school you for having the guts to speak up, and good on your mom for responding appropriately.

When we were both in the principals office my mom and dad were brought in and flat out threatened to sue the school AND district for allow me to be tormented. Said bully was switched to a different class schedule from me entirely and the teachers took my cries for help much more seriously. And then in High School another bully threatened to kill my animals and broke a window at our house. We pressed charges, got a restraining order and despite his friends trying to get me and my parents to back down it stuck.

I had that happen to me in one of my old schools and I swear to God the principal was TRYING to make me terrified, he looked absolutely down right like he was about to hit me, he looked SO angry and I mean REALLY angry, I didn't even do anything wrong I was just out of my seat when class was going, thankfully my parents ripped the piss out of him when I finally told them how bad I was getting bullied in school, it only had to take me being stabbed five or four times with a pencil by some random kid to get me to spit out what was happening to me to my parents and it is absolutely true that they are spineless when they face two parents who were practically Spitting Fire at their face, luckily I don't go to that school anymore I go to a much better School District and have some very good friends It was mostly my mother who tore his head off, trust me when I say you don't want to fuck with my mom when any of her kids get messed with, I've seen her go full on Banshee mode with a dude who opened our car door to yell at me to move the car while she was in the store, I was like 10 or 12 at the time so I couldn't drive the car, my aunt was on the phone with me at that time and she was freaking out

I have never been bullied but some of my friends have been bullied for as long as I have known them. One time, for example, we were standing in our school hallway when one of “the popular guys” walked up to my friend, pushed him over so he fell on the ground and just started laughing at and insulting him, too which I of course tried to help my friend. I went to take my friends hand to help him up but accidentally touched the guy and this dude flipped out and full on punched my head into the wall and cussed me out. What did the school do? They briefly scolded the guy and told my friend and I to just “leave him alone”. The dude is now lucky in another part of the school we’re in now.

I had my trouble with bullies myself. I finally stood up for myself, and got a 3 day suspension. At the time, the staff at the school were coming after me too. One of them tried to get me in trouble with my parents because I wore a sweater twice in the same week. They were very upset when my mom basically said "she's clean, her clothes get washed weekly, she's healthy, she took her meds, she's fed, she's at school. I was told to pick my battles." so then they tried calling my dad, and were frustrated when he basically said the same thing. Sometimes adults are just as immature as the kids
