Yeah I immediately loved it and I think I can explain why it works. The track is kinda repetitive, you've got like an 8-bar cycle that basically just repeats but with more layers being added or taken away. Even half the lyrics are just the same repeated two lines. The drums are what break this repitition, they're the part adding the most novelty during the climax, so I think it's appropriate that they are mixed so loud. They also sound great. There may be more thematic resonances with the lyrical themes of the song. but I haven't got a clear understanding of what the song is about yet. It could be that the sorta tumbling quality of the drums represents like a landslide of shit that Henry or Isaac or someone is being buried by, much as the vocals are buried by the drums in the mix.

yeah that is so obviously made on purpose. every mix on this album is pretty much perfect, Snow Globes obviously stands out because it's the only truly intense part of the record which features a stand-out element, while pretty much all the other tracks have all the instruments working together in a cohesive way

I think your comparison of Isaac's delivery to David Byrne's is really interesting. I didn't think about it until you said it. Both have similar feelings, but I feel like their totally different and unique in that Byrne's anxiety is the type where you can't stay still, and Isaac's is the type where you don't want to move a muscle. I think the music that supports their lyrics and delivery really keys in to their slightly different styles. Good catch!

This is such a beautiful record, absolutely overflowing with emotion and character. I’m so heartbroken that Isaac is struggling to this degree, but I admire his bravery in looking after himself, and I sincerely hope that this decision to leave helps him find the inner peace he deserves. I love the mixing of the drums on snow globes. One of my favorite parts of the record. It’s devastatingly beautiful. The drums are the main part of this track as all the other instruments each repeat their own single riff throughout, so it makes sense for them to be as loud as they are. The emotion in them is palpable and to have them quieter would’ve done the song a disservice in my opinion

Think that's the first time I've seen the Least Favorite Track get a comment to clarify that yes, it's still very good. And I think the mixing on Snow Globes was very intentional. Like there's an intense snow storm blowing outside of a building the rest of the band is performing in, and you're struggling to listen in but sometimes it's just too much and things get drowned out by the snow. But then, sometimes the band is able to break through, and it makes this back and forth between the drums and everyone else. I love it personally, but I can see where your complaints lie. Just don't think it was a mistake, is all.

I love this album dearly already. I've been listening to it for a little over a month through the live compilations, but I'll always remember my first listen to the studio version - I started playing it twenty-three minutes after it dropped at work, starting at 11:23 at night and ending the next morning at 12:22. I'm on the overnight shift stocking shelves and I have to play my music out loud so I can hear my walkie-talkie, so it just kind of echoed around an otherwise empty store. Haldern, Mark's Theme, Bread Song, and the second half of Basketball Shoes especially felt surreal like that. The Place Where He Inserted The Blade ended at midnight, so it was almost like the lyrics were personally ushering me into the morning.

While I understand his thoughts on Snowglobes with the drums, I think the artistic choice to do so was good. With the buildup of all of Isaac's emotions and him finally letting them roll out, it's like an overwhelming thunderstorm overtaking the listener. Sort of smothering us in this overwhelming maelstrom of sound and drums. It's jumbled and confused much like his emotions are. For one of the first times this record he's really letting reality set in - and the emotions that come with that are overbearing much like the drums. Still an awesome review, and thank you so much for getting me on this album.
