In Texas (USA), an inspection on EVs consists of checking for burned out lights. That's it. No brake tests, no headlight test, etc. Gas cars go through a OBDII test and a in-parking-lot test drive. We have terrible cars on the road. I think it's the same way in Florida (USA): I drove my aunt's car and noticed the steering wasn't right. Checked the power steering fluid and it was completely dry. The car was 10 years old. No one checked the power steering fluid. Probably not brake fluid. Maybe not even the oil.

Cool here in Austria we have the same thing and it's called "Die §57a-Begutachtung" 😅. But since the official name is so long and cumbersome we simply always call it "Pickerl". Literal translation means a "sticker". Because after successful check, the technician will then put this official sticker on the windscreen. So the police can see it from outside if the car is still roadworthiness or not. And there the checks are 3 years, then 2 years and then every year afterwards (3-2-1).

That's not really correct. This was very eye-opening! It is amazing that EU requires such a detailed inspection. In the US, in my state (Massachusetts), we have required annual inspections but they are quite cursory. The most surprising thing for me was the brake testing. I have never heard of such a dynamic brake test device in the US, let alone seen one in use. It looks as if it is done on a dynamometer or similar device. I have to say that Millennium Falcon seems to have held up fairly well despite its high mileage, but of course i realize that you spent a lot of effort (and money) to repair it when you bought it back.
@ObserverDingue2 жыл бұрын
America does have brake tests for cars, you call them "highway wrecks" (which is a fail) 🤣 (Only joking!) Tests like the one here are in all Europen countries. My (automatic shift) van failed last year in the UK because the handbrake wasn't strong enough... really annoying. But you get it re-tested after fixing it and then pay only one fee, about £55. All our roads, and most police cars, now have automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and when the camera sees your plate the cops are alerted straight away if you have no road tax or vehicle test or insurance. Then you get pulled over or the police come looking for you. As more and more people are short of money to keep up with all of that the fines are a massive revenue for the government. If you have no insurance and you're stopped they tow your car on the spot and you have to make your own way home. Brutal but for the common good.
