Every musician in this is perfect … that back up singer lady - god she’s got the whole “melty background Steely Dan Sound.” Every one on perfect point. But (keyboard player here) … that old man on bass. Good Lord - man. He’s got that timing and anchoring everything. Focking respect man. You making that sound like it’s easy.

Paul Humprey's drumming is also hard to cover . Remember you are talking about the best session players in the buisness . Nonetheless the cover was pretty good.

Agreed. I might have liked a larger compliment of woodwinds in this arrangement. Would have filled out the coda. But, Yes! a good cover.

Nobody today is ever going to spend a million U.S. dollars on making a record. Imagine having the balls to go to ABC or MCA and tell them the session they just paid $50, 000 for is a wash-out and you're going to have to go back, jack, and do it again (see what I did there?).

I just saw KZbin video of Leonid and Friends doing "My Old School" and commented my astonishment that anybody could ever do a cover of anything this good. I would not have bet in a million years that a couple of days later I would see a Steely Dan cover that is even BETTER. If I ever see a Steely Dan cover more perfect than this one, I will eat my hat.

In 1977, Steely Dan's AJA album was studio magic, and from concept, to final production they coaxed, prodded, & squeezed: with finicky precision, some of the best performances out of the session musicians used on the project.
