In about 1993 a chickadee couple nested in a small dead tree trunk next to my deck. I wrapped sheets if metal around the trunk to deter cats and when a hole formed opposite the door opening I repaired it with a thick sheet of clear plastic. I got to watch the whole process. It was a wonderful life experience.

Years ago, I built a few chickadee nest boxes from cedar, with 3/4" thick block of oak at the entrance like you had ( to keep any squirrells and larger birds from pecking the hole bigger), and hung a few under the eave of my garage, which had the East side close to some large pine trees, so it was a great habitat area. After a few weeks, I was rewarded with one building a nest and laying eggs. I didn't want to disturb them too much, but I did check once to find a chick in it ( I just felt it with my finger, I didn't take it down to look) and checking it later I didn't find any dead hatchlings in it, so I am guessing they had a healthy brood and all survived and got out. They are one of my favorite birds to see and hear, thanks for the video of the nest life.

I've already watched the full video alone, then again with my kids. Both times I cried when they fledged. Geez, I cried a 3rd time on this one. Beautiful work Lesley. 💕

The most beautiful video I have ever seen. God keep them safe. Chickadees so tiny and thankfully so tough. I adore them and the Wrens. Mama kept an immaculate nest.

My Carolina Chickadee pair also laid 6 eggs this year! Yes, all of them hatched and fledged. I'm not sure when either of the parents ever got any sleep! That little kiss at 0:44 was just perfect 😍

I had a successful nest of chickadees this year in the birdhouse on the side of our house and it was an absolute joy watching them every day. The nest fledged one day while I was at work so I didn't get to see them take off, but I've been spotting the little cuties in the trees around here once in awhile. Your video was such a blessing to see what all I missed. I'd love to rig up a camera in case they show up next year. Note: last year I had some house sparrows get into a chickadee birdhouse that had a 1 1/4" hole so this year I made the hole 1 1/8". Thanks for sharing all of your videos and expertise!

I put up a nest box just out from the house on a post this year and chickadee's nested in it. Never put any wood chips on bottom or any perch. Only looked in once to see if they were nesting after i seen a chickadee go in, there were 4 young. Was nice to see your video to show what happens in the nest.

Thank you for your videos. I just discovered the birds that built a nest in my bird house are Black-Capped Chickadees. First time I've ever experienced birds nesting in one of my bird houses. Your videos were a huge help to see what is going on in there.

This is amazing work, thank you for such detail! I love your channel and your coverage of birds! This is wonderful, as I have an evolving situation in the backyard...I have a bird box out back, it's been unoccupied for years, but about a month ago I had some black-capped chickadees scout the place as if buying a house... and moved in after some discussion. I think I now have just a series of days left before they leave the nest. Mom and Dad chickadee have been rapid firing food into the nest for many a day now, and the chicks sound strong. Thank you for the extremely well done video, it gives me a really solid reference point as to where I might be.

Loved this, thanks. I've been wanting to build a nest box for ages, maybe you can answer a couple questions... I'm wondering if the chickadees continue to use it as a home over winter? I'm also wondering what the behavior was inside the nest, when the female would fluff up, thrust at the wall, and make an unusual sound. Thanks, Nichol
