In this video, I'll be walking you through how I installed the reverse lights switch on my Humvee, which was a part I purchased from Black Dog Customs.
If you haven't already, feel free to check out our video where we installed the reverse lights on our Humvee as part of making it street legal, or road worthy.
Thank you and enjoy!
(This video is not in any way sponsored by Black Dog Customs. The part was purchased by me.)

Great video A couple of questions … 1.) are you pulling 12v for the back up lights … looks like you are. If so, have you experienced an unequal battery drain as they say this happens. 2.) Would be nice to see how you’ve connected to your switch to allow both manual and automatic use of the backup lights. 3.) would also love to understand/see more on the use of the relay as I didn’t go that way as the voltage was nominal for my 12v accessories but deep down inside I believe one relay per accessory may be the better way to do things. Again … thx for a clear tutorial on the install.

Hey, Thank you so much! So happy you enjoyed the video :) 1.) Yes, it is 12v. No, never experienced an unequal battery drain. 2.) Unfortunately I can't take any pictures/video as we had a family situation and are unable to do so right now, but I can make a quick video showing this as soon as I get the opportunity to. :) But basically, both of the switches - the manual and reverse switch - are linked into the same power supply and module. 3.) Yes, I agree! As this video only shows the temporary setup for my 24v/12v system it is not the ideal way to connect my reverse lights. I will make a new video once I connect/install my permanent 12v/24v setup with a proper 24v to 12v converter. I believe it is better to step down (convert) the voltage from 24v to 12v and designate separate lines for each 12v accessory. This way I could avoid an unequal draw and prevent electrical problems. Hope it helps :) and hopefully I was able to explain well. Thanks again for watching & I appreciate your questions!

Depending on what generator/alternator you have, you can use the "rear" battery for 12v accessories(google is your friend). You need the 200amp alternator with dual voltage regulator. Also, as long as you're using switches that can handle the amperage, you don't need relays.LED lights draw very little amperage and operate on a wide range of voltages. That is why you will see most rated for 6-30 volts DC. Do some research on why and how you use them. In this case, it is just complicating the wiring and making for more potential failures with all of those connections. Lastly, DO NOT use regular grease on wiring connections. Use di electric grease and only use on the rubber boots to help with sealing out the elements. Not meant for the actual metal connections. Inspire, I enjoy your videos, they just needed some clarifications and specific information.

I liked it. I'm going to do the same plus add a backup camera.

What State are you in that a Humvee requires reverse lights?

If I'm not mistaken, all road vehicles do need reverse lights. It is actually a requirement for car manufactures in all of the U.S. But honestly who wouldn't want reverse lights, so people can be aware of a vehicle when backing up? But this is in reference to vehicles that would be on the roads. I'm sure if your Humvee is strictly for driving around your personal property and never on the roads, that would be another story.

Black Dog Customs has 2 different reverse light kits (three and four speed). Just have to order the correct one for your application.
