That's how these people get off saying their crayon drawings are better than someone like ethan van scriver. Because they agree with the personal politics of people who make shit like Black AF, that alone elevates the material to gold standards. Its just good ol-fashioned tribalism.
@vlo48296 жыл бұрын
Most artistic forms have "rules" and frameworks within them. There are techniques, strokes, etc. that do provide indications of art quality and the skill of the artist. Also, art (and writing) are generally better when you DO have boundaries, and breaking the boundaries slightly is noteworthy and meaningful when it is clear you CAN and HAVE worked within them for a time. You are not "breaking rules" if you don't have the skills to follow them in the first place, and this is where most SJWs fall. Kwanzer said he "doesn't like symbolism" because he's not good at using it not because he's an expert at it and wanted to try his hand at a more direct approach. He's objectively bad at writing.

Jesus... that establishing shot. They're not even coloring inside the lines. I used to hate drawing backgrounds, too... but a little effort goes a long way. While working on my own comic, I had to trick myself into doing right by the visuals. Since I love drawing people the most, I had to consider buildings and rooms as others characters. You can tell me to draw Batman and I'm down, but tell me to draw Gotham, well... that turns into a chore. Then it hit me: Gotham City in Batman the animated series was another character with a gothic-Art-Deco costume. It's good to re-watch movies with good set designs like The Lord of the Rings, Pan's Labyrinth, The Great Gatsby, any Tim Burton film---to study the amount of thought and detail that goes into the world the characters inhabit. Those areas and environments are just as important as the protagonist because, if your knight has to slay a dragon, the inside of the lair needs to build tension. The best way to do that on paper is to make the structural patterns and passage menacing as fuck. It's a visual medium, like movies and video games, but comics provide an unlimited budget. At the very least, the artist on this book needs to put in more effort.

Also, in addition to studying how good artists draw hands, try this: 1. Whenever you have some time, draw your own non-dominant hand in all different kinds of lighting and poses, 2. After you finish each drawing, put it away and don't look at ANY of them AT ALL for at least a couple weeks. A month is even better. 3. Then take them out and study them, and you'll start to spot where you need to improve, and what you're doing best. 4. If you have friends or family who you can trust to tell the truth, ask them what they think, and compare their opinions to yours. Sometimes they can spot strengths we didn't know we have, and also weaknesses.

you know, why don't they at least get a little bit creative with this? Like focus on some characters without powers. For example, someone's parents were killed by someone with powers and now he's racist and kills people with powers despite having none using gun-fu or something; maybe he has a redemption arc brought on by his own observations and self-reflection and becomes an anti-hero. Maybe the leaders of MAN, or whatever the evil guys are called, drink the blood of those with powers in order to get powers themselves. Maybe the new drug turns out to be soylent black and they have "flashbacks" which are really visions of other people's lives. I wrote this in like 10 minutes why can't they come up with something better than "It's a drug that makes black people go crazy"

I have PTSD and so do many of my loved ones. I have never had visual flashbacks myself, but my friend who gets them told me that she's is mentally no longer in the room with us; she's back in the trauma. All we see is her completely freeze and go tense with panic in her eyes. She does seem to still vaguely know where she actually is during these flashbacks - she reacts to us with understanding of what we are doing. I've had emotional flashbacks and one tactile flashback; I definitely know where I am though it can take me a while before I realize I'm having a flashback specifically. Any actual breaks from reality we have are clinically called "dissociation." I know where I am and what is going on but my body is mostly numb and/or I don't recognize things around me nor my reflection as vividly as I know I should. I also have episodes of dissociative amnesia on occasion; I'm told that my eyes glaze over but otherwise you won't know that I'm essentially blacked out, and I'm usually expressing potentially dangerous rage but it, apparently, has me responding to what happened in that moment without any sign that I'm likely having a flashback. I also have mild psychosis when extremely stressed. I have other mental disorders too, so I don't know what symptom is to what disorder all the time. I apologize if I messed that up here. For reference; I have PTSD, BPD, Asperger's, ADHD, and ODD (I technically have more diagnosis but I really don't trust my doctors were correct - I've been in psychiatric care longer than many of them have worked in it that many of them just take what I tell them at face value, unfortunately). A lot of these have cross over symptoms (to the point that idk if I should even be diagnosed with all of them 🙄). That being said, technically, PTSD does have "breaks in reality" but the way they're describing is very rare and in VERY severe cases of it, as far as I'm aware.

Jesus.lmao I usually give a LOT of leeway to indie books. Especially on the art side because there’s a an amazing and storied history of *meh* comic artists who are fantastic writers drawing their own comics. Alan Moore, Bendis, 100s of indie artists. But this...is not that. Kwanza’s a trash writer and this is a hired artist. Well, “hired”. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re working on back end only. Which is super shitty for the artist. Everything about this is shitty for everyone involved.

Honestly the fact that this comic exists...and got published with that kind of art and story gives me hope that i can make a series and publish it when i'm an adult lol i'm 15 and i already make a bunch of stories and draw alot of original comics which i think are really good ,the fact that a 15 year old can draw better than these adults with an official published book that's kinda disappointing

You are definitely the realest person I've ever listened to review regressive media bullshit. Love your channel brother, keep up the great work!

This is just like what Evangelist films are to the medium of Cinema: no substance, no talent, no story, just a poorly structured set of preachings presenting itself as a legitimate creative work
