nice instruction, I like how he breaks down every single position form beginning. A lot of instruction videos go too fast and too smooth for novice to catch the small in between movements.

Purely just the grips blew my mind. I'm a purple belt who plays some spider guard mainly for a setup to my favorite Triangle, but i never thought about most of the grips you said. 5:11 is my setup because they will stand up, then when they do i pull down on their sleeves and put feet in the hips, either take them up for helicopter Triangle or completely over to do mounted Triangle.

Summary: To get to spider guard… Legs on hips, c grip (turn wrist in our out depending) Shrimp to knee shield, shin on bicep One foot on one bicep nearer the elbow Vice Versa at an angle not on tailbone Fundamentals: When in spider guard, on the side closer to you, you can put you arm in so he can’t push into you and you can push/pull with both limbs Never play spider guard when they are standing up. Always at an angle e.g. instead of closed guard Can lead to arm bars, but to pull their arm in, yank with your elbow above you for more leverage Movement: Practice shrimping in order to move around in spider guard… Lift your hips up then shrimp out with your hips to change angle, it won’t work if you don’t raise your hips Treat their hips like the floor Changing positions: If you want positives like dela reva or closed guard, you can get their leg up to do so by kicking your foot up to the ceiling When one of their legs is up, you can do dela reva on the ground… tripod sweep? Can sweep from dela reva + one side spider by dropping them the side of the spider bit For the opposite side , you can use your other foot and push on their thigh so they loose balance If they put their leg up, butterfly sweep them to the other side by hooking that leg and clamp your elbow/arm down on the opposite side …Or you could pull the leg in using dela reva hook to pull them inwards

Don't allow them to posture up by either kicking their legs or hips back or transition to another guard.
