Ok fellow Bitiwg users, I suggest we all contact Bitwig to get Placidus (their CEO) to outline exactly what the future is. There was never a mention of paid add-on’s being introduced when we were buying our licences and renewals. These add-on’s feel like exactly the sort of thing that should of been included under the renewals. They’ve stated that this is the first add-on, suggesting this will be the norm now. They either need to reverse this decision, or outline exactly what the product development pipeline looks like for the coming years with regard to paid add-ons or core product improvements. Let’s not let this rest, is very concerning and feels like profiteering to me

I agree with what's been written here. Everybody should e-mail Bitwig and express your concerns about this. Innovation has taken Bitwig really far, greed can change that fast. Bitwig is expensive as is, and I believe most people as well as me think it's worth it because of the pace of development going on. Most of us are probably not professional musicians that make a lot of money from our music. Bitwig should really be careful about how they proceed in the future.

I agree on Bug fixes. They rolled out one that was free atleast. On pirated copies of Bitwig you get a very loud morse code message aslimg u to buy the product. Which is hilarious. They had a 3.X update (forgot which one) that made my Studio version play that until one random update they did like 2 weeks later; where it fixed the issue for me. But bug fixes shluld always be free. New features I kinda get; they are a business after all. But not bugs.

With such a small dev team, this means that they're wasting time developing paid addons and thus it means there is less developing time for regular updates (for which we all pay for in our update plan). So not only are 'premium' devices no longer included in the update plan, a lot of developing time gets taken away from us so they can create these 'premium' devices. So in the end we still get less for the same amount of money and if we want more we need to pay extra. I guess I will no longer be renewing my update plan and by reading all comments here it looks I will not be the only one. Let's see how well their greed plays out for them, when many people just stop the payments.

Similar thing happened with Propellerheads and Reason... they spent an increasing amount of time on RE's ('Reason Extensions') that weren't included with updates and which (like Spectral Suite) couldn't be used in other DAWs. Meanwhile, Reason itself suffered and fell far behind, so you had a split between users seeing no point in spending $150 on a Reason 'upgrade' that was essentially bugfixes and maybe one or two mediocre RE's included, and users (like me) who switched to a DAW with modern production capabilities and could run VSTs in a stable way. Spectral Suite does look pretty great, but frankly I'll be spending my limited funds on a VST version that I can also run in Reaper or other DAWs in the future.

If these new devices had become available in the mainline subscription, the user community would I think be thrilled with yet another wonderful Bitwig innovation. They would also feel, I think, even if they didn't get their personal most-wanted request implemented this-time-around, that Bitwig was nevertheless providing very good value for the (fairly high) ongoing subscription fee. IOW, by simply continuing on the line of their successes so far, Bitwig could have retained a unified, satisfied user base happy to continue their path of creation with the software and their endorsement and financial support of the company. Instead, with this decision to stop supplying top-level creative development in the mainline subscription, Bitwig chooses to a) create a user base that can no longer count on being able to cross-load each others projects, b) to create a great deal of new, unnecessary dis-satisfaction with the value being returned for the price of the mainline subscription, and c) to actually cause a portion of their former user base to decide to deprecate or even totally leave the platform. Supporters become detractors, just like that! And the wound is entirely self-inflicted. It would not surprise me at all if the lost revenue from jilted customers leaving far exceeds the gained revenue from selling these devices separately. I suggest an immediate U-turn. (The first rule of holes: Stop digging!)

So, in a similar thought to the others, fantastic set of effects to be adding. Feels a bit strange for it to be separate of the overall bitwig platform yearly renewal plan as these are plugins/effects that are tied to only work with bitwig. If your product being offered here was modular to be used on lets say as a VST/AU or even standalone, then these packs might make more sense at the cost being asked (like when the cost of a set of 4 plugins is a quarter of the entire platform and can only be used on that platform.....). It is unfortunate to see what was a really connected development group with the community to make an interesting business decision like this. I hope this goes well for you as a company, but it does appear to be a move that makes the population of users have hesistance to continue with their renewal cost being unclear as to how it is applied for the licensing features.

That was a bad decision. Such updates should be included in the already expensive subscription.😕

Have deleted Bitwig and asked for my money back for a recent annual renewal (not really expecting to get it but there you go). Returning to Ableton.

Ok as a monthly payment of Bitwig over Splice... There was a promise that Every update, thus should be 4.3.9 - free! This is breaking that promise...This reminds me of bad Propellerhead (Reason Studio) practice. I have buyed version 11 and then for month did come update with HI res (normal to people in this century) interface. The update was NOT free. How bad is that... They have lost many loyal customers... I don't know why others crave to go that same path...

I'm so glad this has had a reasonable resolution. Thanks for listening to us, and I renewed my sub early so hopefully the business people over there will get it too ;)

So the yearly update plan is just for bug fixes and simple devices now? All the cool additions will be behind a paywall? Makes me want to go back to FL studio again....

This is insane. Incredible devices.

Thank you, Bitwig, for making this right: "Spectral Suite is now part of Bitwig Studio 4.4, which has an official release date of October 5, 2022. Anyone with a current Upgrade Plan now owns Bitwig Studio 4.4 and the four Spectral Suite devices. We will contact everyone who purchased Spectral Suite to offer a choice of a refund or an extension of their Upgrade Plan. Moving forward, all of our Bitwig Studio feature development, including devices, will be covered by the 12-month Upgrade Plan. Your support of Bitwig Studio (and us) means more than we can say. Thank you."

Why are you thanking them? They buckled to social pressure when attempting to extort their user base? You sound like a simp.

I have paid for bugfixes and features that users ask for years but not for time your coders waste on paid addons.

And I thought Full License meant Full. What is this pay-extra deal about???

Alright, I'll continue my splice plan. Thank you Bitwig team for listening!

Great job adding it to the renew plan 👌👌👌👌

Seems the guys at Bitwig now changed their minds and made the Spectral Suite official part of Bitwig 4.4 now - I just got an email. Also all future updates AND devices are part of their 12-month upgrade plan they promise. :)

Is it’s back to Ableton time
@nicolasjulliard70392 жыл бұрын
Release these as VSTs that can be used in other DAWs. That’s the only way you could justify the price.
@stephenroldan51072 жыл бұрын
Traktion does that
@Teckstudio2 жыл бұрын
My thought! This one should be - of course - included (for free) in Bitwig Studio AND be sold to other DAW users as an VST. That way you generate new customers and don't scare away your already paying fan boys (like me). 😣
@Skyverb2 жыл бұрын
@@bassc Not only that, I feel lile all Daws should become plugins. I don't use FL studio; but ALOT of my friends do. So for collabs it's super usful to load FL as a vst in Bitwig and load their FL project file inside. Plus it got me to purchase FL which I never would have otherwise. Companies are losing free money for them XD

Subscription fees or add ons. Pick one but not both. Don't double dip on your customer base or soon you won't have one.

It is also a shame that no one from Bitwig is responding to this, just wow, they don't even care! Which makes this situation even worse!

I love bitwig studio so i'm buying update plan, but bitwig, WTF give me my money back if you don't give new features within this what i paid for. What is the reason to buy your update plans?

Hey all I just sent an email to Bitwig's sales, and I beg you all to do the same. Only by expressing our disappointment about this new "add-on" model can we have any hope of making a difference... Thanks!

I did too. Bitwig need to know that this is a really bad and greedy move.

This is a Mal Paso Bitwig. You may come to regret this step. Bitwig Studio was already expensive, now you've made the pricing situation even worse. Is the company in trouble? Cash flow problems ? I've seen a Lot of adverts encouraging Update Plan purchases prior to this announcement.

Sounds like some awesome devices to have in your arsenal but I really can’t understand this new way to distribute new devices to users who already are paying every year to get your lates innovations. I really love Bitwig it is one of the most innovative DAW’s out there and since I adopted it I have been recommending it all I now making music. Now I’m probably gonna hold a bit back on that because this just seems really suspicious.

@emikaela2 жыл бұрын
well, i suppose it could be a useful option for some people to have add-ons that can be bought separately instead of subscribing to all updates. right now it seems that these are accidentally not included in the "future-proof" subscription, but surely that's an oversight that will be fixed any day now?
@guser71372 жыл бұрын
No that isn't the case. You have to be running a recent version of the product to use the add-ons.

in the same boat as you, everyone usually knows me as a bitwig shill on most socials i use, but seeing this, i fear that's at risk of changing, depending on how bitwig team handle add-ons/updates going forward...
