Black and Decker AFS hack for too fast string feed

Hi glad you decided to post this. Idk why ur vid just popped up as I have been searching for weeks a way to slow down the line feed. I used tape hack to stop feed resulting in string jamming every 60 seconds. Recently I used 6 spools to do my 1/4 acre! I saw another video I was going to try, which involved not using the spool at all but did involved drilling another hole. Your hack was so easy I tried it first. And 🎉🎉🎉🎉 it worked! I used one piece as you showed & it slowed down line feed but not enough. So I played around with it & I found 4 layers does the trick for mine. I feel like I'm back to using a "normal" trimmer. Are you a rocket scientist?! I am forever indebted to you. THANK YOU 🙏 🙇‍♀️

I am so glad that this hack works for you. I almost gave up with this trimmer as it consumed string so fast. After the hack, it works properly in my liking.

Unfortunately I wish it was that simple. It is specific to only this electric B&D trimmer. I'm not sure what happened in manufacturing maybe they did it on purpose & didn't think it thru. I literally go thru 2 entire spools of string in one use. Edging fence on 1/2 acre property. Spool used to last weeks. I have researched & tried every hack out there. OGoing to try this. If it doesn't work going to try switching feeder head with ol' reliable battery B&D that I've had for over 12 yrs & still works. I got tired of buying batteries & bought this electric one. Should've listened to all the negative reviews. Must've paid for good reviews.

Thanks for your insight. Although not displayed in my video, I did have the spring attached to the cap. Otherwise, it wouldn't work at all. Cheer.

I had the same problem. After checking several you tube videos I see that there is an activator lever spring that I’m missing. That controls the line feed. Mine must have broke off.

this design is completely stupid and useless. Black and decker is widely known as bottom line junk in the trades ive been in.

IMHO, the design is clever. It is just the manufacturing process failed to yield consistent components and resulted in inconsistent performance. It is likely a cost benefit tradeoff that B&D made.
