For as long as Crawford has been on this platform, I'm still surprised that more people haven't become subscribers. His content has always been great and since his move to the Rockies his production value is top notch.

Ok, I started laughing hard at the very beginning, I suddenly had the image in my head of the not so amazing Icelander having a saga about his habits of not getting much done, his consumption of food and a long, profound description of how far he got over the years while not bothering to bathe. Ivar the paint sniffer or something along those lines.... Ok, I'm sorry, I will shut up now, but I can't stop laughing!

ha ha ha the dogs as people thing. And as...scandalous?...as these insults are, it is still really interesting to hear and I'm glad you didn't shy away from discussing them. I really haven't thought much about medieval suits, let alone slander suits, so the video is intriguing.

Always good to hear Cnut get a mention. I live half a mile from the site of his decisive victory against Edmund Ironside in 1016. 4 years later Cnut returned and had a church built on the hill to honour the fallen. The first priest was Stigand, who later crowned Harold Godwinson and features on the Bayeaux Tapestry. In the 1950s a Danish prince, a descendant of Cnut, visited and to this day a Danish flag and model of a longship hangs inside the church. In 2016 we had a ceremony at the church to mark the battle's 1000th anniversary.

@@Mr.Patrick_Hung I usually listen on my phone through my earbuds while I drive. The post amplifier on my phone just isn't going to do the job. It would go along way to boost the audio in the editing program so folks like me can hear what is being said. Also I have some hearing damage that makes it hard to hear things.

You gave me a chuckle when trying to euphemize what was going on in that man-on-man carving, well done. Also, could the blue hat that was mentioned have something to do with seiðr and the negative/unmanly connotations thereof? I seem to remember you mentioning something about that art maybe being associated with specific garb, shall we say.

Yeah, I gotta say it again. Love what you're doing - no Ivory tower yet you are still meeting the sky and spreading knowledge from on high. No walls, No ceilings - my kind of tower. All the 'scumbag douchebag co-workers' and 'like goddamn Bolder' "a quick murder errand" just make it better IMO. At least *sometimes* this sort of tone is great for bringing the knowledge back down to earth. Wait "blue" hat? Don't we have problems with the precision of color words in old Norse? In my undergraduate studies I spent a long time looking at circumpolar bear cults and a sweet of words around this subject that I thought were very interesting. Unfortunately my linguistics professor is a specialist in Peru and Keepu (or however those knot things are called) so I got very little feedback about the actual particulars of my work. Pretty much just stalled out dreading applying to grad school but totally obsessed with my interests. I like transitions. I study the entire area - but one of my main passions is the Mesolithic transition in Northern Eurasia. I'm way deep into the archaeology and art history of it - trying to propose that there cold be a linguistic layer too. Love you're stuff - wish the world was saner and our institutions could interface somehow, I'd love to interface with you AND see you make the money you deserve. Alas, the world isn't at it's sanest at the moment.

Would it have made sense to people in those times that a Norwegian king might take Icelandic guards because they were outsiders rather than rivals, similar to the Varangian guard? I mean not as often or as easily as some of the sagas make it out to be, but something that at least was plausible?
