I can't remember how many times I imagined myself, crying while witnessing this, with all these things in my head, things that seem so insignificant when this song begins. It's just... It gives me so much nostalgia, melancholy and feeling.

They are all still young and ants from up there is still gaining the band more and more fans each day and becoming an instant classic. I have a good feeling that we will see issac return to perform those songs at some point in the future. Wether that’s a year from now, five years, or twenty I’ll be there happy as shit.

The way Issac just sits there at the end looking so exhausted and distraught like he gave everything, his all in this performance breaks my heart. If you’ve been depressed or have anyone in your life who has depression you recognise that look. It’s a sad thing to see. All you wanna do is hug him. Depression isn’t being sad, it’s being so so tired of the sadness. Normal people are sad and then they can have a cry or a rant and eventually it’s ok. For people like us, like Issac no matter what you do every is exhausting and painful and you loose the passion you once had. Sometimes you have good days and the depression fluctuates day to day but it’s always there creeping from behind ready to take u like a wave. When the wave is there at first u can swim, u can keep it at bay but then a bigger wave comes along and engulfs you in water and now your fully submerged. All of a sudden it’s crying every day for no reason and then not crying for a month, it’s never eating and then binging till you feel sick, it’s never showering because you now have to prioritise your energy, it’s never sleeping and then sleeping for a day straight cos being alive is exhausting. It’s being alone but not wanting to be lonely. It’s staying in bed for a month without leaving the house. And if you don’t keep it in check, eventually it kills you. I’m glad Issac left, I think for his mental health it was the best thing for him. But be grateful we have songs like this one and the whole album of afut because Black Country new road has made music that’s so sad but so awfully beautiful. It hurts how beautiful basketball shoes is. He should be proud, they all should be, they’ve made something that could never be remade or repeated. Hope he’s doing better now

You describe it perfectly. What's even worse is when the people you love try to help, but they just don't understand what you're going through (and you hope they never have to go through that). It's the feeling of being alone even when you're surrounded by people that love you. Nothing seems to change, that emptiness follows you everywhere you go.

A loan is expected to be repaid, but very rarely will you ever pay back the exact value of the loan you received, that extra value is called interest. So he is singing about a person who has given him a generous loan in a figurative sense, potentially someone who gave him the best time of his life, but loan implies it came to an end, and Isaac now feels like he has lost a lot more than he gained from the time in the first place, hence the crippling interest

one thing i adore is how at about 7:40 in the song, each instrument plays a part to restate the motif of the song. and each instrument having its own part, transitioning from one to the next, as it builds up tension to when they finally come together at 8:18 . it’s stunning, tickles my brain and ears wonderfully. it’s a motif i could hum to myself so easily but the depth of it can only be heard in the song itself. and that brass, absolutely stunning. 🙏

The album mix is perfect in every way. Just listening to how the instruments sit in the mix is fucking incredible. The live mix, to me, is just a pretty good live mix. And she understands me Looks at me with wide eyes Like she's found again She's in soft focus all around me Oh, I can't see the football game On my dad's sofa We are still And we never look at our phones anymore Part II Oh I can't think of anything better Pick a hair off my sweater And drown in me Like boyfriend jeans Oh I haven't felt this way in like ever She is the convo, I am the weather And the clamp is a cracked smile cheek That tortures me And I haven't felt this way in like ever She is the convo, I'm the weather And the clamp is a cracked smile cheek And it tortures me Part III Oh, in my bedsheets, now wet Oh, of Charli I pray to forget In dreams, my face is still in your chest Oh, your generous loan to me Your crippling interest My bedsheets, now wet Of Charli I pray to forget In dreams, my face still in your chest Oh, your generous loan to me Your crippling interest Oh, in my bed sheets now are wet Of Charli I pray to forget In dreams, my face is still in your chest Oh your generous loan to me Your crippling interest

This is by far my fave BCNR track. The live version is so powerful! Shame Isaacs vocals at the finale were lost in the wall of sound from that hall! Still an epic live performance of an incredible track! Please come back Isaac, the world needs more of this...

The Absolute pinnacle. Thanks for giving this cold dead heart a latter flutter. I hope Issac is at peace whatever he's doing. His & the the Bands contribution will not go unnoted in the annals of modern rock. Float on boys & girls x

And what a feeling that must be, to dip out for your own sake and work in a bakery in peace, knowing you made a modern classic. We were all sad when Isaac left but when all's said and done, it's a fucking happy outcome.

I've only just discovered BCNR, black midi, Squid, etc and holy shit.. I truly have no words to articulate how moved I am. Basketball Shoes brings me to tears without fail every single time, particularly this version. I've discovered them during a period in my life when I need them more than ever, a really difficult and isolating time. Life changing, I am so grateful.. thank you guys, thank you Isaac ♥️

I saw them at Primavera, don't get me wrong it's still a great band. But Isaac brought soo much tension to the music that is now gone, or maybe they still need time to reinvent themselves. Or maybe it's just because I don't know the new songs. We just have to wait for the next release I guess. But at Primavera I imagined singing "The Place Where He Inserted The Blade" with the whole crowd there, that would have been something special.

Yea kinda agree about the new stuff. Really liked the first song, but it generally wasn't grabbing me like their earlier stuff. Bummed a bit but maybe they're still figuring it out.

I mean they all seem happier now at least and so is Isaac most likely. This is pretty exhausting music and emotionally draining.

I defy anyone, of any age, who's into any genre of music, not to be moved by that performance. Isaac Wood is (I guess, was) one of the best songwriters and frontmen of the last 30 years.
