Probably more costly than a Model 3 SR

The corrosion is called filiform corrosion. It's a common issue with Model S /X, I had it on my Model S P85+ as well. It's not a structural issue, though, so it's only a visual annoyance. You can grind it down and have it repainted if you want.

All those swirly scratches I think they might come from washing with not enough water and too much pressure? My pearl white (high mileage same vintage) looks almost new apart from stone chips. I wash with rain water too (no minerals).

Rain water? Isn’t it dirty the water from rain? 🤔

It's not exactly micro-scratches, but it's called swirl marks. They are the type of "shallow" scratches that go in all directions
@igeekone3 жыл бұрын
Swirl marks are micro scratches, just in a swirl pattern.
@harsimranbansal53553 жыл бұрын
@@igeekone they’re actually just a bunch of small straight lines. They’re not circular!

I think they are the same thing, a lot of micro scratches forms that pattern under a light cause there are a lot of micro scratches for every directions so it’s an optical effect of a lot of micro scratches. IMO

I appreciate the shop’s honesty on about what they can do and what cannot be done at their place. However, if that was my car intended to be kept for a longer time I probably would do something about the aluminum corrosion before it gets worse and make this handsome car look like a run-down Mercedes from the 70’s. I’m curious how the interior will improve. Still got my 2008 Volvo C70 with beige leather upholstery that looks like...from 2008. So maybe I can learn what can be done. 🤗

To what extend would the paint damages have been prevented with a ceramic coating? (and how long would a ceramic coating last?) - Or would you really need a wrap to keep the paint free from such damage for 300'000+ kilometers?
@bjornnyland3 жыл бұрын
Ceramic coating would help a little bit. But the best is to go for paint protection film like LLumar.

Good advice for headlights, use toothpaste. Most times toothpaste works just as fine as the more expensive headlight restoration kits.

Toothpaste is just very fine cutting compound for your teeth. A headlight restore kit isn't expensive and they include UV protectant to keep headlights shiny.
