After the Civil War, black cowboys played a key role in settling the West, and their heritage is honored by African American cowboys and rodeo riders today. "CBS This Morning: Saturday" co-host Michelle Miller talked with members of the Compton Cowboys, a Los Angeles group of riders who take to the streets of South Central on horseback; and with participants in the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, named for the famed African American Wild West Show star.

I am descended from many generations of cowboys. The Mexicans who learned from the Spanish taught all of us. You view on the white cowboy is blatantly false. The majority of cowboys were extremely poor, hard working men. The black cowboy was very rare in the west. They were more common in the south. The majority of white people were very poor. To have black people do the hard work was financially out of reach for the majority of Americans. What was more common was the white and black worked side by side. Before you spread untruths please check your facts.

@Robert Cavazos Mexicans were the first cowboys in the Americas. But really the Spanish were the first cowboys in America and created the Mexican cowboy. But Spanish horses and horsemanship was given to them by the Moors which were black Arabs. But recent findings have proven that Native Americans were already riding horses prior to the Spanish arriving. Probably why they were so good at it.

And if you know ur horse well enough you can tell when something is wrong. But the fact that it’s all about the color and not the love of the animal is what is sad. Lots of kids learn to be compassionate to other through learning how to treat animals. But yes some people are horrible when training animal in general

As a Mexican American with long generational ties with ranching, the few times I’ve seen here in California, African Americans ride horses, it has filled me with pride. I first learned of them as a young boy from my school teacher. He was a proud black cowboy from Texas and would dress like one during random days. Idk if he is still alive but Mr Walter Speed was a great man.

Mr Reeves wasn't a Ranger. He was a Deputy US Marshall based out of Arkansas (Judge Parker) for the Indian Territory (Oklahoma.) They usually went out alone sometimes with Tribal Police or with a cook if they had to bring in a string of crooks. Think Rooster Cogburn in the old True Grit movie. Robert Cavazos well you guys didn’t call them “cowboys” you called them cabellaro’s . The white would call the boys they sent to live with the cows and heard them. Cowboys! Them boys in the field that heard the cows. Them “cowboys was not a indearing term till western shoot em up movie’s fetishized it and guns! Then and only then was it cool to be a cowboy. That why Lone Ranger wore a black mask cause the original cowboys were black. Know HIStory . Every culture has people who ride horses and use them for transportation.

It's no such thing as a black cowboy . The word cowboy means its was intended for black cowboys only . The original lone ranger was Bass Reeves a black cowboy who captured 3000 outlaws. Black cowboys are all over the south. Mississippi has a lot . I've seen the Arabian/saharan horses there and they have the best horses I've seen in america . Many blacks prior to slavery were horse riders in africa, especially if they are of hausa /shuwa/benin /ethiopian bloodline. "Initially, white ranchers referred to white workers as "cow hands," with Black people in the same position referred to with the pejorative "cow boy." -wikipedia The movies and tv shows lied In a few years I will buy my 40 acre ranch . I always felt like I would be a fine cowboy , deep in my heart.

Im all in for the black cowboy, ive been seeing over the past months some of their trail rides (on youtube), it looks like alot of fun. However im all in, against black lives matter because ALL LIVES MATTER! Im a mexican american, and I see how hate along with the help of the media has stroked the flames of division, and for the most part it has worked on many people. In the military you get to meet people from different races and you quickly find there is good and bad in all of us. God (Jesus) has given all of us a chance to choose what road we want to take, at the end of both roads you will find the same thing, people of different nationalities. The difference will be the way you get to see and to live in eternity. Choose wisely the day is approaching quick but thru His mercy many will be given a second chance thru the tribulation. I believe thru that time many will realize it wasn't about hating each other. The choice all along was and is about choosing the one who told us to hate (satan) or the one that loves us all (JesusChrist)! I hope everyone reading this chooses wisely!

@D T I am an African American Airline Pilot. When i came out of the U.S Airforce in January 1990. I looked around & realized we are the only race without our own Airline transportation back to where we come from, the Beautiful Contenant of Africa? I immediately filed an application, received secured financial backing & four years later with help & higher (Complaint with HQ.) intervention was approved to hold a U.S Air Carrier Certificate to operate a U.S Airline. The issuing agency was furious, because they never issued An Air Carrier Certificate to a Black ownd and operated company before in the U.S.A They immediately set out to destroy my life with false charges against me.(If we cannot stop you professionaly? We will distroy you personally) They charged me with three C.F.R 67.403 (A)(1) Administrative Actions, which means DUI/DWI. They accused me of committing fraud for not reporting their fraud against me? I have never drink a beer or had a traffic stop for the likes in my life? It has taken years to clear. Once they realize i will fight for my rights, everyone involved walked away & would not touch my case. Finally after 16 year's as i am posting, i get my case in U.S. District Court in Washington DC. What i have come to realize in America is their are over 180k Airline Pilots. The industry is 98% White male? While Black people are 14% of the U.S population? We should be 26,000 of the 180,000? Instead we are only 800? In 1947 we had 942 Black Pilots? Called the Tuskegee Airman of which not even one them got a job with a US Airline? Just to give a little insight on what we are really dealing with? I want this truth be public because the closest entry points between Africa & America is Cape Verde Islands & The U.S Virgin Islands (2,700 miles apart) in the Atlantic? A short flight but Black people think we are worlds away when we are closer then we think. State of Texas in America is larger than every country in Europe? Every country in Europe has its own Airline?
