"Recent trends"?? Many classic spey flies have been hackled head-to-tail like that probably since the 19th century. And deer-hair-bodied salmon dry flies have been palmered that way since the advent of the bomber/bug style in the 1960's. [Personally, I only hackle tail-to-head ...but that's purely out of superstition.]

My toxic trait is that I would tie this on a 2/0 hook with estaz instead of chenille and use it to catch largemouth.
