@@bluegum6438you figure out it’s final attack stat, double it, then do algebra to find the attack stat if it wasn’t doubled.

​@@bluegum6438 on Bulbapedia go to Stat -> Determination of Stats -> Formula (Generation III onward) But here's how you can do it for Medicham as an example: Medicham's Base attack is 60 so we double that to 120. Every 1 Base stat is 2 stat points at level 100. However! Pure power doubles stats from IV's, EV's and the +5 that's inherently in the formula. Max for those is 63+31+5 = 99. That's 99 stat points aka 49,5 Base points. So 120+49,5 = 169,5 (For clarity: This is for non-HP stats. The +5 effectively works as a minimum stat for level 1 Pokemon. And again 1 Base point = 2 stat points. So when we get our max 99 from other sources we need to divide by 2 to get how many Base points would be necessary.)

But also Poliwrath has always been NU BL, but now you just won't likely see it in UU anymore which is a shame since I am pretty sure it was the highest ranking non UU mon on the UU viability rankings before the UU sleep ban. Now the honor of highest ranking non UU mon in UU is Raichu I think. Also I haven't looked in a while but I assume that Venusaur has fallen off p hard in UU because of the sleep ban.

The crazy thing with Gen 1 Machamp is, if Karate Chop were a Fighting move as it should have been to begin with (and became in gen 2) it probably would have been pretty solid. 50BP almost guaranteed crit.

It would help but it doesn't even come close to fix any of its primary issues. Too many things eat Fighting STAB with ease, 50 BP is still not too great even with the near-guaranteed crit, and it still has to contend with its low speed tier.

@@the_bookworm8281 With a STAB Karate Chop it 2HKOs anything weak to Fighting outside Rhydon (assuming both crit) really easily, which is a surprising amount of the metagame, as well as a lot of the more frail options like Jynx. Karate Chop into Hyper Beam is pretty likely to KO Alakazam as well. It would need a lot of paralysis support and it'd need to be kept healthy, which would be pretty hard and it'd probably be a gimmick, but it would be a genuine OU Pokemon for its lategame cleaning ability. Exeggutor would still shut it down hard, as well as Zapdos to an extent, so it certainly wouldn't be busted or anything. I just think it's a shame we didn't get that is all.

clefs were almost all wish protect teleport which was frankly quite bad into urshifu because you're put on the back foot switching a clef into wicked blow. You try to heal and they can kill you in 2 more, you try to moonblast and they can get a huge momentum swing by swtiching into a weak moonblast. It was a counter but you couldnt actually gain a certain advantage from switching in

As oppressive as the fighting and dragon types were in gen 5, I feel like they kinda earned it after the early generations, particularly RBY when dragon had no real moves and fighting had to rely on *submission* as their STAB. Looking back on it, it almost feels like a training montage to finally get to the top.

Urshifu Single-Strike was beyond broken when paired with Future Sight, Future Sight + Teleport traps forced you to switch into Wicked Blow + 120 BP psychic move, nothing liked doing that. Urshifu Rapid-Strike is very solid in a similar way but is more balanced because you can exploit Surging Strikes triple hit through contact punishes like Static, Rough Skin/Iron Barbs, Rocky Helmet too, not to mention there are so many good switch-ins to it's dual STAB like Slowbro, Toxapex, Tapu Fini, Tangrowth, etc.

Well it wasn't just Psychics, but any special attacker. Every pure Fighting type had a terrible Special stat. Poliwrath got carried by Amnesia but the Fighting typing still screwed it over more than it helped.

Mega Medicham is the literal definition of a nuke/KO button. its absolutely insane how neigh impossible it is to wall, you need some of the most niche of the niche walls just to stand a chance against it. Fortunately, you can offensively check it and scare it out with something that can take a priority and ko it see tornadus therian(until it misses hurricane)

One thing we really came to appreciate about Fighting in Gen 4-5 was resilience. No sand immune but the trifecta of SR resist, Pursuit Resist, U-Turn resist… I mean BKC mentioned how Fighting was able to abuse those things offensively themselves or on teammates, but the type’s resilience to all 3 of those progress-forcing mechanics was huge. And with Gen 4-5’s relative lack of good Flying STAB and the relatively poor coverage of Psychic and steel prominence- we’d joke that there was almost no cost to being a Fighting type, almost any non-fighting mono-type would be better if it had fighting added onto it. Think about Tornadus, Haxorus, Suicune, Azumarril, Jolteon, Alakazam, Politoed, Ninetales, Gorbyss, etc etc hard to argue that any of these mons wouldn’t be better in Gen 5 if they had added fighting type and fighting STAB moves. And you can make almost any Mon better by replacing one of its types with fighting. Lati@s replace Psychic, Gengar replace poison, Dragonite replace Flying, Volcarona replace Bug, etc etc.

Pheromosa had basically Deoxys-Attack tier defenses but actually having some okay resists like Ground and whatnot made that relatively negligible for getting it in, and once it did get in it was free to do whatever. And priority moves could get blocked by Psychic Terrain from Lele. Scarfers I suppose could check it but I think Pheromosa was a good Scarfer itself when it was around cause of how fast AND strong it was + STAB U-turn. In regards to Gen 9, so far the Fighters are crazy good, at least things like Iron Valiant, Great Tusk (which is basically the new Lando), and the banned Annihilape proving to be nuts as well. Annihilape does bring up Marshadow too, was actually allowed in OU when it first came out, but was kicked out almost immediately. To my knowledge its an unresisted type combo outside of Normal/Ghost-types, and added to that was Technician Shadow Sneak and a broken signature move that could steal stat boosts. It was a top mon in Ubers too. Same thing goes for Mega Lucario in Gens 6 and 7. Mega Luke was so dumb in very early Gen 6 OU. Adaptability Close Combat especially with SD in the picture? Good luck switching into that. Plus you have STAB Bullet Punch so Fairies can't switch in either.

gen1 machamp is even worse than you explained, because every normal type beats it. Submission 2HKOs nothing without getting 1HKOed back by your enemy + recoil damage. When you play Machamp you go for the Low kick flinch chance. So, getting Machamp out of the way, there is one fighting type which is generally better, and thats poliwrath, just because it has access to Amnesia and Hypnosis. Its sucks in OU too because its stats are poor, but it is a NUBL (last time I looked, poliwrath was the best not-UU-mon) pokemon and thats much more than Machamp has to offer.

Just a thought, like obviously set up moves are very strong. But how much of some mons viability depends on it? Nasty Plot, SD, DD are all already good And we got some mons that gained new or first viability through shell smash only (suspect move honestly) Like I'm personally still of the opinion that even with it's terrible defensive typing Yanmega for example could straight be very good is only it got a boosting move. Doesn't even have to be nasty plot. Calm mind or something wacky like growth could still make it reach necessary threshold. The movepool ain't bad on that mon, flying is a good offensive type as well. Bug not the greatest but it has some value and giga drain is real good ofc

If we are talking about boosting moves that dictate a Pokemon's viability: Quiver Dance. Literally every single one that gets access to it uses it more often than not (except for Ribombee since it competes with Sticky Webs for the role of "Pokemon defining move", and Pheromosa has such pitiful bulk that it's really hard to find opportunities to set it up so most of the time it's not worth it, but when it is used BOY is it terrifying), it's just THAT strong. I am glad that it's distribution is so limited honestly when you see all the rampage this move causes not just in OU in Volcarona but just ...... look at the depth of the lower tiers of how many garbage mons are actually threats almost solely because of this move

honestly Guts Machamp in gen 4 OU is actually pretty good if you build it right people always expect no gaurd a lotta the time. Payback, Close Combat/Cross Chop Bulk up Stone Edge/Ice Punch/Fire Punch are really nice to have catches a lot of switches off gaurd.

Gen 1 Machamp is like what if Luxray was the only real offensive threat against Chansey Like I guess that's a niche (and this comparison isn't perfect) but like. Not enough, don't even have team preview to instantly eq gengar on a switch And as I haven't played OU, I have more fun with vanilla runs and randbats I'm not even sure it 100% ohkoes chansey if it hits with max bulk. Like 80 bp is terrible and chansey eats many hyperbeams from full unless set up or a crit.

Cool thing in gen 8 fighter is buzzswole, which is the 1 true check to the menace that is weavile In gen 9, quaquaval is pretty good, it's either been fit into hyper offense as an all or nothing sweeper or as a very unique bulky win condition in balance, but that's not very common. There was also the 2 days Marshadow was in gen 7 OU, that thing made Blaziken look like sunskirt

I don't understand the comments about running pursuit on a fighting type. Why would a psychic type switch out against a fighting type? Pursuit works on Dark types because Psychic and Ghost doesn't hurt them, and the supplement the weak base power with STAB.

Fighting types break through opposing walls like Tangrowth and Gen 7 Toxapex, but fall to fast special attackers (mainly Alakazam, and literally any fast pokemon with access to Moonblast and/or Psychic). Pure Fighting is a bad single type because of that. Single Strike Urshifu loses its Psychic Weakness, but has a 4x weakness to Fairy. Plus the gen 4 change making the elemental punches physical (because they were special attacks prior to gen 4), just gives some good coverage against hyper-offensive mons, like Ice Punch to hit Salamence and Garchomp.
