Thanks for sharing this information! I've been wanting to photograph some of the local Black Bear population on Vancouver Island and didn't know exactly where to start.

Thanks for sharing that. I've read that bears do live in the mountains in places like Bryce Canyon but closer to home we just don't have any. I do plan on visit Glacier next summer though so maybe I'll see some and be able to put this information to work.

It might be brown bears in Glacier.

@@sassytbc7923 I just got back from Glacier a week ago. They have both brown bears and grizzlies. I did see a grizzly but it was very far away. And a friend of mine told me just yesterday that a brown bear was recorded on someone's trailcam on Cedar mountain about an hour or so from where I live!

Good sound information here Neil. This is pretty much the way I approach it also. As far as bear spray goes, I carry it also and have never had to use it, but I have had some folks tell me that some of the marketed sprays are pretty much ineffective and a few are pretty good. Do you have any inside info on this subject. Hope all is going well in your areas these days.🙂

I use Counter Assault. Hope I never have to use it either. But as Neil says if you talk as you walk, it’s unlikely to have an occurrence. Obviously bears can track you through smell easily. My closest encounters with the bear is usually greater than 50 yards. But again most time they run from you even if you are 100 yards away. Big lenses are the best route , and the lens he has on this video is likely 150-600 which is ideal
