If it's a RWD Model S and not a dual motor.....be aware of the drive unit failures. I just sold my 2014 S last month and had 4 drive unit replacements over the years. The last one was out of warranty. They run coolant through the units and the seals within are a known issue. The last replacement was November of last year and they have a new, revised unit they are installing that bypasses the coolant through the unit. It's the "U" variant....U is in the part #. Good luck with your S....I loved mine. I'm replacing it with a M3P or a LR M3 as soon as rates come down to my liking!

You can get a NEMA 14-50 socket splitter and just plug it into your dryer outlet. The splitter will only allow one side to pull at once- if your dryer is on, it’s running the dryer; otherwise, it’s charging the Tesla. That’s what I would do, as a renter, and to me it pretty much makes the whole Level 2 charger “install” issue moot.

Good job. I can echo your experience. In April, I bid on, and bought a 2018 Model 3 with 54,000 miles for $7800 at a salvage vehicle auction. It had been wrecked in the front. Every damaged part was bolt on. Parts cost me another $4,000. My son, who is a Tesla expert, and I (unskilled) did the work. It is rear wheel drive and long range with the FSD option. Truly, it is a very nice car. I am giving it to my 27 yo daughter. Last year, I installed a 240 volt charging station in my garage for my wife's 2023 Model Y. I did upgrade my solar system, so most of her driving is free. The car uses more than the home. Being in California does help.

Should have talked that some people may qualify to up to $4k federal tax credit for used EVs under 25k that are at least 2 years old. Buyer need to be the second owner and make $75k or less of single or $150k or less if married.

Mijne (longrange 2019) with 140.000km also is brand New and still perfect. Degradation: arround 9 ~ 10%. But still around 67kwh usable battery. Is just perfect, interior and exterior, no maintenance till now, other than tires and windshield stuff. Would buy it again for sure.

I bought a similar ‘18 long range rwd, 80k, 19” wheels, fsd. Purchased direct from Tesla late last year for 25000. Battery is 301 at 100%. I think Tesla’s build quality was at a peak these first couple years of model 3 production. One observation is that Tesla doesn’t change the cabin air filter as reconditioning. Also check the radiator/ heat exchanger for debris. Changing / cleaning both will greatly help your AC.

As somebody who is about to sell my 5.5yr old model 3 performance with 60k miles on it, I’m super disappointed in the range reduction. It needs charging twice on road trips it used to do off a single charge. The range is down noticeably although otherwise it has aged okay. I’m happy to be selling and moving to a more luxurious vehicle. In 2019 it was the best production car in the world, but boy the competition has caught up.

I can't believe people buy NEW Teslas actually. The newer Model 3 and Model Y long range AWD version both see their range revised downward again just last week. And with Tesla recommended charging of no more than 80%, the stated range of Model Y LR AWD of 308 is reduced to 246 miles. That is not what we call a "long range" model. And if you get the Model Y LR AWD with the 20 inch rims and tires package, the range is further decreased to just 287 miles. and 80% recommended charging of that further reduce the usable range to 229 miles only. Forget it.

Enjoyed the video. In CA, charging at home is about $100/month average. Much better than my previous $500 plus monthly gas bill. I would recommend installing a Tesla wall charger and charge at the highest 48amp setting which charges much the car much faster.

Just purchased for $25k (no accidents and one owner ) the 2016 Model X 75D for our first electric vehicle. Going into it I knew we were going to take a hit on the range as it has 90k miles. This suv will be primarily used by my wife for commuting 15 miles each way to work and me doing errands around town and such. The range degradation is roughly 70 mile loss at 80% charge but we are ok with that. Hopefully in a few years we will upgrade to a more robust battery pack like the 100D if available. Just go into it with eye wide open and not expect it to go to the moon and back on a charge. The interior is impeccable as is the outside. Liking it so far. Honestly I'm waiting on solid state battery packs to come along. That will be a revolution.

I'm going to replace it with either a 2022 or newer LR M3 or M3P as soon as rates fall to where I prefer them (had a 5% rate on the S, can't stomach double that with a 720+ score). Until then I'll drive my 1995 Lexus LS400 and wince once a week when I pull into the gas station and slide under it to change the oil periodically! Lol.

I too have been weighing the pros and cons of buying a used Tesla. Google obviously watches everything that you do ( and they own KZbin), so I’ve been on both CarGurus and Tesla’s website comparing “ Apple to apples. I’m pretty set on spending more to buy a car from Tesla, as they give an extended warranty on every used car that they sell.And , they have all the accessories you’re going to want at the pickup location. Wow, your video popped up just when I needed it. I'm considering buying a 2018 Tesla 3 Dual Motor AWD Long Range. It's custom painted green and that's my primary worry. It is so hard to tell just how good the paint job is and whether that's going to be a problem down the road. Oh, only 34K miles, very clean black and white interior, and priced only a smidgen more than yours. That all said, I really love the color.

Your Tesla still has more range then my 2019 Hyundai Kona. Which had an original range of 256 Miles. I am still close to that . When my wife's ford is done we plan to buy a Tesla Y. That's great and all but I'd be curious to find out how much you are paying to insure this "cheap" Tesla. I currently drive a Honda Accord and am paying about $1,500 for insurance. Called my insurance company to get a quote on covering an old Model 3. Cost was more than double of what I was paying for the Accord and the rise in insurance actually would have ate the savings on not using gas. So no thanks.

Sorry to hear that. Every insurance provider I’ve gotten quotes from for cars over the years has been pretty drastically different. There are lots of situations and factors at play too such as location. My insurance was half of what I was quoted at other providers. So I’m all in with Statefarm. They’re taken great care of me

I just got a 19 Dual Motor LR. its pretty awesome paid 25k. 41k on the clock. FSD included. However..... I got it 1 month ago, and its loosing 1KWH of Nominal full pack per week. Thankfully Tesla has the warranty for 120k or 8 years. So when it fails It should be coved.

Really terrific, concise accounting. I had to laugh tho when you asked if we thought you spent 30 40 or 50,000 on a 6 year old RWDM3. I was going to guess something in the low twenties to under 20.

There was a time when 6 years or 100k miles and the car was ready for scrap. Now, I am buying cars with 70k-120k miles. Haven't pulled trigger on ev yet.

I have been looking at the used inventory that Tesla has because they will normally tack on a reasonable warranty on both the car and the battery. Something you won't get from a non-Tesla dealership. However, because of the terms & conditions with the current tax incentive, I would only benefit by getting a new Model 3. :-( Still, it is tempting and your video does a good job showing the good points of going with a used one. I already have a Level 2 in the garage for the PHEV that I own, so with either an old or new Tesla, I am all set in that department.

I bought a three-year-old 2021 with 30,000 miles on it. There was no way that you would know it was a used vehicle from Tesla. It was that well taken care of.

Smart Man! I bought a used 18,000 mile Tesla Long Range model Y with performance boost which is 100 hp extra and full self driving and it came with 20 inch wheels which look great but I rather have the 19 inch wheel for a smoother ride and more distance. I paid $35,000 in December 2023. Shortly after that we got these extremely low prices and low interest rates. I did get performance boost upgrade and full self driving for at least $20,000 less than if I bought a new one. That’s a huge discount from buying a brand new one with super low prices and discounts on interest! I probably could be the deal I got by $5000 just by shopping longer for the deal. I used to have the same model that you’re driving a long range 2018 model three. My daughter is driving it and I took it for a drive and it is so perfect and extremely fast even compared to my high horsepower model Y I like how the model Y sits up and you walk in and sit down and you have all the space in the back, but the big butt is I like the model three looks much much better and I like how you can carve the turns on mountain roads! Enjoy your new car. I know that my daughter‘s car hasn’t changed a bit since 2018. I kinda like the rear wheel drive by the way I like handles. Her car does not have a squeak or a rattle. It’s a solid as a brand new 2024 Tesla. Maybe two dB less quiet. Cheers, Daniel

My 2018 Model X P100D with 104,000 miles retains 91.2% of its original range. Also, we never never ever see anywhere close to the range that Tesla officially states. So, take it with a grain of salt. 3% supercharging annually and I regularly charge it up to only 80%, unless for long trips to only 95% and NEVER have I charged it to 100%. Still only retain 91.2% of its original capacity. I just hope that when the time for the battery going dead arrives, I won't have to pay a hefty fee for dumping it or recycling it. That would be a bummer.

P.s. charging it to 100% isn’t an issue, it staying at 100% for a long time is what strains the battery
