Funny that. Thanks for sharing that Mr John. I've actually made a few videos on BD headlamps (including the icon) and basically....they're all bad. I had a BD storm from about 12 years ago that was great, but i feel like their quality control has really diminished since then.

Good video addition to what a covered - as you saw in my G6WINGS BD video - same /similar issues. After about 12-15 years of using BD headlight - and even holding this latest beautifully designed lamp and re-chargeable battery - it’s a very impressive linage…. A+++ BD…. But if you or any explorer, hiker or mountaineer - would be very disappointed for how it works and doesn’t work. BD sent me a replacement as well - same exact results. A couple additional notes - the rechargeable does not have a very long life - and dwindles after relatively short time - and I have experienced fading to almost nothing in about 20-30 min. There are other quirky issues - like the BRIGHT FULL ON Green LED when charging!??? There is no reason no advantage for the GREEN LED to be on during charging. Hope some day BD understands all of this and can fix it. I use my older BD headlight - it’s not as bright - but it works much better and is more reliable and predictable. Eric / G6Wings

I have the same behavior with my new icon rechargeable battery pack. Does this cause your headlamp's light to get progressively dimmer (by itself) after a few minutes of use? This is what I'm experiencing, presumably because the headlamp isn't recognizing the packs full charge and is going into reserve mode. Interestingly, I have both the AA battery pack and the rechargeable battery and both will show only a partial charge on the headlamps light and will cause the light to dim by itself. Perhaps an issue with the headlamps circuit board (though not sure what's going on when you connect the extension cable as you show). Anyway, thanks for the video, saved me a bunch of time, and I can point to this when describing the issue for return.

Hi @shalanefrost8462 , sorry about the delayed response. Yes, the headlamp will start to dim after a few minutes of use at full brightness, even though there is plenty of charge left in the rechargeable battery pack. Presumably, they didn't account for the lower initial voltage of a rechargeable pack, and under use at full brightness, the voltage sags below the threshold set which is most likely for Alkaline batteries. It could also be a thermal threshold that is set to low, causing the lamp to drop power. Did you have any luck with BD Support? They basically just threw their hands up after seeing my video.

Good video Credit to g6wings also, I have not figured out how to use the saftey light with the headlight yet. It seems that the function is inverted headlight attached or not. Reg the lumen output 4xAA vs rechargeable batterypack. The AA are 1,5V x4 = max ~6V, rechargeable is I guess 2x LiIon in parallel (18650) max 4,2V. Not measure yet. The LED are driven by a PWM with the battery voltage are not the same level thereby the lumen output will not be the same either.
