I've seen the whole dance and Vidya has some rather nice moments in it. Of course Madhuri effortlessly took it. I know age is just a number, but it's amazing how graceful and precise she is dancing at 57 years old!! Typically she'd be cast as a garndma in bollywood movies at this stage, but here she is delivering an amazing dance number in a huge hit movie. Kudos to her!

I love that you are so honest and also I love that you always see the details of the dance; the hands, the steps, grace, expressions, everything ❤ And I totally agree with you! In the dance you can really appreciate the difference between a trained dancer and someone who’s not trained. I also noticed in almost the end with the turn that was out of synchrony, I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have another take where they were in sync And finally again I agree with you, this song with Madhuri alone uff would’ve been perfect! ❤❤❤❤

The story in the original was that Vidya was not a dancer, just a happy go lucky newlywed bride. She was either hallucinating she was in fact an ancient dancer or was possessed by a ghost who used to be a dancer for a king. So her less than perfect dance made perfect sense for the story then. And now they brought her back as a dancer opposite Madhuri Dixit, poor girl. Who could take Madhuri on, lol, no one? I wonder why the story demanded this dance-off and why it is marketed as one.

That's because the choreographer was a master named Saroj Khan. She gave both dancers choreography that suits their strength. Vidya was given a choreography that was Kathak steps forced to fit into Odissi mold. That's the choreographer's fault.

@siddhsense5085 nope. Absolutely not. If you have any understanding of Nautwari dance style you'll notice that since it is from East India it is supposed to smooth and curved in movements. Aishwarya was overdoing everything. There was no smoothness or rounded movements. Everything was sharp and amateur and she had a WEIRD smile face. She was energetic but like a child.

@siddhsense5085 no. Hard disagree. There is no such thing as "more perfect". Just bcoz someone can jump higher and overdo everything doesn't mean they're doing it right. It was a cultural showcase within a Bollywood movie. It's not a competition like the ones on TV. It's a film with a cultural tilt. Again, if you don't know Nautwari, don't comment.

If you watch Vidya dance in the first ami je tomar/mere dholna sun, you'll notice that they didn't show her feet work. I think this new version shows why, because as an actress, her facial expressions are excellent, but dancing is athletic and she doesn't have a real dancer's precision. They hid it before. The current director didn't play to her strengths the same way. I wonder why?

Yeah love Vidya but she at her best is an okay dancer. And I actually feel for her here because poor thing had to go head to head against Madhuri of all people, with no background dancers or creative camera work to distract from her performance. But my goodness, Madhuri moves like a dream. She might not be as athletic as she was in her prime but even now, no one can match her grace and precision. Everything else apart from Madhuri (and Shreya Ghoshal) was disappointing though. Maybe the full version looks better but the background here just looks so dull and lifeless and poorly rendered. It actually looks like they filmed on a green screen which seems like such an odd choice. Have you watched Vyjayanthimala's dance face off from Amrapali btw? You must if you haven't! It's everything Ami je tomar 3.0 wishes it was.

This is ehat happens when an incompetent choreographer creates choreography in Kathak and then tries to force it to fit into Odissi mold. The result is horrible. It woukd be the same if you came up with an Odissi choreography and tried to force Kathak on it. Disaster. Vidya did the best she could given her dumb choreographer.
