I really like mine!!! When all others fail or become discharged, I pull out my trusty BD, put in some Alkies and continue screwing!!!

Great review, Ty. It seems a typical Black & Decker, even the cheesy battery part. 130rpms is barely better than a Fisher-Price toy! For the low price, it would make a great white-elephant Christmas/Hanukkah gift.

Thanks for the teardown. For mine, the IN button is not making good contact. I was wondering how to fix it without taking it apart. I realise now I have been bending the wrong metal strip. I should be bending the inner strip outwards. Oh, I have mine since 2000's.

I have one of the first generation models, a rechargeable version. I used it a ton day in and day out for about five years as a cable guy (starting in 2006) mainly just for removing and re-installing faceplates and cable outlet mounts etc. it was amazing for reducing hand/wrist fatigue bs using manual screw drivers haha. I recently found it this past weekend and I cleaned off and lubed the insides and used deoxit on the switch assembly and 17 years later it still works after all these years lol. It’s definitely not for high torque applications but for light jobs it works great and I may pick up the Aja line version now that I use EBL rechargeable batteries. Love the review! Cheers from Houston 🍺

We had one of those at the desktop support service department where I used to work, we used it for removing/replacing screws on desktop PC's. IT worked fine for that, but it goes through batteries fairly quickly.

Using that would remind me of a guy showing up to work on a Honda spree scooter. 😂 There is some granny somewhere that uses it to tighten her light switch screws over and over until the plates crack.

Are you planning a review on the Quinn flare nut wrench set?

Very cool, id like to see you put it back together. I wanted to get one of those because it's so easy to just put batteries in and go instead of having to wait to charge it. I thought it wouldn't have much power.

I have one of these I don’t use it so much anymore but where it really came in handy was whenever I had to replace batteries in children’s toys it never had enough power to strip the plastic out when replacing the screw on the battery cover

lol I still have one of these. Cheesy or not, I still like it. I still have one of those orange screw ball screwdrivers as well. They are good for small jobs. I have more powerful and modern tools fro the real jobs.

Cool. I've had one in my kitchen tool drawer for several years. It is quite useful for small low torque stuff around the house. For example, you can go over all your kitchen cabinet hardware and snug up any loose screws/bolts. You can also let the tool twist as you are using it to reduce torque.

My dad had a rechargeable B&D screwdriver in the 80s. It was totally worthless.

I remember when they were New. In the 1980's But the question is? How much did Home Depot pay for Black, and Deckers, Color Scheme? Wow that thing brings back memories. That tool was the cats Meow, of its time, every kid wanted that tool. Energizer Batteries were a lot longer lasting in those days.

Are there any electric screwdrivers in the market that take removable 18650 batteries? I have some in the house which I use in other appliances and I don’t want to buy something that has a lithium battery for the very simple reason that I don’t know how often I will use it and over time the batteries will die making the product useless. So something with a removable battery will be a better option for me.

Howdy, Catman! LMAO at around 8:46. "Care less out this POS." Toon Funny! It's amazing, however, that these cheap tools can be so dang complex using cheap plastic parts and paper thin sheet metal. As you know, some of these cheap parts can be used for other projects. Nice review and tear-down! Drive on, Cowboy!!

The Bosch usb rechargeable version is way better. The dewalt 9v I think is by far the best cordless screwdriver.

I had the og to that black and deck in 1989 hated the fact that it died in in a few years did not know back then what I know now that that leaving on the wall mount charger kills the Nicad batteries and that screw driver had are not user I like idea you did with skil changing out the cheap plastic gears for metal it's going to make that screwdriver last for many years as long as you keep the lithium battery maintained and when the day does come if you do feel like finding a way to replace the lithium cell I know how to tap weld a new one in place with the metal gears is worth it as it is at the storage probably not

I have a rechargeable version. It's very under powered. For around the house, if I remember about it, it's ok.
