Outselling all other midsize luxury models in the US? Is that so? Wow. Take a look at the interior of any of the other midsize luxury sedans and then the Tesla - it looks like a golf cart inside by comparison. Frankly I'd sooner buy a lower line Lexus and 200 tanks of fuel for the same money.

That was a great video! Almost want me to buy a Kona!.. I just got my Ioniq because of Bjørns review a while ago. Hyundai should give you lots of more credit, because you are really giving them bonus for showing people what great cars Ioniq and Kona are. Nobody else is doing that! :-)

To be fair, Kona should be compared with Model 3 but even then there's still significant price difference. Hyundai has beaten Tesla in their own game in less than 3 years of production.

5 stops for Model X and 2 stops in Kona and still both cars arrived within 30 seconds of each other. This means the Model X driver will be more relaxed since he could take more breaks that the Kona driver. In my book Model X won because of faster charging speed and more widely available chargers.

You have to stretch your head over the display to have it unlocked. So in your book, the phone is better than others because it makes a person stretch his neck and he is more relaxed because of this? Bonus question: can you name the phone?

Yet the Tesla had the advantage of much faster charging... Know what it's like when you get to the gas station and all the pumps are taken up? You're going to have to wait five minutes to fill your tank. Now imagine all the charging stations being taken up. They could be there for HOURS.... :)

Most of Hyundai Ioniq and Kona produced is reserved for Hyundai home market (South Korea). Then they have a large backlog of cars already ordered in Europe to fulfill. My estimation for the US: not soon. Hyundai just makes too damn few of them.

WhaaaaT! It was super fun and amazing video, guys! Boths did it great this time! I had my money with the Model X, but yet to win it would have arrived with 30 ish km left which it's too low for a Tesla since they are not using GoM but displaying range based on typical consumption!. Yet again it was super fun to watch guys! A great summary video with lots of great shots, like when both passed each other and the meetups! It keep me up to the end in the edge of my seat!. I belive you have here, with this format, an excelent video franchise with tons of potencial for brands to use it and to get lots of extra followers! As you said at the end I'd love to see a Jag I-pace reviewed by Bjorn and also in the races!

If thats the case, it doesn't mean anything anyway. What is smart sophisticated engineering, but not followed by mass producing, good for ??? The answer is, big surprise, n o t h i n g . May be the only reason is to give their brand (and co-brand KIA) a good reputation bonus, technical competence..... (along with some compliance reasons). They know that customers are demanding these cars. But they don't care !!! I must repeat: THEY DONT CARE ! Playing around with peoples wishes and patience and producing Ioniq model for three years in a row in same low numbers. 3 thumbs up for very good engineering. 5 thumbs down for the way of treating people/customers.

Taz Keller Nissan Leaf have never been good at range, do not see the next gen Leaf being any better. Which is funny as the Korean's are doing a far better job at that. The 40kwh Leaf is just the old model with a new skin and slightly more powerful inverter, and a new dash, as well as some adaptive cruise control and lane keep.

that was a great video that shows that even with the current g2 cars that are coming we can drive long distances on electric as soon as the infrastructure is there because it is known fact that tesla owners drive very long distances very often using only their propietariy charging infrastructure.

Love these races! You've got to do some Tesla v Tesla ones to compare efficiency between the different models. I think what you're starting to point out is that efficiency is a really big factor with electric cars, potentially more important than range after a certain point. The kona may not get as much electricity as quickly as the X, but it can go just as far on the amount it can get in the same time. I can't wait for you to find a model 3 to play with too

Great race guys, keep up the good work :) I was sure the Tesla would win, by at least 10-15 min. Well, if Pawel's charging strategy was a bit different he might have won by 5 min I guess? Anyway, I'll accept it's a tie, but 5 stops vs 2 stops, thats a solid win for the Kona in my eyes. For the next race, maby you should add a rule for discount for rest energy? Let's say a car charges 1% every min, it arrives with 20% left, so you substract 20 min. Or end the race at Nebbenes (or other location with SC and QC) and stop the time when the car is charged back to a given SOC. That way you can play it safe at the end, and maby change the charge-strategy a little.

Very exciting video!Out of interest, I tried to do some numbers. The Tesla Model X charges twice as fast but does not consume twice as fast. I would have expected it to do better than the Kona. Still, the numbers seem to check out.Both cars drove roughly the same speed and arrived at rougly the same time. That means they spent roughly the same amounts of time charging.The Kona started out with 64kWh and finished with 6kWh. Bjørn charged 2x50 minutes at roughly 45kW, or 75kWh, for a total consumption of 75 + 56 = 131 kWh over 1000km. Seems to be in the ballpark.The Tesla started out with 79 kWh and finished with 11kWh. Pawel charged for 25,20,15,15,15 minutes at roughly 92kW, or 138kWh, for a total consumption of 138 + 68 = 206 kWh. Seems to check out as well.

Some mention has been made on line regarding 63KwH battery for Ioniq but not yet confirmed. The model 3 is pretty basic without upgrading at a hefty price and no U.K. date for deliveries yet. Most of our miles are Motorway between 60-70 m.p.h. Tried Tesla Model S and loved it. Too big for our parking slot and expensive for us here though. Thanks for your comment.

Excellent, Even though I like Tesla and it cars I would always buy the Hyundai - why? you can easily get parts if you keep your cars long term after the warranty. Tesla policy of not supplying spare parts or allow third party repairs is saying they are NOT environmentally friendly as they seem and is a huge red flag for prospective buyers. So .....until Tesla changes its ways, Hyundai is becoming the go to EV car company :-) Well Done Hyundai keep pluging away as we need more honest cost effective competitors that allow customers to truly own them.

Paul Mansfield Niro seems better size, longer more rear leg and cargo space, possibly new gen battery but same size at 64kwh, so should go similar distances. And hopefully much faster AC charging 22kw would be nice like the Renault Zoe has.

In the beginning Pawel charged all the way down to 56kW before he left the charger which was a huge mistake. He should have left every super charger when it dropped down to 87kW.

Both. Max charge rate for the Kona is 72 kw/h. But no rapid charger ever seems to give much more than 50 kw/h.
