The quick release lever on the bandsaw is actually intended to be released each time you finish using it. It prevents stretching the blade when under constant tension! You typically only find this feature on much more expensive bandsaws! As far as the blade window, the back of the blade “gullets”, the cup shaped notches behind the teeth, should be on the centerline of the wheel for best performance at the cut. I just discovered this saw at HF, and I was dazzled by the tension release lever and roller bearing blade guides instead of those stupid blocks found on most cheap bandsaws! Hope it turns out to be a good unit!

I purchased one of those workbenches to hold a big screen television. Worked out fine. Then over a few weeks I'd be sitting there and all of a sudden I'd hear a loud snap, like an electrical short coming from the area of the bench. Checked my wiring and found nothing. A few more loud snaps and after looking for a short and not smelling it, I noticed several cracks in the bench top. They were walking cracks. My guess they compress the wood to make the top and it was releasing pent up forces. I drilled small holes where the cracks terminated and that solved the issue. So if you hear loud snaps check that cracking problem out. I also modded the bench with rollers at the bottom of the legs that each have a lever one can step upon to lift the bench up and down from ground contact, so I could move it around. The legs are really solid and the mod had no issues. Works perfectly fine.

Have several Bauer products. Impressed me. Not the top tier but not lousy and affordable. The one thing I did see, the lift gear for the table needs a guide shaft on the opposite side to keep it from wobbling when you crank it up or down.

You have a Morse taper on your drill press. The following from Wikipedia: A Morse taper (MT) is a tapered shank or spindle that's used to join two rotating machine components, such as tool holders to industrial machinery. Morse tapers are commonly found on lathes, drill presses, and other industrial machinery. 😎

Nice Score! I was given a bandsaw and press but in the Ryobi kind they work well for light fab work and projects. Use the Diablo blades if you can find the correct size

The correct way to set the blade is so the teeth on the blade is just off of the wheel …this way while it is running you aren’t straitening out the set in the teeth

It’s either a Jacob’s taper or more than likely a Morse taper. And all that’s needed for it to stay in place is to firmly slide it into place. And please do not put any loctite on the taper, because you’ll probably end up damaging the unit or at least the chuck in order to get it out. Tapers are widely used in order to accurately and effectively mate two machined surfaces together. They hold extremely well and also prevent turning. It’s due to the taper, the surface finish and extremely tight tolerances.

The only thing that scares me is the plastic pulleys on the drill press. I would think too much of a load on them might cause them to melt due to friction. Really interested in the band saw. I do a lot of metal work. In general I like Harbor Freight Tools. I remember buying their tools from a flyer you would get in the mail. Back then it was real crap stuff..

happy Thanksgiving, nice new tools, but I would not trust the plastic pullies in the drill press, don't trust anything made of plastic.
