Thanks for this update. It’s nice to have more sound design options. However you guys from Bitwig should be more focused on community requests such as the small list that follows below: - MIDI comping - Capture listening MIDI (like Ableton) - Video suport - Scale highlight or scale lock, chords etc…. - Improve automations and midi editor - Allowing MIDI exports that don't have the entire project in them (e.g. a single clip) - Skin editor, dark mode for arrangement etc.. - Correct handling of sustain and other pedals in clips (apparently that one is on the road map, I asked). - Being able to export in different tracks each pad/instruments of the Drum Machine device - A good and simple freeze function - VariAudio type of editor I know that you guys from Bitwig are passionate about what you do. But you need to start looking more at what the community is asking for.

With you on this. The core functionality needs a lot of work. I've been seeing countless posts about this in the last year. As much as these new devices are fun and amazing there are more important quality of life things that deserve attention. Would love to see some of the following: When editing midi playback should start from cursor position (keyboard shortcut like command + space) Auto Monitor Audio Channel OFF by default - option to flick on if needed Shortcut for channel volume up or down Fix controls on the limiter in Bitwig - They are too resistant. Also can we get a gain knob on the limiter? Fix the feel of automation - Overall feel is pretty terrible in comparison to other DAW’s When using track height zoom Bitwig completely ignores the centering of your screen Btiwig often displays wrong centering when going into edit mode Delete Unused files at parent folder level - I almost deleted my entire session and a day worth of vocals that I recorded in Studio One that shared the same parent folder as Bitwig. Exclusive Arm MIDI Comping MIDI Capture Better audio comping features General UI/UX performance improvements (Frame rate, interactivity, devices lagging when DAW is under load) Remove numbers when bouncing stems (Ridiculous that Bitwig adds numbers to the front of stem track names)

I've used FL Studio off and on since 2003 and had no idea what MIDI-comping was until I migrated to Linux/Bitwig and saw a boatload of users demanding the feature. Apparently, I always just re-recorded MIDI tracks or edited them (or both). I had no idea MIDI-comping was in such high demand. Maybe my ignorance is massive and FL Studio always had this feature, but since I never used the feature to make music I think I'm going to still be satisfied with my migration to Linux, and by necessity: Bitwig. Now to be fair: I do think MIDI comping could be a future implemented in the "scenes" clips. That would make a lot of sense to me even though I only just now understand what MIDI-comping actually is. I have used Audio-comping all the time for guitar recording. I never considered it for MIDI since there are so many tricks to either get MIDI takes on easy-mode OR simply edit MIDI notes after the take. However, MIDI-comping would probably be embraced by me once I get a taste of the workflow. Could be worse, you could be demanding training wheels on your piano roll (aka scale-lock or whatever its called).

@@vroteg well some of the filter and shaper algorithms are new, and speaking for myself, having the interface makes all the difference. In my productions I mostly use the grid for experimental tinkering, not for my bread and butter effects. Then this will be a usable and efficient DAW. Thank you already. ❤️

Takes an additional 20 or so seconds if you know your scales, but you can put the scale tones you need in the midi clip pre-start portion of the clip (Bitwig shows you midi info before the clip start, though I think Ableton does too) and activate fold mode, which makes it that only notes which are in the clip are shown. Just put in the seven notes of your scale, duplicate it up/down a few octaves and you're good. And make sure the last note you deleted is relatively small, if it's long for any reason just make a short dummy note and delete it, that way when making your scale you don't have to zoom out. I suppose you could even treat it as a brief music theory refresher to reduce the mild tedium. Not the most elegant implementation in the world but for me it seems pretty okay, unless you like to quickly change scales I suppose.
@CyanideLovesong6 ай бұрын
I'm not negating your request, Y2JMasterLord, but have you ever tried Scaler 2? It's very much compatible with Bitwig -- just drop it before your synth in the FX list. You can choose (or have it detect) scales, and then you can lock the scale to midi notes. It's a good alternative that should help with your need here. It will at least block midi notes that aren't in the scale (or shift them until they are, if you prefer.) There's another mode that maps the scale to the white notes on a keyboard. That is also convenient. (But I like the 'block notes that aren't in scale' mode because you end up learning scales without even trying!)

it's kinda baffling how very few people mention grid lines in the comments, like SERIOUSLY. this is an audio/music software where the grid matters a lot more than, let's say a video editor like Adobe Premiere or Davinci Resolve where that kind of opaque clips are more acceptable 🤦♀️ i was so fed up with Ableton, looked for an alternative and really wanted Bitwig to be a worthy candidate. but if you're program has regressed to a point where people start to beg for a gridline you know something's not right ... sorry not making a switch anytime soon unless this is addressed structurally

I really don't get this gridline issue personally. Genuinely asking, could you explain the issue? midi clips has grid lines, the audio clips have gridlines (one of BW's major selling points: multiple audio files in one clip). What kind of work are you doing which necessitates grid lines outside the clip level?

I love Bitwig so much, but...! First of all - we need ready tools for creating music,not anyone wants to spend a time with grid by trying to build plugin that we could use in one simple view like in other DAWs or just 3rd party plugins. What i am waiting in next versions of Bitwig. - Vintage compressor(maybe different emulations) - mix knob for old compressor and dynamic plugin - multiband compressor (ott maybe) - dynamic EQ with sc - multiband distortion with different types of distortion at any band - Reverb + (with really good sound) - Shimmer reverb of shimmer mode for Reverb + - supermassive reverb like black hole of mode for Reverb+ - build-in unison for PHASE 4 - dark grey arranger view(main space with audio and midi clips) - reworked NEW browser - bunch of EDM ready fat kick and snares sound library - second oscillator for polymer and build-in unison - FM4 + (unison, ability to draw waveforms) - Granular synthesizer - pattern sequencer mode for key editor - FM oscillator for grid(polymer) that contains 4 operators in one module - fm modulation for Polysynth - NEW vintage synth with fat sound

Bitwig is a tool, and like any other tool, it is designed with its own philosophy and use cases in mind. Personally I think they hit a sweet spot between the ready-made and the nerdy, and many of the things you mention are really not that difficult to make with Bitwig modules and modulators... But in the end, 'we' are all different - is this the same 'we' you are talking about? 😉

Sorry I wasted 12 GB of bandwith downloading your demo. This software isn't for musicians, it's for non-musicians who want to create beats and edit clips. I couldn't get it to work with low-latency drivers either. Looks nice, doesn't perform at all.
@CyanideLovesong6 ай бұрын
Hey Jacques, sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience -- but that isn't the norm. Almost everyone using Bitwig uses it with low-latency ASIO drivers just like any other DAW... And it's not just for non-musicians or 'beat makers.' I do a lot of live recording in it because it has an excellent audio comping system. Audio editing is also pretty darn good in it. I would rank Reaper as more powerful in those regards, however Bitwig has a fun and creative feel that can be more enjoyable to work in. I did a couple of trials before I finally bought it, but I'm glad I did. (And I come from traditional DAWs like Sonar, Reaper, etc... But I'm also fluent in FL and familiar with Ableton. Bitwig strikes a sweet balance between 'traditional DAW' and modern. I recommend checking in with it every once in a while because it keeps getting better!)
