Great way I've found recently is to generate an image in midjourney and use that as a reference. I've also found really cheap generated backgrounds on the unity asset store and gamedev market as well that I've purchased for reference as well

Your work is absolutely stunning! You manage to make a scene detailed without it becoming muddied or too hard to read. The animation is so cute and cheerful but manages to keep the more sophisticated futuristic tune. I love the technique of using the subtle monotone for overall coloring then going back in for accents, I think it really helps with the readability of the art. I've been very inspired by your art and I'm going to see what I can do to borrow that technique!

Dude I really love this piece, I've actually started to do pieces in the Gameboy resolution (160 x 144? I'm guessing off the top of my head!) The video where you made that cool sci fi detective scene in Gameboy size, I forget the episode's name but it really inspired me! I made a cool Metroid style scene with claw marks and blood stains all over the walls and I'm really proud of it! Wish I could show you my work, but I don't really know how to share my pixel art or even resize it so it can be easier to show online (I've heard there's a certain way of doing it, but I can't really find any exact sources that show you!) Anyway thank you for helping me improve as a pixel artist and I'm gonna keep learning from you! Keep it up!
@BJGpixel4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! :D Oh yeah that was from the video about 1-bit pixel art; that's really cool that you've tried something in those parameters (that resolution is correct btw!); sounds really cool, I'd love to see what you made! I'm not sure what program you work in, but there's usually a setting that lets you adjust image size. The important thing is to scale it up by an exact multiple of the original canvas. So, for example, if your art is 160x144, you could scale it up to 800x720 - which would be exactly 5x (or 500%) its original size. In Photoshop I have to use the "Nearest Neighbors" resize setting (not the default "Bicubic Automatic"!) to maintain crisp pixels; but again, probably varies program to program.
@jonathanedgar99544 жыл бұрын
@@BJGpixel Ah I getcha! I've heard about being able to multiply the resolution but still a new concept for me so thanx for clearing that up for me!! I work in Aesprite (a really cool tool by the way, but I'm sure you know that even though you work in Photoshop lol too complicated for me) But Yeah I'll see if Aesprite uses that feature! After I'll post it on Twitter and see if I can send you a link! Thanks again dude!
@BJGpixel4 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanedgar9954 Ah perfect, Aseprite is the easiest for resizing (I have it as well, I just use Photoshop primarily!) - all you have to do is click 'File' --> 'Export...', choose a resize percentage (e.g., "500%") then click Export. It should automatically set the file type to '.png', which is the best file type for pixel art when posting online. Good luck! :D

how do you pick colors that work well I’ve used the basic stuff like using a color wheel but how do you make all the colors in the piece work together? Like the banana star grill piece you had 3 main colors and they all managed to work beautifully together so how do you pick those type of colors? Thank you!
@BJGpixel4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Part of it is colour harmony, such as when two colour hues are opposite to each other on the colour wheel (and other harmony variations). The other thing is having the right amount of contrast, which is why in this video I planned it all out in greyscale first - to make sure that the colours would be the right level of bright or dark. It definitely takes experimentation but you also start to develop faster selections and personal preferences this way. Hope that helps! :D
